How NOT To Tarp Hay!! I stacked some round bales, and tried to cover it with a tarp from Inland Hay Tarps. Watch this video so you don't make the same mistakes I did!

Would you use this method to tarp horse hay in canadian winters?

Great advice. Inland makes a great product. We have several of their tarps for large square bales and I have plans to add some for rounds as well. The tie down system is as easy as anything I've seen used. They are made about a hundred miles from here so they have a large influence in this area.

Good information, thanks! I'll probably have a bunch of round bales to sell next year, was thinking about going with a tarp on them.

They seem like a good quality, and are easy to tie down. Hope things are going well for you!

That size tarp would probably be about right if you made 5' diameter bales... That extra foot in diameter also doubles the bale weight 😎 Personally, I would still split the top row. If you pull the sides in first, then the top down like wrapping a package. Haven't tarped anything in years, but did tarp 4×5 rounds for a long time... Best thing is a real roof!! A roof will pay for itself... Especially by the time you figure tarp, labor and any loss... A mouse, bird, or any other critters can make a hole, the you lose a few bales... Tarps are good for temporary...

@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin I agree- this size tarp would be good for 5' bales.

I use the inland tarps, typically buy 4 at a time, great tarps but hate our new mexico sun and wind.

Hey, it's your first time.. cut yourself some slack! Ha ha. Looks like a nice system bud! I thought about getting one a while back, lots of people use them around here. Best of luck with the tractor situation!

Do you think it’s safe for round bales to be completely tarped from top down and all sides (nothing exposed)? We have 22 4×5 round bales sitting outside on pallets that have been completely covered with tarp and have been anchored down with J hooks into the ground. They seemed completely dry and the hay farmer said they were baled at 10% moisture. Under the pallets is the ground (grass) and we live in northern Wisconsin so I’m not quite sure if they’ll mold or even worse - catch fire. This is what the previous owner told us to do but I see so much conflicting information online (some sites say to completely cover too) about storing hay so I’m not quite sure who/what to follow. Thank you!!
