@noonespecial77302 ай бұрын
@@Ashadar_Resouley Not really, while it would be nice if that's how it worked, the resort would get more profit from being based off of Wii Sports than Nintendo would. It'd kinda be like if you opened up a fast food place, called it McDonald's, and had the exact same menu and look as the real Mcdonald's, and then when you inevitably get sued or whatever by McDonald's your only defense is "Well I was basically giving them free advertising so really they should be paying me." If that was how it worked everything would be named after all the big companies and said companies would go bankrupt from all the people they'd have to pay.
@Ashadar_Resouley2 ай бұрын
@@noonespecial7730 🤦♂ First off what type of world do you live in where someone makes a fast food joint calls it mcdonald's and has the exact same menu and mcdonald's doesn't sue them for everything they have. Second most people who go to these types of places don't really give a damn about video games like at all really so if nintendo isn't paying them to put up all the branding then even if they didn't pay nintendo to use their branding it still wouldn't be worth the time effort or money to put it all up, most of the guest likely wont even know what an wii is unless they have kids, the only way the resort makes money off having the branding is if nintendo paid them to put it up other wise they're just losing money by putting it up and there wouldn't be a reason to put it up.
@noonespecial77302 ай бұрын
@@Ashadar_Resouley You're just repeating my point back to me? My point *is* that we are in the world where McDonalds would sue you. In your original comment, you said that they would/should be getting paid for "advertisement" when they were making a resort *specifically* based on the Nintendo game. (which would be the equivalent of saying the restaurant wouldn't get sued because they were "advertising" for McDonalds.) So either, 1: They wouldn't put any branding up, in which case this whole conversation is pointless. 2: They *do* put branding up and market it as a replica, in which case they would have to pay for the copyright from Nintendo, or 3: Nintendo builds it and therefore wouldn't have to pay for the copyright since they already own it, which would once again make this whole thing pointless. The original comment that sparked this discussion is based on the idea that it's option 2 and therefore they would be the ones paying for the copyright.

There are a few things which may slightly alter the cost of the resort if any 1. I always thought that Wuhu Island was its own country meaning they could potentially be using cheap labour, this seems unlikely that they would do that though. 2. Since they are likely not belonging to another country they don't _NEED_ to follow all the regulations that regard skydiving and being a pilot. The licences wouldn't be able to be used elsewhere though probably. 3. The dogs wander around and follow anyone who goes near them meaning they are free! I'm guessing they are owned by someone but they aren't ever put on leashes.

Then, of course, there's the whole ordeal of lodging. You're staying at a resort, so you gotta find a place to sleep! Renting a cabin starts at ~$120/night, and considering this is on a remote island, it's probably gonna run at least $60 more. BUT ALSO there's the option of staying at the 5-star Cocoba Hotel, a venture ranging from $500 to $2,000/NIGHT. With that in mind, a week trip to Wuhu Island would likely run you ~$30,000.

Hmmm, if the Swordplay Showdown is VR, then how do we know the ENTIRE OF WUHU ISLAND isn't VR. Think about it, it makes perfect sense, why would a resort make a guest go through pilot and skydiving training just to be able to do the activities, and why would you spend thousands of dollars on fireworks just for some people playing basketball. And also during the Island Flyover, there are balloons everywhere, which respawn on every attempt so they would have to buy SOOO many balloons and pay someone to actually set the balloons up which is very impractical. Someone else pointed out how dogfighting being a thing doesn't make much sense, but the whole resort being VR would perfectly explain that and the ludicrous amount of money required, turning it into only $50 per sport.

Alright, so I know this is a stupid rabbit trail, but I ran the numbers for how much this would cost per minute, assuming a weeklong stay. There's about 10k minutes in a week (10,080 to be exact) so we're looking at roughly $2.75 per minute. Lets assume you spend 1/3 of the time asleep for 8 hours of sleep a night and that comes out to about $4 a minute. Return trips would run you about $1.43 per minute. Positively insane cost, but then again, Disney charged about $2 per minute for their stupid star wars hotel experience (thanks Jenny Nicholson!) which was just a themed hotel with some minigames and guided experiences and part of a day in Star Wars Land. So if you have that much cash just lying around, it might be a pretty good bang for your buck!
