Simple solution. Just get one streaming service for a couple of months, then swap out for another, and so on. Easy.

Im waiting on the day that people realize how good of a deal physical media is. I like streaming as much as the next person, but Id much rather buy say the entire The Office series to watch, rather than paying for a subscription to keep watching it over time. In the end itll be cheaper. Also when these services come inevitably remove your favorite movie or show from their roster, if you had it on physical, you wouldn’t have to worry about that or secret edits to add or remove lines or scenes.

I used to be a major physical only media only person. During Covid I switched to near full digital. Now, between prices going up and constant removal of favorite movies/shows I’ve slowly gone back to mostly physical . It’s just easier for me and possibly cheaper . I like streaming , but have cancelled all but my main couple.

This isn't a consumer problem. We realistically can't afford all the streaming services, so we'll have to pick a few. The streaming services that don't have enough subscriptions will shut down and license their content like they did in the past. Otherwise they will have to contend with piracy. Whatever their individual prices are, the current model isn't sustainable. So it is in fact their problem

@noahaster635

The issue is that too many streamers are in competition with the other. If there were only two major ones that have a great catalog, none of this would be a problem. It’s hurting the studios more than the consumer cause they know that it’s too flooded now and it’s not a sustainable business to be in.

I think the biggest problem with streaming services at the moment isn't the price. It's the fact that many are shedding content, sometimes their own exclusive content. And since much of it isn't available on physical media, there's some content you just can't watch anywhere anymore, especially on Disney+. If someone is subscribed to more streaming services than they are watching, it's their own fault. All the ones I know have a monthly option. So if I 'm not currently watching anything on a streaming service, I simply cancel my subscription until they have something really interesting again. That's not just good for my bank account. It's also good because this way I can motivate them to offer stuff I like.

I REALLY hope I'm wrong about this, but I think you are going to see the streamers shift more heavily to an advertising-based strategy until it looks like cable TV does now. If they can cram in 15 ad spots per hour, they will make a whole lot more money than most people would be willing to pay. They might continue to offer an ad-free tier, but it will be exorbitantly expensive...like $15/month for ad-supported and $40-50 for ad-free.
@jaysgamingcorner8539
@jaysgamingcorner8539 Жыл бұрын
I think your idea will eventually become reality: offer an ad-free tier for 3 or 4 times the price of the ad-supported tier. Lots of people won't like that it will be just like cable in the long run but that's coming.

Millennials and Gen Z'ers are too young to remember the price of CableTV in the early 2000s. $200/month was the norm, not the exception for those looking to have High Definition, a DVR ,and maybe one or two premium channels. The average Streaming customer is paying well below $100.

I'll never stop preaching this. Get all the streamers you want WITH ads. Based on the graphic in this video, you save almost $40/month doing ad tiers across the board. Let's be honest. We all have times where we have to pause anyway, whether it be to go to the bathroom or get food or whatever else. The ad breaks aren't generaly as long as on cable and sometimes, for movies, they'll lump like three minutes of ads at the start and then you get the entire movie ad-free. To me, it's more than worth it.

1) If you're going to complain about price, then get the cheapest Ad-supported price plan. That extra cost for no ads is your fault. 2) People would've had streaming services in addition to cable. That price would need to be added or subtracted to both sides like an algebra equation. 3) You don't need every streaming service every month. Rotate/churn the ones you don't watch as much. 4) Free Ad-supported apps. & a TV antenna can help hold you over till you re-subscribe to some apps. 5) Get the cheaper year plan for certain apps. 6) Many shows are free on apps. if you can wait a day or week. I pay less than $20 a month for 5 apps. Less than $30 if I didn't share. At some point you'd have to have multiple TVs on at the same time 24/7 to get your moneys worth for having EVERY app. Take note to which ones you watch the most/least and months specific shows/movies come out to know which months to subscribe to which services.

I have to say that my current price for ALL the streaming services that I want is still well under 50% of what my last cable TV package was...16 years ago - when I dropped it. However, unlike John, I have some self-control and do NOT subscribe to every single provider out there. I currently use Sling TV for my basic TV service (mostly to get ESPN), free streaming apps on Roku, and a digital antenna, which is obviously free. For premium service I have Max, Disney+, and Amazon Prime...that's it. I'll take streaming over cable any day of the week.

I disagree about Disney, it has a large library sure, but for adults without kids (if you exclude Marvel shows and Star Wars shows) it doesn't have much appeal. The thing is, if you buy 10 cars, those cars are yours. If you purchase 10 streaming services, those services only last X amount of time. The cars also have resale value. At this point, streaming is so expensive, that you might aswell buy the individual DVDs for your favorite shows and movies, and atleast those you get to keep. Another problem with streaming services, is that you get to pay quite a lot, to get a lot of content, that you don't watch. Only to pay equally as much to get that bit of content that you enjoy from multiple services. If you add up sports, the bill can easily reach 1k+ a year in subscription services, just because everything is so scattered. I'd rather be able to choose what content I get on my service, and pay the fair amount for it, instead of paying for multiple services for some content here and there.

6:11 to anyone who needs to reign in their budget learn from what a lot of premium cable customers have always done: subscribe to the services when your shows are there, and keep one always so you can have a steady service. But that’s what people did/do. Keep HBO until GOT is off the air. Then cancel. And get Showtime when Dexter comes and then cancel when it goes off air.
@garybrown5391

Streaming is cheaper than cable, but it is relative. If you had a $200 cable bill, you can get every streaming service on some tier. It can be more if you had a $100 cable bill and you get every streaming service. Going forward, price can be an issue when streamers raise prices.

Is there an easy way to pause and restart subscriptions?
@Sehlat
@Sehlat Жыл бұрын
What does pause even mean? You can cancel any streaming service at less than a month's notice if you've picked the right option and resubscribe in a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds. Netflix, for example, keeps your information, including your watch list, for 10 months (at least here in Germany). I have canceled and resubscribed to Netflix more times than I can remember, but I've never been away for 10 months. And even if that happened, I would still know what I want to watch.

@@OhGeeGanksta They can't keep aquiring each other and consolidating the content without either ditching a ton of other content, or raising prices dramatically. Consolidation actually works against these streaming companies, they loose a ton of money doing so as we are seeing.
@OhGeeGanksta
@OhGeeGanksta Жыл бұрын
@@stevemartegani But they will be able to raise prices on us when there are less streaming services for us to choose from. Also, I don't know how much this applies to streaming, but I'd like there'd be some aspect of economy of scale. A lot of the lesser performing shows will probably get dropped because they don't want to pay licensing for them. This is why I always knew we'd eventually go back to a cable-like service.

The problem is that so much of the content most want to watch (back catalogs included) is exclusive to certain streamers so if you cant afford the rising prices, you're screwed?. And since im mainly a movie guy I end up buying the movie digitally, which is inferior to the audio and visual quality of blu ray or 4k discs. Long story short I'm beginning to switch back to physical media. Most of it is so cheap now, that i can build up a catalog on top of my existing for much cheaper then all these subscriptions. in defense of oligopoly, studios collaborating, isn't that like them unionizing? if the the three groups are talent/labor, studios, and consumers, is it wrong for studios to unionize and have solidarity? to ensure their business sector is collectively profitable? even if that forces consumers to pay more? The only way out of this is if consumers take up the cost of paying talent more, if streaming services are rised in price, or they collaborate to fix prices and control costs like they did with network tv. if they reduce operating costs by merging. combining services, bundling services

Maybe streaming needs to cost more considering that Netflix is claiming record profits while Actors and Writers are being underpaid and working multiple jobs to avoid financial problems. Same for all these platforms. It's time we start recognizing what is a luxury and what is not. Having multiple streaming services is a luxury. Getting access to these huge libraries of new and classic content needs to be valued at what it's worth in order to pay everyone who made it possible for us to enjoy that content. Current prices are clearly not enough if the writers and actors can't get paid fairly. If the strikes end in favor of the creators who are striking, then I totally expect to see prices go up a little more. Because the companies don't want to pay those prices, so they will put it on customers. And maybe they should've just been doing this along anyway. I prefer the streaming model over cable. At least with Streaming I have control over what services I am paying for and control over the content that I get to watch. Cable would bundle services that you don't want in with services you do and would balloon the pricing that way. And you'd still get ads and you couldn't control the content - outside of some late-comer video-on-demand stuff that had terrible interfaces and was really slow.

If you have FOMO, streaming service bill will be expensive. with the need to be able to watch every hit streaming show or decently good series. As all these shows are spread across all the streaming channels services. For some the strategy could be every three to six months drop and rotate streaming services so you can watch and get caught up and then rotate again. Otherwise it be hard as well expensive to keep on top all these streaming shows. For me personally Netflix and Amazon is my only two permanent streaming. Amazon as I’m a Prime Customer as I regular have shipping from Amazon. Max is seasonal and they have great series. D+ I’d cancel if it wasn’t for my cousin on my account as I only watch new series and care less for any movie I’ve already seen. Apple Plus has good series, but only one new show at a time. So for me it’s Netflix, Amazon Prime, D+. Everything else is rotational streaming services.

This is why I only have two streaming services. Disney + and Max/HBO Max. Yes,I wish I could have everything but I can't afford it. So I picked the two that I would use the most. That has the specific content I know, I'll always come back to. Those are Disney + and Max. Even when there is a price increase ,and I expect another coming for Disney + by the end of the year, it doesn't hurt too bad because, I'm only paying yearly for just two services, The two that has the most stuff I like and the services that I would use the most. For content, from other streamers that I want two see but don't want to subscribe to because there isn't enough of what I would want at least enough to have a yearly,I have a work around that works for me. 1)For Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu,I wait until there is enough content built up(new shows and movies) and then buy a gift card to cover a month in half to two months and use the streamer's gift card to cover that period so I can watch all the new content I want during that period.. For example, late last December, I bought a Netflix gift card to cover a month in half and watched Stranger Things 4,Cobra Kai Season 5,Sandman Season 1,The Umbrella Academy Season 3,Wednesday Season 1 and Glass Onion. Boom, I only paid for a month and half, watched all I wanted that was on there currently and I probably won't have to pay for Netflix again for probably another year based off of what's coming out in the immediate. Did the same for Amazon Prime in March. Bought an Amazon Prime gift card to cover a month, watched the shows I wanted to be caught up on and done. Same deal for Hulu when necessary. The trade off of course is that since I wait for enough content to be built up, before buying the giftcard meaning I have to wait to see stuff but that's fine. Plus I'm a spoiler whore anyway. 2)I'm a physical media guy, so I get many of these shows anyway when/if they come out on Blu Ray or DVD. For example,I have every one of the Paramount + Star Trek shows on Blu Ray.I've never even subscribe to Paramount + since the Star Trek stuff is the only interest I have with them and it all hgets physical releases. I wait for that.Noth Picard Season 3 and Prodigy Season 1B episodes 11-20 both come out on Blu Ray in September.I have them pre-ordered(the steelbook release for Picard). So this system is working great for me. Pay for the yearly subscription for the services i use all the time which are Disney + and Max. Then for the rest, get a gift card to pay for a short period of time with one of the other streamers when enough content is built up for me.Plus get the physical releases that come out for things I really love.

Be careful with canceling because you might lose the deal you currently have. If you drop Netflix and sign back up you no longer will have access to the $9.99 plan.

I'm never subscribed to more than 2 at a time. There's way too many shows to watch to be subscribed to everything. You could never possibly consume all that especially if you have other hobbies and a life. Whenever I'm done with a show, I cancel and see what's buzzing on another streamer. Rinse and repeat.

Sorry, I dont remember anymore. I gave up on streaming platforms and only use piratebay. Its been at least two years. We reached the point where cable was A LOT cheaper. There should be a law or something that says "Companies are NOT allowed to raise their prices in a country that has not updated their minimum wage and the price adjusting of this product cannot surpass the % of minimum wage increase". Greedy mofos...
