Just a tip, diesel is GREAT at removing sludge and burnt oil. If you can run a quart through the motor before tearing down and keep a small moving tote near by with 5 gallons in it. You can soak your parts for 20minutes and pull them out clean CLEAN

Before I go and watch the next part of this series, I want to make sure I thank you for making this video. I just got done rebuilding my gen 3 LM7 and am facing the same issue, for the second time. Like you, I tried to keep it budget friendly and measured everything except the cam....I wonder what your next video will reveal.

The oil grove is in the trunion, you are basically building the same engine i am on my little channel, except i used lower compression pistons, same cam, trunions, tbss intake, very similar, i am waiting on the machine shop to balance everything, i switched to gen 4 rods.

Power washing ok. When I was in the army I cleaned my M16 by putting it under a steaming hot shower. Was I court marshalled? No. At inspection I was commended for having the cleanest weapon in the company.

I'm rebuilding my 02 LQ4 right now. Mine locked up at 275k cause the doorman oil cooler lines I put on a month prior failed at the worst possible time. 4/8 rod bearings spun and welded to the crank but the mains managed to escape unscathed. Got a 4 inch stroke forged crank to go in there with forged rods and pistons. Sure it might of been a little cheaper to buy a used one but I like the route of having a fresh rebuilt engine thats a 408 stroker
@BobBrown-x5i Жыл бұрын

I hope you replaced the cam retainer plate if you re-use the original plate it doesn't seal loses oil pressure at the front of the cam!

Try running 10w 30 oil instead of the 5w 30 i had this same issue on a sbc rebuild all clearances were good oil pressure was fine cold when it got to operating temp 0 pressure. Switched to 10w 30 no more issues i don't understand how the cold weight made a difference but ive put 40k hard miles on it since with zero issues if that doesn't work try a 5w or 10w 40 engine oil my guess is there is excessive clearance between the new cam bearings and the aftermarket cam or bad seal on the cam thrust plate

Harbor freight has a bearing seal installer like 30 bucks works for the cam bearings on the LS and seals

I’d say those cam bearings might be the wrong size as gm changed the size in late 5.7 20thou difference and the cam bearings are allocated a certain journal location which is on the inside of the bearing box

lots of respect for doing all this work. but pressure washing all those parts without instant break clean afterwards to prevent flash rust, literally gave me anxiety. like i said, respect tho for massive project.
@FlawlessPlanGarage Жыл бұрын
Oh, if you watch the rest of the videos your respect will probably go away, lol. But I don't know about using brake cleaner to prevent flash rust - brake cleaner evaporates and doesn't leave much behind? I like to hose stuff down with WD-40 to prevent flash rust - it's cheap and effective. Not everything gets caught on camera...

I did replace those and did get them right! I covered the real reason in the video, it was a dumb mistake but not because I missed the dogbone or misalinged the cam bearings - the cam bearings were the only thing I could have reused!

You should get eletric fans from an 05 or newer it makes for so much more room for activities and im going to start shimming the oil pump for a little more pressure
@nathanstout776311 ай бұрын
Why would you need more oil pressure? 40psi at hot idle on these engines. 80psi at redline hot. 60psi just regular driving. The specification from GM for the lowest is around 11 psi i think. What issues are you trying to avoid ?
@james1073911 ай бұрын
@nathanstout7763 I don't recall ever seeing 40 psi at hot idle maybe like 30 but mine is down to like 20 which is probably fine but I'm not really trying to live near or on the bare minimum and I have never seen 80psi either so I'm just talking about swimming like .100 basically the same as the millings high pressure oil pump and don't see any downside to a little more pressure
