My first "smartphone" was in 2009. Since then I only changed it 3 times. My current phone will stay with me until 2022 or 2023. In 13/14 years I would only have spent less than $900 on phones (Without even selling any one of them). And you know what? I always got flagship phones that I'm super happy with. I have to disagree, I think 2 generations in smartphone market are still a huge gap. You're on the verge compared to new stuff around. I'm not saying it's a good thing, it's fact. Who knows about the future I always felt trough years we were not so far from the perfect device and looking back not so much I can spot many huge improvements. As someone who sells this stuff everyday I can vouch for the 10% stat. 60% of the reason is budget, yes, but 20% is whether the extra features are worth the extra price (which it isn't this year) and 20% has to do with the more expensive phones all being larger when half the people want smaller.

This difference between the EPA and Porsche testing was this. Porsche doesn't use a regeneration system on the brakes to recharge the battery like Tesla does. This means in the United states (where stop and go traffic is common) Unless you think carefully about letting your car coast to the next stop, it is quite a bit less efficient. When Porsche conducts it's own test, they understand how the car was made and let it coast to the next stop. The EPA's number is probably more accurate for more people.

It is time to go back to the $400 - $600 price points. The Samsung A series with plastic backs makes more sense than the $1,200 phones. The A phones lack the sex appeal of the flagships. It is more likely that phones will go the way of PC's where most PC's are commodities and there are specialized products for the high end. The amount of shilling for the Mac Pro by You Tubers who got loaners from Apple was shameless. The shilling for the $1,000 monitor stand was nauseating. OMG the monitor snapped on to the stand. Don't most people just wait a few months and get it half priced?

I could believe that figure if it's people buying smartphones outright and not opting for the carrier installment plans.

If I had my Iphone 5s for 4 years and then Upgraded, there's *absolutly* no reason to upgrade from an 8, X, Xr, Xs, XS max to the 11 series. It makes no sense, yet so many people do it.

because some people look at trends and think they have to have the latest item.i just use a phone and make sure it does what i need for a reasonable speed-but most cheaper phones a pretty decent thees days anyway

I picked up the iPhone 11 pro max and i am currently loving this phone. Btw keep in mind, alot of people are getting these flagship phones subsidized so they are likely technically paying less than $1000 and that could be the reason for the low figures? 🤔
