Parts of this campaign is in US Army Officer training-overextended supply lines and an ill equipped army. Besides the one nut case you mentioned, another military leader (Santa Anna) overextended both his army and supply lines and lost focus of this because of his desire to have alone time with a 13 year old girl.

Lovely video, but I got confused by the David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl painting that was being shown (at 8:19). It depicts the Swedish Royal family in the 1690s and I fail to see the connection to what is being discussed: Tsar Alexander’s modernisation to Russia. Can someone help me out? What has it to do with Karl XI of Sweden?

Napoleon's a git! It feels obvious to us now that any invasion of Russia would fail. I wonder how Napoleon viewed it at the time.

Hey Mike, great video but Napoleon didn’t proclame himself emperor, after his coup, he proclaimed himself first consul with two more at his side. After that, the people of France elected him as emperor.

It wasn't like looting was exclusive for Napoleon's army. Basically, full support of army on enemy territory was not possible until mass adoption of railroads. Also, Moscow were much more than "Old capital". Its economical and moral significance were enormous.
