Also how much of its service life was spent in 0 gravity so this would definatly alter what we perceive to be airframe attrition. Take aircraft for example, they are done on airframe hours and this is ,easy red off the engine operating hours so in theory the Callender age isn't as much for concern as total time in service. Assuming the relevant inspections inspections are dome and adhered to. Not sure if they would be running an engine hour meter or odometer either. Opens a huge can of worms now doesn't it😂
@jdeglers5 жыл бұрын
The Spruce Goose looks great, is well cared for, and might actually fly. But no one in their right mind would. There are lots of examples of well cared for cars that survived well past their design life. But for every one of those there are 1000 that did not. Same for aircraft. I’m not sure it would matter being in vacuum or not. That same environment has high and low temperature fluctuations that would stress the metals over time. And that’s where the problem is: Temperature change. Metal fatigue can’t be escaped. And even in microgravity maneuvering stresses would still cause metal fatigue.
@JSchroederee5 жыл бұрын
The average service life of passenger airliners is 30years, I’m sure most of these could be flown by smuggler for a good number of years after the airlines are done with them. That said it all comes down to how long it was designed to last. Technology has been advancing rapidly in the real world so designing for an airplane for a century of service life doesn’t make a lot of sense. The Star Wars universe seems to have reached a period technological stagnation so designing a craft that will be serviceable for centuries makes sense.

Really? When there are intercontinental ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, stealth bombers, modern fighters which can knock out ground targets with pinpoint accuracy they need a 1950's relic from the time of intercontinental range strategic bombers? What other use than as a "strategic reserve" (itself an absurdly far-fetched scenario) slightly above "mothballed" does it have? Waste of tax payer money. And 90 year old airframes? There's always going to be inherent risks with that. Not even civil airlines which check their aircraft meticulously use frames older than 30 years. Aging alu-frames are prone to cracks and nasty surprises.
@Debbiebabe696 жыл бұрын
Thats half the problem. All that hi-tek stuff like ICBMs and stealths you mentioned were designed to fight a large state. When you are trying to kill a Toyota pickup with a couple of guys carrying AK47s in the back (99.9% of the wars we fight nowadays), a nuclear tipped intercontinental ballistic missile is *REALLY* not appropriate... The old B52 just chugs on, and does the job.

Actually, the Millenium Falcon does have cargo bays. According to the Haynes manual, the YT-1300 has two cargo bays. One at the front of the ship, near the cockpit, and one at the aft that doubles as the engine room. The YT-1300-F variant has an additional two cargo bays, replacing the aft bunks. In addition, there are compartments below-deck, and dorsal cargo containers are an option. Do note that the YT-1300 is NOT a bulk freighter. It's designed to carry small-unit cargo, such as packaged goods and machinery, rather than bulk cargo like grain, fuel or ore. Think a cargo plane rather than an oil tanker. The external cargo containers from the concept art are likely a bulk-cargo module that can be "towed" by the YT-1300 and similar ships.

People have to remember that Han Solo was wanted by the Empire for high treason due to him rescuing a group of Wookies from being used as slaves by the Empire when he was a young imperial officer which is how he met Chewbacca and why Chewbacca stayed with him due to Wookies rule of life debt due to his heroic actions to save the Wookies . So Han Solo could not have owned the Falcon for more then a few years after he won it from Lando not long before A New Hope took place

He won it from Lando in a game of saabac not long after he went on the run from the empire . He was around 22 or 23 when he entered officer school and a short while later is when he was assigned to a ship transporting wookie slaves and seen the abuse the empire was doing so he freed the wookies . He was about 33 in a new hope therefore he owned the falcon for aroun 10 or 11 years during a new hope .

I cannot find a time when Han won the Falcon from Lando...All we can determine is he met up with Lando and had a match with him, where Han won the Falcon. The Legends says 2 or 3 years... However, it appears it isnt canon anymore. Someone has told me Han claimed to have owned it 5 years in ESB, though I cannot find it to confirm this. Since we do have some back stories that are canon, we know a few things... 1.) Han has known Lando for many years, 2.)In ESB, Lando hasnt seen Han in a very long time, we know this because Han suggests that Lando could help them if he still owned Cloud City. 3.) Lando suggests in ESB he hasnt seen Falcon in a very long time. 4.> Han Solo and the Falcon are well known in the galaxy even to a point of being legendary. Since Jabba wouldnt simply allow Han to do smuggling without some experience and even a name for himself (Also Jabba had given Han some leeway in paying him which means Han had some standing with Jabba), we must assume Han been doing this for a long time. We do know that Han did smuggle well before wining the ship though, however even the ship is legendary and connected to Han. If I had a guess, Id say based on way people became famous (In the Universe), it took Han and his ship 4 to 5 years. 3 at the least, 10 at the most. NOTE: It has been confirmed we shall see Han win the ship from Lando in the 2018 movie of himself.

Thing is, in space, weight is essentially meaningless. Without petty nuisances, such as gravity and friction in the form of air resistance (not much resistance when it averages about 1 atom per cubic centimeter, and keep in mind that air at sea level has about 40 billion BILLION atoms in a cubic centimeter), you would move pretty good, and even coast for a while if you didn't enter hyperspace, without losing any significant amount of momentum. Entering a planet's atmosphere is another matter entirely, but I would imagine most freighters with a humongous cargo container smack dab in the front would dock with either an orbital station or larger vessel, or even detach it so another ship, one more suitable for atmospheric flying with cargo, could dock with it. That 100 metric tonnes of cargo is likely what it's cleared to haul in-atmosphere..
@2MeterLP7 жыл бұрын
kefkamadman weight IS important in space. If you try to push 100 tons of cargo with a fireworks rocket it will get up to speed. But it will take a looooong time.
@bewatermyfriend56287 жыл бұрын
pushing an object in space wouldn't be that hard as long as X can produce greater inertia than Y. In space this can be achieved easy and you don't necessarily need a large ship but it makes sense why the YT series had over powering engines for its size. It would also make sense to having a YT ship on the other end of the cargo storage units facing in on the cargo so the cargo can be controlled to stop.

We use a calendar based on the year a religious figure who may or may not have even existed was supposed to have been born, yet the years don't align to any specific dates in relation to that event. Considering in the modern world we aren't all that religious anymore, and it's a figure only really of meaning to one religion, yet the calendar in question is used worldwide, even in places where that specific religion had little to no influence, it's safe to say that reference dates for calendars are ultimately always pretty arbitrary. Me? I came up with some arbitrary calendars of my own based around different principles to the solar year, and having nothing better to do, referenced it to the mayan calendar's supposed 2012 date. (sometimes regarded as the 'end of the world', but otherwise seems to have been referencing the 'galactic year - the time it takes for our solar system to do a single orbit around the galactic centre.)

Andrew Gwilliam but we in the real world date everything as well of an event. BC and AD of Christ's existence, bronze age, ice age, jurassic period, space age are all mediums one can relate to. ..storytelling a time line you need a basis of a medium and star wars is no different. it's just the battle of Yavin or the clone wars era is what most fans seem to know.

The fact that there was an explanation for the helmet Luke wore in Episode IV is so hilariously pointless but also sums up about 95% of why the Expanded Universe was so convuluted. Had it been allowed to go on, there would have been an entire book focusing on how the rebel's gear on Hoth was woven from a force-sensitive tauntaun that was a rival to the wampa that kidnapped Luke and yadda yadda yadda. I'm in awe of the fact that someone somewhere thought "You know what needs to be explained? This ."

You say it's not canon since the Disney movies came out, but I think every TRUE Star Wars Fan will agree by now that the Disney's Star Wars cheapens the franchise almost as much as the reboot of Star Trek destroys Gene Roddenberry's vision. These new Star Wars movie are Cheap & Shallow with weak plots compared to the originals... just make me sad.

Fun fact because of 'Space:1999' the design of the Falcon was changed very late in the day (originally she would have been a long ship with plenty of cargo space but someone pointed out the design for that show and Lucas changed it) so the sets were rebuilt very late, so late in fact that former carpenter Harrison Ford pitched in to help meaning that in the real world Han helped build her.

For the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs commentors: The explanation to making the Kessel Run in less then 12 parsecs, when parsecs are a measure of distance and not time, is rather simple actually. The Kessel Run is a dangerous area of space filled with dangerous singularies and other dangerous areas of space for a ship to go through. To pass through the Kessel Run, one must navigate an extremely long course through it, people can make claims to fame by choosing shorter, yet more dangerous, routes in the Kessel Run, as such boasts are not just how fast the ship is, but her ability to survive dangerous endevours.

There's actually a Star Wars paperback called Millennium Falcon. It pretty much explains the day it was built, the quarks it had, etc, almost like it was a person. Then on through when Han gets it. Then some adventures after he took ownership. I read this book about 10 years ago. So i think the book goes a bit after the Battle of Endor. It's a good read.

Great video, but you missed an opportunity here. After arriving at the number "94," there's really no excuse not to cut quickly to Obi-Wan nodding and repeating "94" in the Mos Eisley Cantina. There's literally a clip of Sir Alec Guiness acknowledging the number "94" and it should have been included in this video.

ya, Solo kicking it to the 11 BBY range for starters(based off Chewie's age, he was 190 in Solo and ~200 in New Hope, so give or take when in the year) but Disney did toss all the extended stuff out(after raiding it for ideas)

Lol, so many people use this line. It doesn't change the way the story played out. It doesn't make the new movies any better. They're still gonna keep making new media based on what they currently consider "canon". At some point people like you gotta realize that while you might like some older SW films and other related media, you're not a Star Wars fan because you don't like the current product and probably won't like anything they put out in the future. That's ok, I'm not either. Don't get so wrapped up in "canon". You just like some things from the franchise, not the entirety of it.

YT-Series vessels had built-in magnetized portions of the outer hull designed to magnetize cargo to the surface of the vessels underside and topside. That "Rebel Alliance spare parts" satellite dish is actually from a CR90 Corvette, a product of Corellian Engineering Corporations CR-Series Line, the same company that invented the YT-Series Line that the Falcon is part of.

Push Back All they had to do was try. They had unlimited budget and access to all the most talented people in the world. They could have hired _anyone_ they wanted. They had one of the most engaged and dedicated fan-bases, built in. They had a universe that makes great storytelling easy. They had literally everything on their side. There was no fucking excuse for the film they ended up making.
@fkerpants9 жыл бұрын
What I couldn't get past was how unoriginal it was. It was the same goddamn story. I mean, how many times can you blow up the fucking Death Star?
@GeahkBurchill9 жыл бұрын
Push Back Four times apparently. Four times in seven films. It's like a record. If I wanted something that unoriginal I would have bored myself to tears reading someone's gawd damn fan-fic. What got me most was regressing Solo back so that he was a pathetic old man trying to relive his glory days. Also, they pretend to have a strong female character but threw Leia (the actual strong female character) under the bus, making her into a doddering old woman who never accomplished anything.
@fkerpants9 жыл бұрын
Carrie Fisher had really nothing to do other than to stand around and look concerned. Han Solo, you know, the guy that helped blow up the first Death Star and also brought down an entire empire wound up smuggling characters that escaped from a Goosebumps book.

True enough. One thing that wasn't explained in this video was the fact that in the movie "Solo: A Star Wars Story" was that at the end of the movie, Han was well aware that when it came to playing Sabacc, that he knew Lando was also a bit of a cheater. By the time they meet up for the second time, Han knew about the extra card Lando kept in his sleeve, and secretly took it, forcing Lando to play (and lose) fair.
