My first "smartphone" was in 2009. Since then I only changed it 3 times. My current phone will stay with me until 2022 or 2023. In 13/14 years I would only have spent less than $900 on phones (Without even selling any one of them). And you know what? I always got flagship phones that I'm super happy with. The first smartphone in 2009 was an iPhone 3GS and my current phone I bought this year is an LG V30. Be smart. Don't be a sheep.

I have to disagree, I think 2 generations in smartphone market are still a huge gap. You're on the verge compared to new stuff around. I'm not saying it's a good thing, it's fact. Who knows about the future I always felt trough years we were not so far from the perfect device and looking back not so much I can spot many huge improvements. Then I agree you can live a totally normal life with old devices, I stayed 2 years with an S7 cause I didn't want to upgrade to "large" phones and I was aware I had something kinda outdated. They move faaaaaast T_T

Hey, guys, I bought myself the Nexus 5 the moment it came out for about 170$(Best deal ever and no telecom contract to go with it), then I bought myself the note 4X for 147$(no telecom contract). Now 6y later I am buying a 9T Pro(329$) just because I believe I deserve it. Both of my old phones are working though. Some people spend 3000$ with a stupid deal for the same amount of time. Don't work and then throw your money at resellers and telcoms - please be wise! We are consumers - we need to push for the best tech at the lowest price, not help fraudsters like Apple thrive.

@@allenmobley4345 ---- It's the wrong way to look at it. People who buy an iPhone Pro every year in year 1 pay $1000 and the following year it's worth $750. It's extremely easy to resell. So the correct way to look at it is the iPhone costs $250 per year, which is a mere $20 a month. Conclusion: Who cares about $20 per month?

As someone who sells this stuff everyday I can vouch for the 10% stat. 60% of the reason is budget, yes, but 20% is whether the extra features are worth the extra price (which it isn't this year) and 20% has to do with the more expensive phones all being larger when half the people want smaller.

Deliberate marginal yearly advances in technology ensure that all these companies rip as many people off as possible multiple times throughout a year. I'm still using an s7 edge that I've dropped a thousand times and I can tell you it still works absolutely fine. As a phone - perfect with no problems. This difference between the EPA and Porsche testing was this. Porsche doesn't use a regeneration system on the brakes to recharge the battery like Tesla does. This means in the United states (where stop and go traffic is common) Unless you think carefully about letting your car coast to the next stop, it is quite a bit less efficient. When Porsche conducts it's own test, they understand how the car was made and let it coast to the next stop. The EPA's number is probably more accurate for more people.

My company phone, a Galaxy S10+...my private phone a Galaxy S7. When I do take pictures, the S10+ is a definite upgrade. Other than that...SG7 is an optimal size...in terms of convenience. I changed the battery on my own with the SG7. We just changed our company policy to limit new company phones to 900 or less. To accomodate IOS at 128GB. If it were not for IOS, we would've set the policy lower, probably to a max of 700.

It is time to go back to the $400 - $600 price points. The Samsung A series with plastic backs makes more sense than the $1,200 phones. The A phones lack the sex appeal of the flagships. It is more likely that phones will go the way of PC's where most PC's are commodities and there are specialized products for the high end. The amount of shilling for the Mac Pro by You Tubers who got loaners from Apple was shameless. The shilling for the $1,000 monitor stand was nauseating. OMG the monitor snapped on to the stand. Who cared?

Battery still great, camera more than good enough for what I need an iOS just works. I've been keeping my iphone SE alive since I bought it shortly after launch . At this point its a Frankensteins monster having gone through various screens batteries and just recently the touch I died. Now Im getting an iPhone 8 for $350 and Im quite happy with THAT upgrade cycle.

2-3 years ago I bought the OnePlus 3 just before the 3T launched. It was the first time a T device came out and I was so sad because it actually was another processor and I really liked the small boost of power you got from the 3T. Anyway I payed about 330$ and actually bought one for my friend as well. For a total of 360$ I got a cutting edge flagship performing device that was actually really good. This year I bought the OnePlus 7 Pro at launch and payed 890$. I don't like where this is going.... 🙄

My 18 month old $1000 phone completely exceeds my use requirements. It's great, but why would I replace it? It's great that they are making new tech, but what do they expect us to do with it? When my phone breaks, or something new happens, sure, I will get another nice phone. For now, I'm good.

we live in an era where markters are so good that they have convince us that we need a +1000$ smartphone, worst more they have convince us that this smartphones really worth that price. if we think about it, most of us dont need this flagships and thiere high specifications, i beleive that the majority of users will be happy with just 200-300$ because most people use smartphones just to go on social media, watch videos, take photos and ofcourse making calls and texting, nowdays you can find a cool handset at 200$ from xiaomi, oppo and samsung.

I do app development, for an app that pretty well pushes the limits of what mobile phones can do. AI/computer vision/3D tracking, etc. So it wouldn't be for everyone but a bleeding edge app needs a bleeding edge phone. Need more power, every generation of flagship I can't resist the extra power.

Would I rather have half price Netflix with ads versus current price/premium price Netflix without ads? My answer is hands down premium/current price all the way. I absolutely do not want ads! As a matter of fact, if Netflix introduces ads on my Netflix plan it will push me away from them all together

I didn't read the article but is the 1000$ a straight up figure or.. like everyone seems to do..get the lease thru the company on your bill monthly.... Would that still count? If so that number is surprisingly low

Held onto my last iPhone for better part of 3 years. The iPhone 11 Pro Max tickled my fancy and I pulled the trigger on that. For me the cost is not as important as the feature set and the future proofing.

I refuse to spend $1000 on a phone. That’s just ridiculous and unnecessary for my case use. Samsung lost me as a yearly upgrader of their latest flagship. I started feeling this way after the $800 mark was surpassed. Now I still upgrade yearly but I buy brand new 1 year old phones at deeply discounted prices. I purchased a new Note 9 a month ago from Bestbuy for $400. I can wait a year to save $600.

Nope. I got A50s and I underestimated exynos processor , I got it anyways for the clean software experience . I love it and it handles every task I throw at it just fine . One UI is the best thing for me and the processor is quite good for what I do (gaming, movies, every other stuff).

If I had my Iphone 5s for 4 years and then Upgraded, there's *absolutly* no reason to upgrade from an 8, X, Xr, Xs, XS max to the 11 series. It makes no sense, yet so many people do it.

I picked up the iPhone 11 pro max and i am currently loving this phone. Btw keep in mind, alot of people are getting these flagship phones subsidized so they are likely technically paying less than $1000 and that could be the reason for the low figures? 🤔
