Thoughts on skateboarding in the Olympics?! ALSO: Who's going to win? Men's/Women's Park/Street?! Let us know in the comments.

In 2024 I'd love to see Skateboard Big Air (The full Size MegaRamp with the 50, and 63- 70FT Gaps and 27FT. Tall Quarter Pipe just like at @xgames) (Also for BMX Freestyle) (The Olympics should put Danny Way, Bob Burnquist, Matt The Condor Hoffman, and Chad Kagy in charge of the events for Big Air since they know TON'S about it.) and I'd also like to see Skateboard Vert(It might be a good idea if they put Tony Hawk in charge for vert) Educated guesses on who I think may win in 2021: For Men's Street: Nyjah Huston(He's very dominant, has won allot in the past decade), Yuto Horigome (He's very good as well, and he'd be in his home country of Japan), For Men's Park: Pedro Barros (He's won allot over the past decade), Women's Street: Leticia Bufoni(I think she's hot) (She's won allot over the past 8 years), Aori Nishimura (She's won X Games at least once back in 2017 if I'm remembering correctly, She'd be in her home country), Women's Park: Brighton Zeuner (She's Won X Games a couple of times), Misugo Okamoto (She won X Games in 2019, She'd be in her home country)

Team USA and Team Japan both have ridiculous teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Nyjah gets a gold. I wouldn't be surprised if Nyjah does a ridiculous set but then Yuto shocks the world with a better set. I also wouldn't be surprised if Joslin hurts himself trying to get the gold. But while everyone's watching Team USA and Team Japan, I'm secretly hoping Team Brazil slides past them both to scoop the gold. They have the talent, and they have the style. Luan and Leticia are definitely getting a medal, and I'm stoked for them.

My favorite quote is “skating could never be a sport. There’s no way of cheating”. In my opinion skating is more artistic and can’t really be judged from a core level but I do think having it in the olympics is actually really beneficial. Skating will have a spotlight and finally get skaters the respect they deserve from the rich snobs who always looked down on skaters cuz they didn’t want to be in football or something. I also see no issue in having it as a comp sport cuz these pros are insane to watch. I just think people shouldn’t expect to become pro but rather do it for fun, which is what skating differs from sports in. It is not entirely competitive, it can be fun and expressive. Skaters don’t get into it feeling like they have to be the absolute best and compete their whole lives to be the best like any given sport. It is what you make it and it deserves much respect. I believe finally making it an Olympic game will show people this and get it’s long deserved respect. Maybe even encourage some countries to build more parks a even legalize skating where it is still illegal

I think it's absolutely AWESOME it's gotten included in the Olympic Games! In my opinion scoring is going to be somewhat difficult to make fair for all the competitors. Especially with the rules on equipment pretty much being wide open. Board material is of course an individual preference as well as wheels are a personal preference too but overall there are good and not so great boards and wheels and axles. There's possibility of an advantage a competitor could have over others because of the equipment they choose to roll on. The best part about this news that skating is now an Olympic sport is that we finally really have a sport that's actually exciting and fun to watch!

Much harder to judge. Your comment ignores Olympic BMX free form -- which is very like the Olympic skateboard events, in my opinion. In both free form sports the competitors are given points for subjective things like style and semi subjective things like how difficult the moves are. Turning to more traditional Olympic events, things like Dressage (part of the day eventing -- that's a horsey thing by the way) or synchro diving are similarly somewhat subjective

Its weird cause its definetly going to change the professional landscape but I think it will heavily affect the culture and change how some skaters see things I'm willing to bet more Its an art form will turn to freestyle more to keep away from that corporate Olympic feel but we'll likely see a large amount of skaters who will learn and come up on a nyjah like training as well as skateparks just exploding in size. And since I have a baby face security will let me keep skating if I lie and tell them it's my dream to be in Olympics even when every single kickflip flips nicely is only landed back foot on but also at the same time how many countries or corporations are going to start putting bigger places to train in the less than desirable situation with weather in alberta so it's like a give and take yknow I definitely express myself through skateboarding but like I said I do that more through freestyle plugging my headphones on listening to a mix and just dancing around the park and still trying to hit obstacles feels so good but at the same time I get really competive with the homies and I think the whole industry was for a while remember when pressure flips were cool not me cause they died in two years cause it was just getting stupid looking

Growing up in the 90s, in a small town in rural Pennsylvania, skateboarding was illegal. Cops would follow my friends and me around watching us to insure we didn't step on our boards, and we routinely got stopped and searched for illegal drugs or alcohol and our boards confiscated. Our closest park and skate shop was over an hour away. Seeing skateboarding in the Olympics is absolutely amazing and completely validating. People who trash it, and anyone who has become financially successful from skateboarding, are try-hards who see skateboarding as a fashion accessory rather than a unifying sport/hobby/whatever. These people never had to fear that their passion would be taken from them, or die altogether. I've seen the industry go from a meager fledgling to a booming industry, and I can say the more money going to your local skate shop, the better boards and equipment can be innovated. Don't be a try-hard. Support every successful skater, because without them, you wouldn't have that which you claim to care about. Cheers, and GO U.S.A. U.S.A. U.S.A.!

I’m 33 and skateboarding plus Olympics are words I have never heard together before. Actually kinda feels like a paradox. Just like legal herb I always felt like they would happen but at least another 20 years down the line. The whole rollerblade thing tho I’m positive was a south park episode. The fact this is where we started can only mean bad omens for the future. We’ll be talking about an Olympic curse before to long count on it

It’s gonna be one set of judges set by world skate (the rollerbladers). But I think they have judges from street league and Dew Tour etc... So hopefully it’s good! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

@@jeffkendel1570 new tricks, that's happened every day since the first skateboard was invented. Parks are not new and there's tons of tricks from the 80s and 90s that those guys can't/don't do. So different tricks aren't evolution they're just a sidestep. I wouldn't put the guys you mentioned above the legends of the last 40 years in terms of innovation or ability but they're special to you bc they're the first guys that impressed you. What's exciting today is old news tomorrow and in 20 years someone will do the same shit again and some other kid will think it's innovation.
