Rev neglected to add in a reply that Millie had under her original tweet where she was asking if Selene actually got OFFICIAL perms from as Millie call's them Mana-chan. Also hate to break it to most people not associated with how Japanese companies operate, but to get an actual response from higher management in a short timespan can take literally forever unless Selene's "Mana-chan" has a direct line to the specific higher up associated with things like permissions. Another commenter also mentioned that things like personal MV's all associated thing with said MV: art, music, outside company permission have to be acquired by the talents themselves the only thin the company does is get internal permissions to upload the MV as well as making sure all ducks are in a row with paper work for outside perms needed, since japan overall is still heavily behind the times they would need notarized legal paperwork for all parties involved not counting artists since it uses Niji's already existing IP's. The most likely scenario in this case was: Selene asked "Mana-chan" to ask for permission to do the cover x-amount of time passed Selene got impatient and wnet to lilypichu's producer herself and asked for permission the made mention to her "Mana-chan" that she got the producers permission to do the MV. At some point she got the go ahead to start making the MV, not permission to have it as a PUBLIC video (this will be important later), MV was done it got uploaded couple hours later was removed. Now this is where I said the permission to make the video PUBLIC was important it almost 100% possible that "Mana-chan" never got the go ahead from the internal review branch of the company that it could be made public, which could've been a simple mistake on "Mana-chan's" part as they where probably told she'd get a response by X-date if it was a no due to either an oversite/work overload the response got delayed, and allowed Selene to make it public the video review branch probably saw that the video was public instead of unlisted. The video review branch pulled the plug quickly as to hopefully avoid any copyright issues and left us in this situation we are in now.

That's highly unlikely, for at least two reasons: 1) Corpo vtubers, especially those associated with big companies like Nijisanji, can't take a shit without their employers say-so. For example, a couple months ago Selen announced a Hololive x Nijisanji APEX tournament officially supported by EA and APEX Legends, which was largely suggested and championed by her. She knows how to seek proper permissions and was so thorough that she even got support from the game devs and publisher. So it's improbable she'd forget or jump the gun on something far simpler as a cover song. You're right to say there's a dissonance between japanese companies and western audiences/customs, but not to that extent and usually not on such a big agency like Nijisanji. And, especially, not multiple times on unrelated subjects, which leads us to the second point. 2) As you can see in the video, this isn't the first nor the second time Nijisanji fucks Selen over. And she's not the only one. Last year the company lost 3 of their most famous english-speaking livers, two of those having already moved on to Vshojo (and it's likely Mika will go there as well). Sure, none of them blamed the company for their departure, but when such high profile streamers in their primes start leaving a company in droves, it's a signal something must be wrong. Lastly, for the longest time there have been rumours of Nijisanji essentially being a _"black company"_ to work for. Of course, they're only rumours so I take them with a bucket full of salt. But all rumours have their start somewhere and as time passes and more creators are rugpulled by terrible management and others leave the company at the height of their careers to work somewhere else, they get just a pinch more believable. Eventually, the bucket may become empty.

People talk about her joining vshojo, but I doubt that would be her first choice. If she was going to leave and joint, a different agency, she would probably try for hololive en 4th generation so she could be with her friend mumei.
