I think a better analysis for Butler would be his stats as the pass game coordinator in Buffalo, which was good. He was brought on so late this year he had to spend the whole year in catch up. I also feel like there was friction between what Tony White wanted and what he wanted, though this is just a feel.

DB’S played well against the Heisman Trophy winner and top 5 QB in draft! Tommy Hill’s injury was devastating! Nebraska has some good DB talent but they are young and inexperienced! Butler was an excellent coach at Buffalo! We will see what happens at DC!

@@brianh4669The schedule is, on paper, much easier in 2025 than 2026. The team could be better in 2026 and have a worse record than in 2025. 2026 sees Nebraska host Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio State, and Washington. They go on the road to Illinois, Iowa, and Oregon.

If you take a look at our position hires they’re B/B+ overall. Some of which were well outside of Rhules wheelhouse. He went out and got a good crew, That tells me he saw something in Butler he liked, I agree optics wise it’s a C hire, but I am open to being convinced. I like the fact that we’re playing Bill O’Brien, whom was probably our #2 pick if Rhule didn’t take the job. Kinda fun imo.
@judysmall823829 күн бұрын
I'm optimistic about the new hires; especially Holgorson. These coaches have good track records. I think Ruhle is over the Mr. Nice Guy routine. He's expecting performance and accountability next season.

That seat gets hot in a hurry. Satt was so bad, gave him every chance. But I think everyone is pretty happy about Dana.

I think Butler is an ok hire. In a presser Rhule mentioned he's gotten tons of phone calls from guys interested in the job (power 4 teams included) and for him to promote Butler means that he thinks he's the best one for the position. Whether that means he just thinks that Butler would be the easiest to work with (Rhule likes to be hands on with his defenses) or he just thinks that Butler having more familiarity with the defense will result in better defensive numbers next season. Either way I don't think our defense will be horrible next year. I'm just hoping our offense takes a jump under Holgorsen. GBR!

What a brutal year again. Man, they broke some losing streaks. They made a bowl, they beat a bad Wisconsin team. But they couldn't beat a mediocre UCLA and USC team and once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in Iowa City.

I agree with your grading on the butler hire but when you factor in bringing in Phil Snow as assistant head coach, I have to assume that Phil Snow will be helping out a lot on the defense. So I would bump it up from a C to a B (as an overall grade for the defensive coach hires)

Matt Rhule has always had great defenses no matter who the DC is. He has a big hand in it. And they hired Phil Snow as Assistant head coach.
@tysonkrehnke283529 күн бұрын
The recruiting and portal options seem fertile for Nebraska. They're filling much needed gaps in the roster. Probably still need lineman and it's hard to develop those quickly (look at Seaton in Colorado. He's about as ready as they come and got obliterated as a freshman). And the portal OL guys are super expensive.

So far most of Rhule’s hires have been “you could have done better” kind of hires. The ones on defense have worked but the ones on offense haven’t.
@CDAFishboy29 күн бұрын
I have to disagree with you on a couple of points. Butler is more qualified in 2024 than he was in 2013. Once Tommi Hill was hurt, the secondary was exposed. C. Wright would have been opposite of Hill to make a good pair of CB’s. There is no other talent. Rhule brought in 17 DB’s in 2 years and many were marginal talent. A few are very raw talents not ready. Butler did not have the time to work with these DB’s. He has Snow to “oversee” the defense and the new secondary coach has DC experience. I think Rhule wants coordinators to be stable.
@JeremyMcIntyre-v1n28 күн бұрын
Dana is a A hire. Butler is a C hire. The DBs are bad. Wright did very well, the rest was pretty bad. Gifford, hartzog, and hill got beat a lot. 2 of them will be gone, i think some of the guys coming up will play better. Nebraska got 3 4🌟 backers in the 25 class. The Defense has guys the question is how long before they are ready to play. Freshmen Kaona Davis played almost every game. I think they will add a portal guy at a lot of positions. But even if they dont the roster is good. Dana makes a big difference, Satt averaged 24 ppg this year, Dana averages 44 ppg and Dylan is the best QB hes ever had. Satt made so many mistakes last year its crazy.

Tell us your casual without telling us you're casual. You have zero clue if you think Nebraska won't get back. Actually less than ten years since a 9 win season. They spent 3 years of Mike Reilly. Then, gave Scott Frost 5 years because of favored son status. Matt Rhule is actually the 1st real attempt at getting back. Everything in place. Facilities, $$$, and now getting the players and staff in place to compete. Just think, you got that history lesson for free. Don't be that casual! GBR ☠️☠️☠️☠️
