The form for throwing the bo-shuriken is relatively close to what we use in Hapkido for throwing "small pointy things" (typically knives or chopsticks, sometimes 9" nails); my favorite thing to throw, though, is the flathead screwdriver -- which has an amazingly-satisfying *thud* when they hit the target just right.

This is super cool, its like axe throwing but with that extra cool ninja twist. i would love to try this myself. Also, I like how people feel free to espress themselves in both languages throughout the video. I am bilingual and our workplace is bilingual too.

Ah, Bo-shuriken brings me back. I made some of my own in the garage workshop of our summerhome cottage when I was a teenager and practice throwing them that summer. It was very difficult to master. But with practice I did make them stick into wood.

When I worked in a warehouse re-upholstering office panels and chairs, we used razor blade a lot. I started setting up an empty box several feet from my workbench and eventually, I got to where I could hit almost every time...with REAL RAZOR BLADES. They're too small to throw any way but "back-handed" and they're VERY light so they have to be thrown HARD to fly right. ALSO, when I worked for GameStop years later, I used to use the membership cards as shurikens and throw them at the marketing signage around the store. Since I was already good with razor blades, I could stick a membership card THROUGH a poster-board with ease. Truly a useless skill but people were always impressed...especially the nerds that hang out in the video game store.

I trained with shuriken however not the cross style I trained with moon stars as my name is Mooney, I would throw patterns as in making box's or triangles on my target, but my favorite weapon is the blow gun and I would train by hitting smaller and smaller targets as in grapes and bugs then on moving targets like a swinging mop handle, I learned to use a blowgun while in south America fron the Indians that use them for hunting, I own a replica katana that is forged from Damascus (pattern welded ) my martial arts training is in hapkido and judo although I only made it to red belt I still practice every day, I find your videos very helpful as I love Japanese culture.

i was watching the video with a fear in the back of my mind that being too close the thrown object might bounce back into the face of the thrower. i remember sometimes people playing around with a dartboard might throw a dart at a very close distance and it would bounce back off to the side of their head and i'd think wow this could have ended badly! but i guess the added danger with a dart board is when the tip of the dart hits the wire web causing it to bounch back, but i guess in this case it's all wood so should be able to absorb the impact no matter where it hits...but i always think (but maybe there's a freak set of circumstances, and sometimes the bo-shuriken does bounce a little)

Ok, so I read/saw somewhere that ninja never threw shuriken, and as a matter of fact it was a samurai weapon. Ninjas never used this weapon because you would be throwing iron away, and iron was to expensive to waste in this manner due iron was so expensive. Shogo, can you fact check this?
@hansihobr2 жыл бұрын
The only reference about Ninja use of the shuriken was to make marks, it wasn't used as weapon.
@SVD63Ninja2 жыл бұрын
As the comment above stated it wasn't a weapon. From what i've learnt aswell ninja did use shuriken but it wasn't made from more expensive metals. Shurikens were often made by cheaper metals or coins to act as a distraction tool more than a weapon to harm someone despite it having the capability to kill. Ninjas used shurikens to distract targets by making them think they were hit by a hidden swordsman,making them stunned. Or to draw attention away from the shinobi when they are in combat,trying to flee,or in any other situation. Unless the shuriken stuck the neck,heart,or weakspot in the skull usually it never killed aswell,though they could poison shurikens to become more lethal aswell. Shuriken were also favoured by ninja for the amount of utility they offer.

@@adriantepes4355 that is something they used before. But the problem is mainly gathering the herbs that cause it or the cost. As for the shadow clone,you don't need hallucinations but instead either multiple people that look like you or well placed decoys that look like you.
