OMG! Until now, I had no idea how long I was your subscriber. I'm quite sure it is close to 9-10 years, but maybe even more. For this time, I crafted DIY "something that looks like an unsharpened dagger." It was looking and performing badly. Years later, I made myself heat-treated professional knives and spikes. Later I participated in making production models of knives, hatchets and hawks for throwing. As a designer, I have a few with my name on them. Then competitions, and there I'm back on your channel. Thank you for the journey that would never be possible without you. Keep your disarming smile, and never stop laughing the way you do. You are such a positive person. 😄🤗

Aw, thank you! I'm glad I was in some part... part of your journey! When I started throwing...on a whim, there was no KZbin or video tutorials really online so I was just guessing on how to throw. When I did figure it out years later, I thought I should post my progress to help others out. So I'm glad to hear that I have helped someone along the way. It's great that it brought you into the world of knife making! Thank you for the comment!

@@Xolette Okay, I kinda hoped you were able to check out this guy's knives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn3PeKawpdqqmMk Both, Melon (that's his nickname, he is a funny guy) and Graf are friends of mine. I designed a few knives and showed them to Melon. At this time we were making small keychain tools with exceptional quality. I asked him (it was 7-8 years back): - Is it, by any chance, possible to manufacture very simple throwing knives on a budget? Today I'm sure it was just between "Impossible!" and "on a VERY tight budget." The target was something like today's 3x heat-treated, roughly made throwing knives for 100PLN, which back then was maybe 25-27-ish bucks. Today it is around $20. We've made it. Graf joined us a bit later with his own ideas. Some prototypes showed up, and the first small production batches. Graf said he wants to go all in with an online shop with branding, a nice look and a finish plus new, more refined designs. Later a few will make their dedicated offer. The idea of tomahawks pops up. I took one for testing, and it worked flawlessly. The quality was always out there. I mean price never reflected how high quality all these things were. Yes, just like those two freaks, I'm from Poland. 😄 Take care.

@@HanSolo__ Oh wow! What a small world. Glad Graf and Melon are still making knives and at a good price point! One of my favorite throwing knives is from Flying Steel but it'd be hard to get a set with them being expensive. Wow, tomahawks! Great video! I bought 6 of each weight of these a while back and for some reason thought the light ones would be my favorite and I would hate the heavy stars. But the opposite happened once I started practicing. I ran into the same issue you did where the lights are only good at shorter distances but are fun for multi star throws. However I've grown to really love the heavy stars - they have so much oomph and since I like to do two hand simultaneous throws it is very satisfying to land two heavy stars together! I really liked the breakdown of your calculations, lots to think about there.

I call them Hira Shuriken because that's the name Sharp Blades gave them. I think a more accurate name is Yagyu Juji shuriken-- and if I remember what I read correctly, the name comes from the school that uses them. But that's a good point about the heavy ones. Nice video Xolette. If you ever do another knife-throwing video, can you have your throwing knife pouch attached to your lower back so it'll be like you're pulling knives from behind your back and throwing them? Kind of like how some anime characters pull their throwing weapons out of nowhere by reaching behind their backs. What do you think?
@Xolette2 жыл бұрын
I tried putting that pouch on my back like in Naruto, but it doesn't really make sense ergnomically to have it back there. It just makes it slower when reaching for the shuriken because you can't see and have to go around your back to get them. But having them come out from there would probably look cool!

if you watch my video "best beginner throwing knives" (I think that's what it's called) in the description I go into detail for what I look for in a knife. I just went on Amazon and searched "no spin throwing knives" and there are a lot of slim designs that I like and at a good price, but I don't know about the quality. Acejet on Amazon has throwing knives recommended by Adam Celadin and they look like good quality knives. Mass produced, cheaper knives that I also like is Cold Steel's 12" Sure Flight. They work well for no spin and traditional throwing. Hope that helps!

Is shuriken an easier way to get started into throwing? I have tried with knives and hawks but had little luck. The estwing camp ax I've probably done the best with but distance is critical, at least for me.
@Xolette2 жыл бұрын
Oh, with shuriken you don't need to worry about distance and distance can be critical for traditional spin throwing-- particularly with axes because, depending on the design, it has to hit at the right point for a stick. Some knives, for example have a narrow enough point that it can stick at various angles. That's why I got my daughter started on these. Ninja stars that are bigger and heavier are one of the best tools, I think, for getting beginners into throwing. Maybe when I start getting her into actual knife throwing, I'll post a video on it... we'll see!
@backwoods76712 жыл бұрын
@@Xolette I appreciate the reply, I think I'll order some of the medium weight cold steel shuriken and make a good target. I remember the bladed broad did a video on how to make a good target a few years back.
@Xolette2 жыл бұрын
Yes, she did! I filmed myself making the target in this video and I came across a lot of issues I didn't forsee-- mostly with the stand it's on, but I worked through it. I hope to edit it when I have no other knife throwing projects ahead. But, in case you're wondering, one target takes about 2 to 3 2x4's, glued the blocks together, then placed in a frame with a plywood backboard. I don't think the threaded rods are necessary... but you should account for the wood to shrink so the frame might need adjustments down the line. But, you can now purchase end grain targets online. I looked up "knife throwing end grain target" on Amazon and there's "LJ's Log Targets" and "Acejet Wooden Target board" that looks pretty good.
