This all looks so cool! I just got my first rocket kit a few days ago, and am trying to learn everything I can before launching it.

A great amount of good information...I was wanting to try re-loadable motors but didn't feel that I knew enough about them. This presentation was very comprehensive and explained the possible failure modes in great detail which gives me the confidence to give these motors a try. Thank you for posting.

Thanks. The credit goes to Gary Rosenfield for sharing the information with all of us.

The Aerotech instructions are very thorough, and if you remember - to dry fit grains, liners etc. before assembly, - to put a chamfer on liners, - and to put the right amount of grease ("just to put a slight shine on it" - from a very old instructional video) before assembling the motor, then nothing can (?) go wrong.

I know this may be a ITAR question or a secrete/ just cant talk about but does Aerotech work with Raytheon ? I feel like they make they boosters for the Tomahawk ?

You might ask them. I don't really know who they do business with other than making hobby rocket motors.

My older brother use to fire off model rockets which was in the early 70's ... I remember pens use to come in a tube so they could be dispensed from a machine & that tube size was a perfect fit for a small motor.

Why do some reloads have a core while others have the C-slot. Also why do larger motors have the core off center?

To a large extent, you can tailer the specific thrust profile of the motor by changing the geometry of the propellant. Thrust is proportional to the surface area of propellant being burned. If you control the surface area by changing the slots or where they are positioned, you can change the thrust level. see: www.apogeerockets.com/Rocket_Books_Videos/Pamphlets_Reports/Model_Rocket_Propulsion

HAY GARY, COULD YOU ASK KARL TO SEND ME "AT MY EXPENSE " TWO SMOKE CHARGES FOR MY 98/15360 FORWARD CLOSURE ,I HAVE THE LINERS BUT NO SMOKE CHARGES

If you had the opportunity to meet Gary, and have him explain to you why your motor just burned a hole through the side of your rocket, would you take it?

love the idea of long-burn motors. Just enough to get it off the rail safely but not so much you can't appeciate the burn before it stops and the rocket disappears into the sky.

That's quite an achievement as he didn't invent them until the late 1980s

You know I dreamed of rockets becoming more available in every aspect. Any chance I could get to launch or get to be a part of something that gets to launch or build and see the results of your work especially if it's in a life or death situation. Imagine if the inevitable should happen. And then a rocket motor fire's out with a life saving chute that deploys and brings you and your plane back to the earth. Hopefully on land. But if should happen to open up and land in the water maybe airbags around the plane could be fitted to keep the plane upright until help arrives. Anyway good job. One job I would love to get up in the morning and help make a difference in a life or death situation. Plus a bonus getting to test rocket motors. Hey thanks for this video. This guy looks very familiar. Would that happen to be Gary from Aerotech? Thank you and yes I'm free to work on something as cool as that. Always Michael K Hobbs.
