How Often Should a CAT EAT? 🐱 (Newborns, Kittens and Adults)

I have a few street cats that stay in my yard, have been since the summer. I enjoy their company every day. I feed them a mix of both wet and dry Purina food. They devoure every plate. I feed them twice a day, morning and evening, and on weekends, when im home most of the day, ill usually give them one extra plate.

I have 2 cats. Cat A will scarf his food, and Cat B nibbles, leaving some. Then Cat A will go and eat the remainder of Cat B's. So, I feed them 3x a day, 1/4 cup of dry food. When Cat B is done, I'll put his food up, and he'll usually let me know when he's hungry again. (THOUGH I try not to give him it within an hour of the next meal.) They have a 2L water fountain... and between them, can empty it in a day or 18 hours.

Sounds like you are feeding them in good proportion and increments. Based on what I have researched, I would eliminate one of the dry meals and add a wet meal. As a precaution as cat's are sensitive to drastic food changes, I would introduce any new food--dry or wet--slowly over the course of 5-7 days.

1/4" Cup of Food 3 times a day is a pretty large amount, assuming you have large cats that require this much nutrition.

I feed very intuitively...twice a day wet food, free feeding dry. If one or both became obese, I would adapt them to a food with more fiber and a less calorie-dense wet food.

They are two....and have a fountain and two other water 💧 sources. Fountains are also meditative or entertaining for them, just like a fountain ⛲ or fireplace is enjoyable for us. Also, cozy washable folded Terry cloth towels or velvet on the radiators!

Thanks for the video! Spacing out and rationing the food may be more troublesome but it may also prevent overeating as well. Sometimes overeating can cause the cat to puke so it really depends on the cat

I make sure the bowl is full everyday and the water is full everyday, he is a 3 month old kitten and usually will drink about a half a bowl of water and half a bowl of food. Lately he’s been eating more due to his growing size. I’ve never found a problem with it and don’t think I ever will. Have always had healthy cats!

My cat eat 6 am wet,12pm dry small portion his tea break at 3or 4 pm dry small portion and at 7 wet half of the morning wet meal and small portion dry midnight snack coz he is more awake at night😂

My kitten came from outside not sure what his diet was but he always begs for human food there are times he will abandon his kibble to beg for what we have. He also ask for food everytime we are in the kitchen or he sees us eating. If he finds human food he will eat it. He already gained 3.5lbs being with me in a month

@@mrkakarot5187 not much has changed lol he’s still fairly food motivated like last night he got on the table and knocked his kibble container over hoping it would spill out. I will say with a lot of redirection he is less impulsive when it’s food time I distract him with opening the window in a room. Also have taught him to sit and wait for me to set this dish down.

Please, please be cautious with feeding table food--many of our foods are dangerous, even toxic to cats. A rule of thumb I feel is if it is found in cat food then it is generally ok to feed with exception to grains which is a debatable topic but causes my cats to itch. My 1st cats initial vet advised it was ok to cook boiled chicken breast in water--I would think low sodium broths are ok--NO seasoning. You could also prepare same with salmon. A behavorist and feline care expert recommended human-grade mackerel in brine (fyi--also sold at Dollar Tree), remove the spine and bones and serve at 1 Tablespoon servings 1-2 times per day. Jackson Galaxy, feline expert, KZbin sensation advises a wet food only diet and has a 3-part series: Food--The Good, Bad and Ugly. Please watch. I hope I was helpful

That's a tragedy waiting to happen.. Wait for a year or two.. They will develop UTI or whatever...don't feed them all the time. It's safer to feed them not so frequent.

Wrong. Cats don't eat that often in the wild, so why would you feed them so much and often? Wet food twice a day, and some dry food during the day is sufficient.

@@beachinel4776 @Zeuqx FC A feline behavorist and wellness expert taught me that a cheap dry cat food goes straight through and out the other end--not much nutritional value is absorbed into their cells. She advocated for Hill's Science Diet--eventually, my cats seemed to develop an allergy to chicken and were scratching a lot so I had to discontinue. Foods that she and vet recommended: cook boiled chicken breast in water--I would think low sodium broths are ok--NO seasoning. You could also prepare same with salmon. Human-grade mackerel in brine (fyi--also sold at Dollar Tree), remove the spine and bones and serve at 1 Tablespoon servings 1-2 times per day. And then there is also the option of wet cat food. @@zogbot5103 If I can jump in..."meat" is best fed to cats as they are obligate carnivores. So we feed them human-grade meat. However, other types of human foods are detrimental even toxic. Grains are not necessary. Meat and fiber seem best.
