Love Me Harder and One Last Time going down as classic all-time pop hits for me
@Charlie-jl3urАй бұрын
This album is a testament to what the pop music was like between 2004 - 2014 in terms of the way people consumed music. It’s not cohesive at all, it’s essentially a collection of potential radio hits of different genres with little to no narrative, singles heavy, primarily front loaded. But it truly works. I rank it up there with Gwen’s LAMB, Fergie’s The Dutchess, Gaga’s The Fame and Katy’s TD as the exemplar record of that kind. Not gonna lie, I somewhat miss the days when albums functioned more so as the collections of bops, hit singles and, obviously, a few fillers for a good measure lol. Nowadays in the streaming era when singles aren’t the main priority it’s completely different.
@EljohnMacaranasАй бұрын
I feel like the album meta has definitely taken away the whole need to have big singles and radio hits and individual moments. It’s great bc albums are a bit more cohesive and almost like movies, but bad in the sense that we do lose a lot.

It was where we actually learned her true style in music.

My everything being one of the more overlooked albums (not eras there is a difference) while yes it was engineered to be a pop machine among other pop dominated albums but the elements of duope (idk how to pronounce) sound in pop made it standout. I vividly remember as a preteen that no way she had an album cycle + had Sam and cat during that time, i liked how much contrast it had. While yes i agree Eternal sunshine, Thank U, Next and Sweetener (positions also ig) are her most prominent works from her recent cycles, My everything as an era was done right for her, any song from the album could've been a single, Be my baby is my fav with You dont know and love me harder for me they are so fun and energetic. This is the side of ariana we haven't seen since DW had much more mature edge to it, i low-key prefer my everything over dw cause how much i am nostalgic of this era, the VIDEOS, the PERFORMANCES. This was her Fearless moment, basically her big breakthrough. My everything you will always be a legend in your own right. 🥹💜🪑👠 Arianators will hate me but i can easily say its my too 3 ari albums with sweetener/thank u, next and eternal sunshine.
@EljohnMacaranasАй бұрын
As an era it was a smash (like the singles and performances and etc), but I agree the album was pretty overlooked. Like there’s a lot of core tracks and deep cuts that definitely didn’t get love the way tracks like that do bc of streaming and the whole “albums > singles” mentality we have nowadays.

Damn I can not believe it’s been 10 years it came out a month before I started my junior year of high school the whole era was big, not gonna lie I wasn’t a big fan of Ari bc of her diva drama and the Mariah Carey comparisons (I was a old soul weirdo who hated anything that was contemporary music expect for Taylor swift and Rihanna, forgive me 😂) but I did like some of the songs from the album, it’s my least favorite album from Ariana bc it lacked cohesion and felt like it was a album that was made to push her to hit making pop star level, taking away that unique sound I liked from her debut album, I also felt the era was rushed completely and that her label/management could’ve gotten more hits into the first half of 2015 like be my baby which was destined to be a hit single Favorite songs from my everything: Too close Be My baby Break free Love me harder My everything Bang bang One last time Break your heart right back Just a little bit of your heart

even though the album definitely was a breakthrough for her and yielded many hits and put her on the map in a big way. i feel like many of the songs were so childish and still lost between pandering to her child audience from nickelodeon and wanting to be a serious pop star. it kind of limited her to a certain brand that doesn’t have a super wild appeal and took her many years to actually cement herself as not just a hit maker but an icon.
