My wife and I (29 and 27) also share a similar Corolla (2006 CE, 158k miles). I bought it from my dad for $4500 cash in 2018 with around 80,000 miles. It has worked like a dream, and has never left us stranded anywhere. I do all my own regular maintenance and oil changes. Funnily enough, the car is worth about the same as it was in 2018 🤣 I've updated the sound system, built my own subwoofer, and added sound dampening to the doors and rear deck to reduce vibration. We make good incomes ($250k+ combined) and could easily afford a nicer new vehicle. However, we decided at an early stage in our marriage that we valued financial security and freedom above having things society thinks we should have. We are approaching a $1M net worth at such an early age due to this and other frugal lifestyle habits. Meanwhile tons of people I know my age who have similar incomes are living paycheck to paycheck because of humongous lifestyle inflation. It's also SO nice not worrying about scratches and dents on my car from living in a city. Zero stress whatsoever.

I can relate to the not worrying about dents and scratches part. I need to get on your level and update my Corolla with a few creature comforts, that’s honestly all it’s missing. Thanks for sharing this, I’m not as far along as you are in my financial journey but it’s great to hear from someone who has gotten results with some of the actions I’m already taking.
@justthebrttrk5 күн бұрын
@ just upgrading your speakers and properly adding vibration dampening to them and your doors makes a huge difference! Next best upgrade is probably a new stereo and then a subwoofer. You can keep it under $500 easily for a super solid quality of life upgrade. I recommend crutchfield if you do it, they make up all of the wiring harnesses for you and include speaker brackets that work specifically with whatever car you have, it's awesome!

Brought a 2008 Toyota Highlander with 132,00 miles, after my 2009 Acura TL SHAWD took a dump and I refuse to spend $3,000 in repairs on a vehicle that already had around 250,000 miles, sold my Acura for $3,500 and used that money to buy my Highlander, the last time I owned a Toyota was in 1995 that's when I bought a used 1989 Camery LE, and I drove that Camery into the ground before getting rid of it in the early 2000s

Fellow '07 owner here too. Just broke 100k miles last month. My father gifted this vehicle to me as a present for graduating from college before he passed away, so it holds enormous sentimental value. I paid it off in 2010 while working 2 jobs while we were still reeling from the '08 recession, but haven't had a car payment since. Although now, it looks like I got it off a junkyard sale, it's been there for me through blizzards, some good times in my life, and some really bad times in my life. But it has always worked and gotten me safely from point A to point B. Thanks to not having a car payment, I have an 8 figure net worth now (the pandemic turned out to be a huge blessing for me financially and my car played an enormous role in getting me there). I'll be driving this thing til the wheels literally fall off.

Not long before my dad passed away he bought a brand new 2007 Corolla S. I inherited it and it was crazy cheap to maintain and great on gas. Unfortunately one day I was coming back from a trip out of state and a teen girl not familiar with driving in the rain slammed me into the barrier and totaled it. I still own that Corolla and it has 285,000 miles on it. The only part i’ve had to replace besides maintenance on it was a starter. Still original alternator, power steering pump, radiator etc. A naturally aspirated 4 cylinder Toyota engine (1fzee) is just a perfectly designed engine. It will go even further. My parents purchasing this car for me set me up to now be 33, own 4 vehicles and STILL don’t have a car payment. I won’t give it up

I’ve been carless for over a year now, so that I could save and figure out what to do. I’ve been on the verge of financing a cheaper car (honda civic or toyota corolla) but it’d still be a burden because I have student loans to worry about too. So, I’ve been dilly-dallying for a while. I’m honestly afraid of dealing with older cars because I have mostly bad experiences, but if I do enough research I just know i’ll be ok. You reminded me of this, so I think i’ll refresh my car search and just focus on a cheaper car for now until my debts are paid off so I don’t just go deeper into debt. I think this video was a sign that’s what I need to do right now. Thank you 🙏🏼
