This feels disturbingly similar to the adaptation of Kinnikuman Nisei. For context, in the original Kinnikuman storyline, one of the earlier arcs involved Robin Mask (a british wrestler wearing a knight's helmet) gaining something of a Heel persona because he "lost by fluke" to Kinnikuman and notably, got his helmet damaged with a massive gash in it during said fight with Kinnikuman. It was seemingly written off later since Robin Mask and Kinnikuman became friends later on. However, in Kinnikuman Nisei, a series focusing on the children of the wrestlers of the original Kinnikuman, Kevin Mask ends up in the wrestling championship and is set to face Mantaro, son of Kinnikuman. Kevin feels the "grudge" of Kinnikuman vs Mask was never settled and the Mask family was "shamed" since they never won another wrestling championship. Now in the manga, Kevin and Mantaro fight and Mantaro is cocky because he's "always pulled out a win" often seemingly through dumb luck or his opponent underestimating his buffoonery, but it was actually because Mantaro showcased friendship and compassion, which is the source of the Kinnikuman bloodline power; fighting for someone other than yourself. In the fight with Kevin, Mantaro couldn't get over his petty emotions with Kevin from much earlier in the manga and Kevin takes advantage of it and ends up winning the wrestling championship by beating Mantaro. Kevin, however, feels hollow and isn't sure this was what he was supposed to do, and it's only when he sees Mantaro struggling to get back up and he goes over to help him, ignoring his pride and the family grudge that he sees that the feud was all in his head. THIS is important as it sets Mantaro straight on needing to realize how important friendship and kinship is to the bloodline of Kinnikuman, but feels he let everyone down, not because he lost, but because he wasn't a real friend to everyone who needed him. In the anime, which went through development hell, they erroneously changed the outcome of the fight to have Mantaro beat Kevin with a move he didn't use until much later in the manga, and Kevin doesn't forgive Mantaro or the Kinnikuman bloodline, and only drops his grudge when Warsman (a family friend to the Mask family) basically spells out the history of the two families and then the anime ends there. By having it end that way, Mantaro is not shamed the way he was supposed to be to be put in his place and Kevin isn't given a resolution to his grudge, making for incredibly unsatisfying finale.

There was a point in time where Negima was my absolute obsession. I never did finish it (I dropped off at some point while the series was making the slow transition towards the Magical World), but I did love every bit of it that I read. Which is why I was *glad* to know that skipping the anime was a good call. There used to be debates about which anime was better between Xebec's original Negima and Shaft's Negima!?, and people would *defend* Xebec's Negima for its "accuracy". Granted, Shaft's Negima!? chose to go in a COMPLETELY different direction, but to say Xebec's Negima was "true to the source material" is an outright lie, considering how badly volumes 4-6 were botched, as well as the "Asuna Fucking Dies" filler ending that rushed out to give every single student a Pactio at the last moment. People also insisted that Xebec's Negima had "more fanservice", which was ALSO plainly untrue; even the ecchi scenes they lifted STRAIGHT from the manga were so watered down that you'd find more spice in a bar of soap (naturally, being Shaft, Negima!? was also superior to Xebec's Negima in the fanservice department). Of course my obsession eventually did lead me to the Negima Live Action J-drama, and *oh boy*. I only lasted about 5 episodes before dropping that one for good. You couldn't miss the mark HARDER than the live action show did, in terms of Negima's energy and spirit. For one thing, the lighting and the set they used for Mahora Academy was REALLY dull and depressing-looking at all times, and there was at least one person crying in EVERY episode (I dunno if that's just a thing with J-dramas???). Fuck, there was even an episode about Kaede and the twins, and THEY start crying in the middle of it.

It's actually a genuinely interesting manga 'cause the author got ropped into making a harem slice of life while he really wanted to do a battle manga... and he eventually gets his way, with one tournament arc leading to the next until a harem of super-powered highschool girls fight demigods to save multiple worlds and timelines. ... Yeah, it gets absolutely ridiculous by the end and it's nothing you've never seen, but the strange mix of ingredients bring a lot of spice to the dish - and it's also very competently written and some of the sceneries are gorgeous.

another bad anime adaption is berserk "2016 and 2017" this anime cuts out a lot important arcs from the manga. for example episode 1, this episode adapts the black swordsman arc and skips the lost children arc. they cut scenes from the black swordsman arc like guts killing the female apostle who was the one killed corkus and the other members of the band of the hawk, cutting out the count apostle, the first interdiction of the godhand and guts relationship with Griffith, removing the relationship between guts and puck, and over all how guts is betrayed in the anime. next is episode 2, which adapts a chapter from the manga that came after the lost children arc. okay, listen to this, so Farnese and Serpico appear in the manga and the anime and their after guts in both manga and anime but, with the lost children arc removed Farnese and Serpico don't mean anything in the anime. meanwhile in the manga they have a reason why they're after guts in the first place, because in the manga they were after him because he killed demon children and they thought he was a child murder. there are other plot points from the manga that were removed or were in the anime, but were placed in a different spot in the anime. if you want to learn more about this dumpsters fire of an anime check out cvit's review on both 2016 and 2017. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX6zgqSPdqarnZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ61iGena62FZ68

This makes me think of Black Clover, though it didn't remove anything as far as I can remember, but they definitely started ruining it immediately at the start. The manga initially comes off as generic, with most of the characters feeling like characters we've seen in other series, but the manga succeeds by it's tight pacing, good story & characters. The pacing of the manga is one of it's best points, it's probably the only manga I've ever read where nothing felt extraneous, everything was either furthering the plot or showing character development. The 1st episode literally starts with some filler bs about 2 of the characters as babies & the priest being like "they will be something in the future". Then go onto the 2nd episode where they stretch a single page flashback into half an episode, & then the 3rd episode is completely filler. They seem to use the filler a lot to exaggerate character personality traits making them feel more one dimensional, like when they go to the Witches Forest & they add in a few minutes of Finral flirting with every women they see, while they're running for their lives. So the anime ends up ruining the pacing & characters making them both feel more generic overall.

I think another "adaptive difficulty" episode should be on the novel adaptation of transformers war for cybertron video game known as "transformers exodus" seriously, they changed so much, that it's hard to tell if they're from the same continuity. At least the PRE-war stuff is compatible (espically since they adapted chapter 12 - 15 into a war for cybertron prequel comic.), but the stuff that takes during the war... I'm sorry, but why change certain details, like zeta prime's boss or trypticon's boss?

Ultimately, this is why I don't watch anime, subbed or dubbed. Period. You can't expect the people who make these shows to honor the source material. I love the first two arcs of Sailor Moon's manga, but I also know just how much the anime in the 90's was botched. Animation errors. Filler Episodes. Blatant Censorship. The abduction of Mars, Mercury and Jupiter in the second arc of the manga is one of the leading motivations for Usagi to stop the black moon. The girls are locked in a veil of darkness, kept as hostages by the black moon to lure Sailor Moon into their base, where they plan to kill her. The girls aren't rescued until about 5/8ths through the arc. In the anime, this abduction scheme takes place over two episodes, Crimson Rubeus abducts all of the girls in one fell swoop instead of each of them being captured in their own separate act (Venus is also captured, even though she doesn't in the manga), these episodes happen BEFORE the sailor guardians head to Nemesis to confront Demande and Wiseman (which has implications because Mars, Mercury and Jupiter don't get to learn that Chibi Usa is Usagi's future daughter in the manga, they do in the anime because the abduction scheme takes place over two episodes), and now, everything is screwed up and I wouldn't watch this trash in a fucking bribe. (Or any other anime for that matter). If it can happen here, (in this case Negima!), It can happen anywhere. Don't buy the dip!

@@kyshowman6847 Noted. To be fair, despite my lack of interest in harem anime, _Negima!_ is also basically the only one that I have never read or heard anything bad about (until this video about its apparently bad anime). It also is the only one does seem vaguely interesting despite being a harem anime. So maybe I'll finally look into the manga. Regardless, I was surprised to hear that Negi is Welsh or at least a native of Wales since I legitimately can't think of any other modern media with Welsh characters at all, much as main characters, outside of that _Torchwood_ show with Ianto Jones. Even then, unlike Negi, Ianto isn't the protagonist--he's just in a relationship with him. I won't pretend to really know anything about Wales, but it's basically like if I heard there was a manga or hell any story were the main character seemed to randomly be from Uzbekistan or a similarly ignored country: I would do a mental double-take.

So what did the anime adaptation do? Literally thow 90% of the plot and introductions to the characters into the garbage and replaced it with more or less terrible filler episodes. It was a travesty! I agree with this video. But the manga story wasn't really that better in the end. I read the manga and left it unfinished. In the end nothing makes sense anymore. Characters pop up and disappear, too many characters, side plots occur and lead to nothing, no real end goal except " we have to defeat them because..." even so Negi had no alternative plan to save Mars (he even says that to Fate when confronted), Negi becomes an one man army and basically makes the whole pact partner thing pointless and many, many more things that are 100% illogical. I could rant about the story for hours. It kinda became like Bleach in the end. Ken Akamatsu acknowledged that the story had to be rushed in a later statement.
