This is one of the best business side videos I have ever seen. It lines up with how I started charging in the last year. Much appreciated!

I have been in this business for over 25 years. Your rates and philosophy are spot on! While some markets are different from others (My time in the Miami market - I could demand and pay more than I would in the current Kentucky market), the overall idea of charging for your time, expertise, professionalism and the product you produce is the name of the game. Never sell yourself short and never undervalue your service. Live streaming is a technical and time intensive demanding profession, and the good providers are subject matter experts in the field. Your rate should reflect that!

So I don't really do a lot of "gigs" but I do "produce" some shows for my own streaming network but this helps a lot on figuring out what to charge for equipment and staff. Thank you.

Definitely gonna save up for your course. My pricing is right in track with what you say in this video, but my clientele rate is drastically undershooting (I’m talking like 8 gigs a YEAR right now) I’ve been struggling to figure out how to grow this and I really want to make this my full time employment, and I hope the course will help me connect the missing pieces

As a person looking to venture into the live streaming business, this is very helpful.. I'm from South Africa though so I might have to tweak the rates/prices a bit

I’ve found that the pricing isn’t necessarily as important as it is to show the value in what you bring to the table. Clients will always pay more for results.

I’m used to just estimate a number randomly for equipment. I don’t do livestream, most of my clients want me to record their live event and upload later. With your numbers I can feel good I’m not doing it to low. Thank you!

Excellent! Another perspective that would be interesting might be methods of charging that factor in experience. Say a graduated scale as you gain experience and product 'depth'. Thank you for your videos!
@zephanmoses

All good thoughts. I think it's hard to determine a scale of rates only because it's all going to be relative to your ability to sell and not necessarily based on a measurement of experience. There are people less experienced than me selling higher priced options and people more experienced selling lower priced options.

@@zephanmoses Thanks for the quick reply! I have found in my experiences, as I'm an amateur in this realm, I tend to undervalue what I bring to the table, even at my level of expertise. Your video here has opened my eyes to other aspects of what I do that I have not yet considered. Additionally, understanding the basics of a professional pricing structure, as you've outlined, provides proper perspective. I look forward to more of your videos... thanks!

@@mikebaruffa5308 my best advice is just double your numbers next time you make a proposal. If you would’ve charged $400, charge $800 on the next new client. The only way you grow is if you start to bill more. The client isn’t going to do that for you.

This is extremely helpful! Thank you so much. I like the titles that are given to the positions as well. They sound like they're high paying tasks that are actually pretty easy to do esp with the available technology nowadays. Personally whenever I purchase any type of an investment item, I feel like that money is already a loss and anything I make off of it throughout any of the gigs that the items used is all profit, because it's just part of the tools, & experience that I'll need to do the job otherwise without having (whatever the items may be) I wouldn't be there to the job.

How long does it talk to recoup your equipment and startup cost at you rates?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 2 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say since I’ve been doing this professionally now for 12 years so my equipment has grown over time but typically I’ve never bought anything that I didn’t already have the money for. I’ve leveraged PayPal credit and business lines of credit to delay paying things off but I’ve always had the money in savings just in case. Canon typically offers 24 months 0% financing on camera gear so that helps too.

Just want to say I love this advice. I hate when I see KZbin channels recommend having a "large credit card" or to take out a loan. Don't set yourself up for failure before you even start. Get what you can and grow as you go. Making a living in production is hard enough without having to worry about that debt hanging over your head. Subscription secured based on this comment alone. Keep up the great work, the content is awesome!

What about insurance? A lot of sites require 5 million of coverage

In ten years I’ve never needed more than $2Mil in insurance. That’s included in my pricing I don’t charge an extra fee just to be insured. That’s just a cost of doing business that’s built into my prices.

how much would you charge to man the live stream of something, but none of the gear was yours? Still the responsibility, the technical skill, etc. - but you simply don't own any of the gear?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses Жыл бұрын
I usually try not to get out of bed for less than $1000-1200 per day whether I bring gear or not. I of course make exceptions for friends and when it’s something I really want to do. But I typically value my time at a minimum of that per day.

I liked your take on gear rental. I have been working for many years on a 30day payback model no matter what gear it is, but it did go a bit wrong with some things like lepal mic & receiver for example. It was way too low!

@@OmniTitan I think it’s really all based on a) knowing how to sell and show the value, b) the industry and niche you work with and c) the value that you can deliver. We took one client from 500 in person attendees for a conference to 19,000 virtual attendees. We can show that it’s possible to 10X or even 20X the return on investment with our livestreams so it’s very easy to charge a premium.

I'm surprised you bill by the hour. I don't know anyone that will work by the hour, I feel like even a asking for a half day rate would be extremely offensive to ask a talented tech to do. I also found that non-profits, aren't worth even talking to. As they are really just trying to get stuff for free, spending a day pricing out a gig is waste of time as they never even bother to respond. Doing stuff for cheap only hurts you, as you become the known as the people that do cheap crappy work, and it's a downward spiral after that. I also do $105 for a laptop as that's what rentex charges lol 😂
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t bill by the hour. I calculate by the hour and bill by a day rate. There’s a difference between how I calculate my price, what the client sees on the line item of the invoice and what the contractor gets paid. Regarding nonprofits there are plenty that have healthy budgets.
