@jarednewburyvlog9973 no issues at all! The hitch installers routed the cabling up through the trunk, so heat wasn't an issue. Because of the height, I had to fix the chains from dragging a few times, but overall I was able to comfortably and (imo) safely drive the speed limit. 3/10 would not do again, but not because of the towing capability of the Veloster!

Any hail damage? My 2016 VT has the glass roof. And the hail here in Texas can be the size of baseballs and softballs. I even had a hail ball crash through my carport! Scares me every time hail is in the forecast.

I have some but not much. I had more hail damage over here in the springs. Which is about the same as Texas. I hate hail

The Veloster can literally do anything. I'm hoping to do this and haul my stuff from CO to Seattle. Think it would work with the automatic 2019 base model? And cross country? Lol

To be honest. Manual transmissions are better for towing. BUT since its flat ground, i wouldnt see a problem. Just push the gas pedal like there is an egg between your foot and pedal. This september im going to be towing again. Possibly with an extra 500 lbs and see how it does.

I kinda just guessed the weight of what I put in there. I filled it up and was hoping not to go over 2k lbs. Then I took it to a scale at a truck stop. Just know the trailer usually weighs about 850 to start.

I'm about to do an 800 mile drive towing a 4x8 trailer with my Fiesta ST. If your Veloster can handle the Rockies with a trailer, my Fiesta can totally handle the mostly flat Midwest 😂

@krimstix honestly, the website says no more than 1,000lbs. But I drove up five thousand feet with more. I would say no more than 2k lbs would be best

Did it get wet inside from the rain? I'm about to be hooking one up to my Pathfinder n travel the country with my dog and I'd like to know how careful I need to be with what I store in there. I know inside of it there's a sticker that says water resistant not waterproof

@FiyamanDnB no it didn't get wet. It was dry when I reached my destination. If worried I'd put a towel down at the bottom of the door just in case water comes in a little. But I would worry about it honestly

Mine is a 6 speed turbo. You can do it my friend. I know the 1st gen Velosters have a different hitch setup but, it will do the same none the less.

Where is Kleber Pass?

It is located on the eastern side of Crested Butte CO. and it comes out near Somerset CO. its 90% dirt and the Highest point is over 10k feet. I had to climb around 5k feet to reach the top.

I would say it's doable. Just need to route the exhasut away from the hitch. I would NOT suggest doing this in snowy conditions, though. No LSD makes my car drive horrible in snow.
