Now there are a few big things left out here. For one, music is not incorporated, and as many of us now, that alone can take thousands of hours in the lifetime. But here’s the breakdown provided by chat. Please let me know what you think I left out!
* Time Spent at Sunday Meetings:
* Weekly: 3 hours
* Yearly: 3 hours * 52 weeks = 156 hours
* Over 80 years: 156 hours * 80 = 12,480 hours
* Time Spent on General Conference:
* Yearly: 12 hours
* Over 80 years: 12 hours * 80 = 960 hours
* Time Spent in Auxiliary Meetings:
* Monthly: 2 hours
* Yearly: 2 hours * 12 months = 24 hours
* Over 65 years: 24 hours * 65 = 1,560 hours
* Time Spent in Youth Calling:
* Monthly: 8 hours
* Yearly: 8 hours * 12 months = 96 hours
* Over 10 years: 96 hours * 10 = 960 hours
* Time Spent on Ministry Assignments:
* Monthly (excluding preparation): 5 hours
* Yearly: 5 hours * 12 months = 60 hours
* Over 65 years: 60 hours * 65 = 3,900 hours

Adding these up:
Total time spent over a lifetime:
12,480 + 960 + 1,560 + 960 + 3,900 + 3,120 + 17,472 + 3,120 + 14,600 + 2,080 + 3,120 = 62,412 hours
Now, let's translate this into years over the course of a lifetime:
62,412 hours / (24 hours/day * 365 days/year) ≈ 7.12 years
So, over the course of an 80-year lifespan, members of the LDS faith might spend approximately 7.12 years dedicated to various church-related activities.

Also not taking into account seminary 4 years in HS or as a teacher. My kids had early morning seminary before school every day. Scout or girls camp, primary day camp, youth conference, EFY, etc are each a whole week. Lots of extra activities!

Yup, and it's not surprising that they're starting to see a breakdown in the quality of things like youth programs and service because people literally struggle to find the time. The activity days leaders in our ward couldn't/wouldn't even remember my daughter's name or how to pronounce it. They didn't even try. But when you consider that one of them was heavily pregnant with other small children at home, and the other was a busy grandmother who was helping to raise her grandkids, you start to get a picture of two really overwhelmed women who needed help themselves; not more responsibilities piled on their plate by the church. There was also a girl in the group with extensive special needs, and while one of her parents usually attended activities with her, that is a massive undertaking for anyone, especially when the special needs child isn't the only one who needs care and attention. The sheer amount of time that members are asked to contribute to church is proving to be detrimental to many who are struggling financially, struggling with childcare needs, struggling with mental health, and more. I truly believe that the church really needs to change the structure of how it asks members for their time and resources because it really isn't providing a suitable framework to help people with practical life problems. It's mainly focused on providing platforms on which to promote church doctrine at every opportunity possible, which isn't what a lot of members need.
