SCP-1609 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Remains of a Chair.
SCP-1609 is, at the present time, a pile of splinters, wood chippings, furniture nails, and scraps of bleached leather and fabric. When exposed to a number of specific stimuli, SCP 1609 will react violently. During a typical violent reaction from SCP1609, it will teleport a portion of its mass inside the lungs of nearby personnel, causing immediate and severe lacerations to the interior of the lungs, as well as pulmonary obstruction, which rapidly leads to the victim’s death.

@Perez Rodriques global occult coalition. They’re a UN funded group who’s prime objective is to usually destroy anomalies. They’re the in vogue anti foundation since the foundation’s goal is containment and research the goc usually just destroys things without proper understanding and like with 1609 can sometimes make things a whole lot worse

Yeah they could not believe that it was dangerous they probably did some test with it realizing only wanted to help people by helping them relax when stressed where ever you are I wonder if the other chairs had similar non threatening and entirely helpful properties they probably did they definitely didn’t interview the carpenter or the customer and now that I think about probably did do anything tests to see what the anomaly did before destroying them because if the carpenter was evil why would he intuitively make a chair that teleports to people who really need to sit down and relax but have to options open to do so he probably made anomalies like the chair to offer people in need no matter where they are in the world comfort when it’s needed most the act of just making anomalies even to just offer genuine comfort to literally everyone on earth who really needs it made him evil in there eyes idiots it’s an example why you don’t send cultists to do a foundations job they probably try to kill 343 someone who potentially could actually be god himself

That sentient chair is kind of adorable in a way. It wanted to help people and be kind to humans, but the GOC gave it a severe case of PTSD by putting it into a wood chopper. It came to the Foundation because it was afraid to ever get hurt again, by the GOC and kill everything that resemble the people who have hurt it. Now it rests in a flower bed to help people again and gets complimented by the Foundation. What a sad, and yet good story.

A good example of why the SCP Foundation is written primarily about containing rather than destroying or neutralizing SCPs or in the cases of benign SCPs letting them go. You can't guarantee that what you seen is really as bad as they will get. In some rare splinter cases termination is a necessity, but as a whole termination of anomalous objects can result in even further anomalous objects but now less predictable requiring new tests to understand.

“SCP-1609 represents a perfect example of the flaws inherent in the operating procedure of the [Global Occult Coalition], and serves as a cautionary tale for any members of the Foundation who disagree with our practices containing dangerous objects. Prior to the GOC getting their hands on this, it was perfectly harmless. A chair which teleports to you when you need a seat is normal compared to most of the stuff that we deal with on a regular basis. When they put it through a woodchipper, it got hurt, scared, and angry, so it lashed out at them. By trying to ‘PrOtEcT tHe WoRlD’ by destroying it, they inadvertently made the situation a whole lot worse. SCP-1609 went from harmless to deadly in the space of a few minutes because of the GOC, and we had to clean up the mess. Thankfully, SCP-1609 is pretty simple for us to deal with. So long as we don’t do anything stupid around it, it won’t fight back and it won’t try to leave. Even if it does, it usually comes back. I think I’ve worked out why. It came to us because it was afraid of the people who hurt it. That’s why it always comes back. It’s afraid of the rest of the world now, and it’s looking to us for protection. This is why we have Special CONTAINMENT Procedures instead of Special DESTRUCTION Procedures. If you break something, it’s broken forever. When you try to destroy an anomaly, you can’t take back your mistakes. That’s what SCP-1609 has to tell us. This is why we’re right and the GOC is wrong, people.” -Dr Sievert (1609’s original file)

There's a reason the only time the foundation really tries to destroy something is if it's a large threat. The foundation seeks to study SCPs and if possible make a mundane version out of the helpful ones that can then be produced and given to the public, contain those things that aren't that beneficial, destroy the hostile things that pose a threat to the world if possible, and contain everything else. The key to that is to understand everything about an object.

I remember hearing there was a short story about this SCP from the GOC's point of view and apparently there were several chairs like it that were successfully neutralized through the use of an incinerator (the ashes had no anomalous effect). However when it was 1609's (called E622 in GOC custody) turn the incinerator broke and was in need of repairs. A couple of GOC officers went against orders and figured "Hey burning it to ashes work, why not just toss it into a wood chipper?" and thus they did that. So really it was a matter of the GOC breaking it's own rules and procedures. I know it's tempting to agree with Dr. Sievert about how SCP 1609 is proof that the GOC is wrong and the Foundation is right but the thing is, they have caused their own problems before. Heck two SCPs that ended up causing massive global death and destruction and required the foundation to restart where caused because of the foundations obsession with finding a universal amnestic when they have plenty of good alternatives.
