Thanks for the info! I have a very new, fledgling channel myself. I’m finding shoe review content is massively more popular than race recaps (at least smaller local and regional events) or workout deep dives. Love all this great information! It will be interesting to see how much CPM increases once mid-roll ads are turned back on. Also even though you made more $ in 2021 than 2022, ~1 less video each week that you needed to shoot and edit means that your hourly $ earned probably went up!

Good job! I agree that subs don't really matter. When I started my channel years ago with small subscribers, I was making more $ than many of the channels with a bigger subscribership. I calculated it to be about $3 per sub per year, and I produce really, really short videos (closer to "shorts"). This has probably changed since then. I stopped posting in 2018, but am now just getting back into it. It's a lot of fun, but a lot of work, too! Keep up the good work, and good luck this year with your marathons.

As a fellow creator, it's always super interesting to see how other channels are performing! Maybe I can clarify the issue of CPM vs RPM though.. My understanding is that CPM will vary based primarily on the audience demographics for a given video. Location, age groups, and other factors will determine what type of ad is shown, and some categories are worth way more than others. This will then affect your RPM, since you get a certain percentage of the price charged to advertisers for each view of an ad on your videos. RPM is determined by how long a video is, and in turn how many ads can be shown at a given CPM (putting aside for a moment other factors like memberships, etc.). Therefore, RPM isn't limited by CPM, and for longer videos can actually be much higher than your CPM, provided that you have mid-roll ads enabled. For my longer-form documentaries, for example, my RPM is up to double that of my CPM. Lastly, average percentage viewed is going to ultimately determine how many ads actually get shown for every view. So the challenge is to ensure your content is engaging enough for the audience to sit through mid-roll ads! Having said all of that: If you want to increase revenue, the name of the game is to focus on watch time and not simply views. A smaller quantity of longer, high-quality videos is likely to generate much more than a large quantity of short videos (although the latter may be better for channel growth in terms of subscriber count). And of course, you'll want to re-enable those mid-roll ads, but be sure to place them manually and consider designing ad breaks into your content during your edits.

Jeff Hi. Great content from you as well. How does it work if one is subscribed to KZbin to avoid ads? Thanks.
@JeffPelletier2 жыл бұрын
@@freeian2 creators do get a portion of revenue from KZbin premium subscribers. I’m not sure how exactly it compares to the amount you’d get from ads on a video, but it’s not an insignificant amount. So you’re still benefiting creators by paying for a premium subscription.

glad the algorithm brought this up, even though it's old. Your approach to... I guess aggressive transparency? Radical transparency? Whatever you call it, is why I subscribe and put a lot of trust in your reviews. As other commenters have mentioned, I wish more people would do that. It's awesome that you have great relationships with brands. It's off-putting when reviewers don't disclose the nature of their relationships so that viewers can understand how that might alter the written or spoken opinion. (My shoe rotation now heavily skews ASICS thanks in large part to your reviews.)

@kofuzi2 жыл бұрын
KZbin sends creators mixed signals. KZbin tells us that it is a platform for multiple types of content and multiple formats (vertical video shorts, long form videos, etc). But then the algorithm behaves in a very different way; it doesn't like it when one creator makes multiple types of content.
@FootDoctorZach2 жыл бұрын
This is really interesting in that you and I seem to have pretty similar numbers - your videos are averaging longer than mine but my CPM goes back and fourth with which sport I’m covering where you stay in one lane and seem to have more consistency with the metrics even though our end numbers are about even- interesting to know!

Thanks Kofuzi, I wish other content creators would share their views and revenue with viewers but I think they don't want strangers to know their income and they don't want to come off as bragging. You did a very good job of being completely transparent and I really appreciate you sharing one of your streams of income with us. You didn't have to do that and it is very much appreciated. Also it helps us non content creators get a better understanding of how the algorithm works and how much views and subs it takes to make money off of KZbin. It seems like it takes a lot more work and dedication than most of us are willing to put in.

Very interesting. Made me go and compare some of my stats. I did a video like this when got to 1000 subs and might be good to do it again heading towards 5000. Spoiler alert - if I am lucky I earn enough in a month to buy a pair of running shoes :) I do like it that you do videos on a variety of running related topics. If just did ones that might earn the most money would that really be motivating as a creator...
