I think this was the nicest NB vlog I've ever watched. It was like travelling back in time to the simpler days of my childhood (the 70's) Barefoot on sun warmed ground, creating something and feeling a buzz of excitement because your efforts paid off (I actually shed a tear when you hugged after hanging out the washing!) and neighbours randomly dropping in for tea and cake. It's as though my entire being let out a huge sigh and relaxed! (And I'm pretty chill to begin with 🤪) I'm over the moon for you both. Yay for proper bathroom! Good job getting it all sorted. Just make sure the lead is rated for high wattage devices, you don't want an accidental fire under your bed. I use the coconut coir for houseplants, it's great for creating your own plant specific mixes. The Coco&Coir brand is a bit more expensive than others that work just as well. Tips for mixing: - line the box with a thick plastic bag so you keep the box clean and store the excess without making a mess - after you place the brick in the box, pour a kettle of hot water on it to speed up the rehydration - you can add more water than necessary, it also speeds up rehydration. Just grab handfuls and squeeze the excess water out. You can also use a sieve but it's more messy. - make a scoop from a milk bottle, very useful! Keep a spare lid and make some holes in it so you can use it as a sieve when rehydrating Banana bread tips: - the more ripe the bananas, the better the banana bread! The mushier they are the sweeter they will be - the starch in them gets converted into sugar as they ripen. - you can replace the butter with 125 ml oil - rapeseed or sunflower, not olive, you want something that doesn't add own flavour. Coconut oil works too and adds a lovely flavour that works well with bananas but is quite expensive - a mix of brown and white sugar, or pure brown sugar instead of honey and white sugar - if you only have plain flour, add 1 teaspoon baking powder + 1 teaspoon of bicarb - add a splash of rum or Malibu for extra flavour - I usually mix chopped walnuts and dates mixed into the dough instead of chocolate Bonus tip: instead of throwing out the banana skins, put them in the watering can/jug/big bottle and let soak at least overnight, ideally at least 2-3 days and water your plants with that, they'll love it.

I loved how this video started with the lovely textures of the towpath. the flowers, the greenery, the sky and especially the light reflecting off the water onto the bricks of the bridge. Really lovely camera work. I was surprised to see Josh hold up a block of what looks like coconut core/coir. I buy blocks like the one he was holding as a soil additive to help loosen and hold moisture in my garden. I plop mine into a big basin of water and let it soak until it falls apart. It does take a bit of water to get it to fall apart. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next week. Safe travels.

Heres a tip for you. I've had a Compoost toilet for a couple of years. I've abandoned the coir and all that hassle. I use a non stir bucket and a compostable bag as a liner. The paper acts as a drying material. Just lift it out and put in a new one like any other waste bin. No smells at all. Well, occasionally a wiff of urine but a quick spray stops that. No smells from the bucket.

Well done on the compoost. A couple of tips , advise ladies to open the vanity, even for a wee , use a rubber doorstop down the left hand top of the bucket and fold the bottle handle down between the bottle and bucket. These things all help keep the bucket steady and stop it rocking off its axis and jamming the vanity door. After much experimenting I find an 80% wooden cat litter mixed with 20% garden peat is really great. 50 litre Beast bags from Tesco are perfect for emptying the bucket.😊

Great to see the bathroom well done 👍. I use the same coconut husk in mine top tip break it up with a chisel and hammer and use boiling water 👍👍 I use a brick and a half with approx 1.5 ltrs of water per brick. You will be experimenting for a while to get the right balance but they are a game changer. 😁😁👍 For the cleaning process it’s disposable gloves on music on and get involved. Great watching you guys. You where refuelled by Ed and Karen friends of mine he was in the Army with me.

Hi Ula and Josh :-) Years ago, I had a similar problem with my washing machine: having a slanted ceiling, I couldn't easily open the top door, but then I found out that the plastic part under the door, the one where you put detergent and softer, can usually be easily removed (normally it is just snapped-on, not screwed) and soap and softener can be simply poured inside the drum. In this way, you'll gain a useful 10 cm of free space to better load the washer. The only thing you have to remember is to never use the pre-wash setting, otherwise soap and softener will be drained before the washing even starts :-) PS: you probably already use it, but vinegard is a fantastic substitute for softener: good for the planet and also for the mechanical parts of the washing machine!

A washing machine on a narrow boat…lucky lady….a compost toilet….no shit folks….compost toilet…we’ve got one in our caravan and if I could take it in doors…no I wouldn’t…I like my modern convenience…sorry guys…I’m too old now to change and to be honest I hate it. OK now you have me looking for a composting loo for the caravan, it’s such a horrible job emptying the toilet cartridge. You pretty much have a fully functioning narrowboat now, all your thick winter clothes can be packed away, maybe under the bed or at mum and dads. So excited for you guys. 💕

Tip for next time. If you put the butter in the sun with a metal bowl over the top it will be soft in about 5-10 mins.
