Why don’t you fit a “blown air”diesel heater in the boat. Believe me, they’re worth their weight in gold during winter. They’re simple to install, cheap to run (red diesel) but above all, convenient. No chopping or storing wood, no waiting for your wood burner to warm up and the ability to turn it on or off remotely or by programming. They are very inexpensive, reliable and simple to fit. Another great video, thanks.

Aw wow, that drone looked fantastic, I love modern tech gadgets. So... about the diesel. Was that red diesel you bought? I dunno if you know, red diesel is usually used by farmers, it's cheaper than normal diesel because it is taxed by a much lower rate. The reason it's red is simply because they put a red die in it. This is to stop - for example - HGV vehicles using it. Spot checks are easily made by the HM Customs and Excise department to check what kind of fuel you're using and you have paid the right amount of tax. I am so looking forward to you going through Bradford-on Avon, it's one of my favourite towns, such a lovely place. Keep up the good work guys, I love your vids - 5⭐'s

Hi Ula and Josh, nice to have you back. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Both. Josh,as a ex HGV Driver you should know that Diesel doesn’t last forever and you will need to be careful about Diesel Bugs in your Tank especially after 3 months and not much movement of the fuel within the tank ( I take it you don’t have a stirrer within it ? ). When you first said about a Diesel Heater I was thinking along the lines of Webasco type, your Diesel heater reminds me of the old paraffin heaters from Years ago ( they were portable ) but they looked the same ( obviously they didn’t heat the water ). The old Rayburn was the kiddie for that and cooking. Now we have to start thinking about the Elephant in the Room. Burning Wood is soon going to be a thing of the past,as is having Diesel engines, the Canals and Rivers Trust has received a lot of complaints about Narrowboats contaminating the Canals and Rivers with Oil and Diesel ( mainly due to lack of maintenance ) but they have also received complaints from people who are living in Homes and are not allowed to Burn Wood and Coal because of the Smoke Laws regarding Fuels ( in some areas they can only use special fuel ( coalite but that’s mega expensive so many narrowboat owners won’t pay for it ) obviously the home owners find it discriminating that they are not allowed to use solid fuel whereas Narrowboats within their area are ok to use it !!. CRT are contemplating bringing in a Ban on all Wood Burners ( only permitted fuel can be used )and eventually a Ban on Diesel Engines and Diesel Heaters. It’s probably going to be a few years before the Ban but I genuinely think it is the time to contemplate the idea of going all electric on the Narrowboats for propulsion and Heating etc ( basically get saving up or start making enquiries with Electric Engine Suppliers and Solar panel Manufacturers etc 🤷‍♂️). A lot of Manufacturers of New Boats are already talking about Building " Off Grid " Boats with a new water catchment Guttering system and filters and UV light Bacteria killing lamps for the system because it is easier to build them than to convert ( the pipes and different design radiators that don’t take up much room etc ). Personally I’m not that keen on EV because I feel at the moment it is damaging the environment more than it is saving it and there is the human cost ( the mines in some countries pay workers a $ a day in the most atrocious conditions !). And something nobody really thinks about is how much of each mineral is needed in Tons and how do they get these Thousands of Tonnes of Material ( They use Bulldozers and Mining Equipment that is all Run on Diesel ?? ) so sort of counterproductive really isn’t it ??. The Batteries only last for 10 years and then they can’t be fully recycled just yet ? Most of the old batteries ends up as ' Black Waste ' and ends up having to be Stored in large underground storage facilities, until they can develop a way to recycle it completely ?!!. Like I said I don’t think EV is the answer just yet and it makes me wonder why it is being pushed so hard ? Someone is making a lot of money out of it and I think they are doing the same as what they did with Petrol and Diesel back in the beginning when that was supposed to be the " Wonder Fuel " and the answer to everything. Good luck to them though getting places like China and the US and India and Russia and Africa into being more environmentally friendly !. People forget that with the way the World is currently many of the poorest people in the World have only just begun to have enough money to buy Coal to heat their homes and cook and now this Cop25 are saying these same people really need to think about Electric energy from solar etc rather than using fossil fuels ?. Where do people think all the second hand cars are going that fail the emissions of Euro4 in this Country ? So we are getting rid of our older gas guzzlers and Co2 emissions failures,MOT failure etc and they are just being shipped abroad !!. Did you know Josh and Ula that the UK represents about 2-3% of the world’s carbon footprint ? We as a Country could do nothing about emissions and climate change and it would not make the slightest bit of difference to the World’s carbon footprint ?. Especially while Countries such as China, Russia, Africa are Spewing 💩 into the atmosphere and the water table in numbers that will never be known !!. There’s a City in China that is now uninhabitable because through industrial effluent they have contaminated the entire water table for centuries now !!. Pretty terrible 🤷‍♂️

If in Cities, or anywhere with a 20 mph limit, take extra care, as the stats are now out avout a very noticeable increase in Pedestrians getting hit by cars. Seems the cars appear to be going so slow, people think there is plenty of time to dash across, only to be hit by cars. The risk is seemingly increased, because to avoid Fines for doing over 20 mph, Drivers have no option but to look at the speedometer, instead of Watching the road ahead, so they aren't even seeing the pedestrians crossing in front of them. Not Good, and Definitely not a Road Safety measure. So be ultra cigilant in such speed limit areas. 🤔

The Morso Squirrel is the best small ultifuel Stove I ever owned, and the best Fuel for it, was the then very cheap South African Petro Coke, but had to watch it didnt burn through the Grate in the bottom of the stove, and the Grate was cheap to replace about every two years. With that fuel Winter freeze was Shorts and T Shirt in a room 24 ft by 10 ft. Like with Camping, it is important to have more inxulation under you than over you. So an otherwise totally useless 14.5 tog Duvet, is a great mattress topper, with a tog 10.5 Duvet on top. a 105 tog follows the body contour, so no draughts. a 14.5 tog is stiff as a board with Draughts all around the thing, and really cold to be under. the great thing with the Morso, is the secondary Combustion in the top of the Stove tbh. Keep Warm. Brst Wishes. Bob. ❤

My first question was from Josh's comment. "We're in a city" What city are you in??? I want to follow your travels on a canal map. Loved the shadow "Hellos". Cute idea. I've been reading up on the Kennet and Avon Canal and now am doing the same for your "ports of call". As you move down the canal have you already parked your van in Bradford-on-Avon? I'm hoping that you do a bit of touring around in Bradford-on-Avon as I'd love to see a bit if the historical town.. I went on a tour of Stratford-upon-Avon but didn't get as far southwest as Bradford-on-Avon. Glad to see all your heating systems are a go. I feel very lucky to have a microwave for those quick cups of tea I share with you as you travel. Today I enjoyed Apricot Sunrise from Ahmad Tea. Sorry to hear about the days of rain.. A day of rain isn't bad, but days of it can be a bit depressing. Especially if you have a new outside toy to play with.

Good evening both of you. I have been following you for some time. You cruised from Bath to Hilperton and beyond. You also featured a boat called Josh on your travels. I own that boat. I inherited it from my father who passed away in October 2018. I am usually a liveaboard but am staying with and looking after my mother currently. The boat has been in our family since my father bought it from Braunston marina in 2000. We always referred to Josh as Just Our Second Home, although that's not true these days. I am in the middle of installing a fairly elaborate computer controlled electrical system, based on 800Ah of Victron lithium batteries. The computer (a Raspberry pi) will ultimately monitor and control every function on the boat, both while I'm on board and remotely via the Internet. Once I've got it up together, you are welcome to come on board for a look around. Cheers, Peter.

Please note if you have a diesel inboard engine, the very worst couple of things you can do to them is use them i frequently, and ru them with a light load. Diesels love working, and I try to use mine for at least one hour a day after doing the Daily pre start checks, then e ery day you know they are still in great condition, condensation hasnt gone into the engine oil or the diesel Fuel, which needs to have the anti Diesel Bug additive in it as well. Actually, when crossing Oceans, I do two hecks and one hour runs an hour after Sundown with Sails furled, and an hour before Sunup to coincide with energy for topping up, hot water for showers, plus cooking Supper and Breakfast while on autopilot and getting close to 7 knots at low rpm with the right propeller, so under a nice engine cleaning load. Works for me. Bob. 👍

Wishing you both a cosy and cuddly Christmas, stay safe, wishing you health and happiness together for 2024, thank you for all the fun and joy you have made this year with your videos and sharing your life together. Cairns is getting back to normal after the cyclone although many major roads are still not passable over 100 homes have been wiped out at the Northern Beaches and it will not be a very happy Xmas for these people and their families. The Cairns community has been fantastic rallying around the homeless, lesson learnt you cannot predict nature. All the best guys xx's

Yet another great watch which for me seemed to go on longer than normal but I haven’t checked the length of your video yet. Hey Josh, I kind of like your coat mate, where did you get it? Oh and I’ve noticed that the inside of your boat look’s organised and cosy so my guess is you have both been busy lately, I can see a boat tour coming up soon 😊 I won’t be home for Christmas yet again but would like to wish you both and your families a very merry Christmas and hope Santa will be good to you ❤ 🎅 🌲

Why not use a clear tube to see how much fuel is in the tank? Drop it in and put your finger over the top to trap what is inside and tell you how much is in the tank?

Hey guys, was sad to have missed you when you cruised past a few weeks ago. You might remember i offered you a mooring berth alongside me at Foxhangers and a refill of water and battery charge. Don't forget to get in touch on your way back. You have my email already. Also think in next weeks video you should correct the little error about the boat yard/chandlery you just went to. Its NOT Hilperton Marina, its actually called The Boatyard and is a brilliant shed of wonders. Its very close to the Hilperton Marina and hire boat place which is why its easy to mix up, but the folks at The Boatyard are wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable and so i thought i'd shout out for them. :)

Of course we remember you!! You were our camera man at one point at crick! Haha brilliant. Yes yes, thank you very much for this opportunity for water and leccy, we do have your email written somewhere and would be lovely to stop off and see you one evening 🙏 thank you. I can't remember why we had to steam past foxhangers on the way down. Very good point, you're so right, the boatyard, old Spencer, not Hilperton! All the best lovely man, we shall see you on the way back up! Ula and Josh xx
