Hi Lyn! I'm so glad we're finally entering the growing season after another long winter 😊 The cactus and succs overwintering the house got their first watering 10 days ago and those in the unheated porch will get a light watering this week. I've always taken your advice about giving light first waterings and that advice has served me very well ❤

I do the same. A light watering. It’s like you have to gradually introduce them to water again because they’ve been dry for months. I watered mine recently, probably a couple weeks ago and now they got loads of buds. I didn’t even fertilize. It really is true, a cold winters rest really does help them flower a lot. Some are flowering for the very first time. Ahhhh it’s so exciting!!! Grow season is so much FUN!!!!

Personally i like to water very infrequently in the winter but just check the weather to make sure ìts sunny and water can evaporate off quite quickly, i find the desert cacti appreciate it and it helps ease them in to spring growth without shrivelling up, funnily enough the only type of Succulent i have ever lost to this was a Aloe Glauca so i keep Aloes completely dry.

So glad you played my theme song at the end of your video. I've been missng it! I can't seem to get enough of it! The pots that I keep in the window furthest away from where I can reach without having to move a table full of plants, haven't had a drop of water since last November. They already look as though they've put on a little growth. I will water them first or second week of April. I use a few squirts from a turkey baster for their first drink. Then in a couple of weeks, they'll get a shot of 1/2 strength tomato food. The table full of cacti and succulents have gotten a little bit of water now and then when they look like they needed some. I keep this room about 64F. The jades and sansevieria have put on some growth even during the winter. Once it warms up a bit, all the cacti move out onto the enclosed sun porch to replace the begonias and geraniums who spend the warmer months outside. But, it'll be a while 'til that happens. Right now I'm busy starting tomatoes and peppers for the garden! This year I learned a new technique called soil blocking for starting seeds. Have you ever heard of it?

haha Mick :-D so happy you love the theme song at the end, thats fantastic your plants in the window have put on some new growth, and I know the feeling of not being able to reach them without having to move a table full of plants haha, I have tables all full of plants and all the plants in the windows i can't reach any of them unless I move out all the tables and its so time consuming to do, thankfully its only another month to go until I can move the majority of them back into the yard and polytunnel for spring and summer, its still so cold here in Ireland and temperatures way behind average for March, lots of rain and flooding and frost forecast for tonight, wow I haven't heard of the soil blocking for seed starting, I will have to find out more about that too, thanks so much Mick for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Thursday today XXXXX

Hi Linda :-D the good news is the brown at the bottom is due to natural corking as the cactus ages, the bottom part of the cactus will go brown and corky and its harmless, the only time brown at the bottom of the cactus is harmful is if the brown is soft and rotting, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX
