One of the wildest things I have seen was this new 2017 Polaris Turbo get raced at the Southern Rock Race at Stony Lonesome Offroad Park. This thing took an absolute beating before the front driveshaft broke but that didn't stop him from giving it hell until it wouldn't go anymore.

typically the "roller cage" inside the front differential fails first in these scenarios. once the rollers are loose inside the differential, they just chew the inside of the case up and ruin the output assembly. I would venture to say that the rattling noise you're hearing after the front wheels lose power, is actually from inside the differential. Not saying it couldn't be a broken driveshaft..just speaking from 12 years experience working on Polaris machines.

drove the hell out of the thing, but seriously did he broke the driveshaft? he probably destroyed, the driveshaft to the point it was un-repairable, destroyed the pinion yoke, not to mention the beating the underside took, hes lucky it didnt break through the floor

The driveshaft? Of all the parts and it rolling down the hill you think the driveshafts are beyond repair? No, they're not. They rarely, if ever, fail. Yes i know this for a fact. A very good friend is close buddies with the guy who designed, built, and sells atv axles...you may have heard of them. They're called Gorilla Axle now. The synthetic belt that makes the transmission a CVT (dual adjustable pulleys connected by the belt) will break LONG before the driveshaft. Even much sooner than the belt though are the outer joints of the drive axles, the part that connects to the steering knuckle. That joint is the first thing to break if the vehicle hits a root or other immovable object...about 99% of the time if something is going to break. The shafts coming from the transmission to the differentials are designed and built to withstand 350% of stock engine power...that is according to the lead engineer from Polaris during the designing of aftermarket parts approved by Polaris, a deal that never came to full fruition. There's a reason you can find axles and axle rebuild kits all day long for RAZR's, but when and where have you seen a RAZR driveshaft for sale? Hope this helps you indersantd the engineering a little better. Take care.

TheDavidp82 - 😂😂😂😂🤣😃🤣🤣🤣 hahah man thanks for that. engineering... you really wanna say all that then say "engineering". so as an engineering expert tell me what forces driveshafts are made to hold? rotational forces? so when you break say a u joint... now that 350%? super strong driveshaft is getting used like a hammer hitting everything around it... rocks, hardened steel suspension links among other things. That wont cause any damage!?! 😂🤣😂🤣 speaking from experience, not a guy who knows a guy, i promise you it will dmamge the end of the super strong indestructible driveshaft. thanks for attempt Dave.

TheDavidp82 - oh and CVT = continuously variable transmission. those joints at the end of the axles, theyre called universal joints(or sometimes birfield joints), there's also two universal joints in your driveshaft, and thats what initially breaks usually. 😉👌👍

Broke front drive shaft at 43-44 seconds. You can hear it break and the front wheels stop spinning and the rear is still spinning. At 48-50 seconds ish, you can even hear some dude yelling “It’s broke, driveshaft is broke”
