@@SilentHotdog28you should definitely come back!!! Nowadays we have so many more killers with insanely cool powers, and the balance between survivor and killer is insanely skill based. There’s plenty of gen regression and pacing perks, and it slows games immensely and allows any good killers to Catch up. Survivors are still pretty strong in groups, but definitely not Like they used to be. I extremely recommend if you return to start using doctor or huntress, and then work your way into more fun killers like the licenses etc. as you get better

It’s so ridiculous. I’ve been playing this game 7 years. Killer is extremely difficult at higher level matches. YoU have to really focus. But as survivor at higher level Matches sometimes I can literally snooze to victory where missed skill checks wake me up from dozing off lol. Not to Mention I only use trapper and Michael so it’s even harder. Before the anti camping mechanic I had a camping strategy with myers that would destroy teams constantly. But I can’t camp anymore. I really don’t understand why Michael isn’t built in such a way that makes him the strongest killer in the game. It seems that survivors, myself included, actually have fun in matches against Michael even when they end up dying because at least Michael still retains the horror aspect of the game with creepiness and jumpscares.

It's amazing how quickly BHVR moves when one of its devs is publicly shamed. If you haven't already, consider covering the history of color blind settings in DBD. One chap made a daily post on the subreddit for AGES saying "X days of me posting without BHVR implementing colorblind settings" until the infamous Almo incident. Up until then people thought he/she was just being annoying. Then they got completely vindicated. What happened here with Cote I can look back on with fondness, because it is pretty funny and he ate crow with grace (and he wasn't bullying disabled people.) The latter incident ... not so much.

This was soon followed by known twitch streamer Steven Spohn (who is a disabled gamer himself and a huge advocate for accessibility options in games who has organised a lot of charity work) basically calling out Almo and BHVR for it saying if they were tired of always being asked about it, then just imagine how tired the actual players unable to play the game due to lack of accessibility options. The tweet blew up, and articles started being written. BHVR feeling the pressure then within a few hours announced that a colorblind mode was already in the pipeline for months and showed an example mockup of it. This was something players had been asking for since launch with either radio silence or just dismissal but the moment their public image was actually in danger from it they suddenly acknowledged it and had all this supposed work completed in the background.

I will never feel bad for Matheiu getting destroyed in the game. The devs were LONG overdue for some humbling after they patted themselves on the back for so long when listening to the survivor praises. They admitted they don't play the game so don't have any actual gameplay experience. The old DbD was a joke and while the current one is far from perfect, at least the devs seem like they're "trying" I do, however, feel bad about the unprofessionalism of the event. The hosts seemed cruel with their mocking but Matheiu handled himself super well in the face of it all. But then, maybe he needed that double kick down before something would be done about it. Who knows. Still don't like the dude tho. This is still the guy who told his player base to "play another game" and shouted "what do you want from us?" when the community mentioned all the issues with his game.

The unfortunate thing about game development is that changes like this need someone to push for them. Something like flashlight balancing was probably marked as low priority even when they knew it was an issue so unless someone in the company or at least close to a dev is regularly asking for updates, it's not something that would get done that quickly.

The fact that it also made your screen darker meant that you'd be walking by survivors all the time. They wouldn't need flashlights, you just wouldn't be able to see. Also, it used to make your screen *darker* as you got rarer versions of the perk, meaning you probably only wanted the baseline version at most.

I love this story, and I will never get tired of hearing it. It really shows how BHVR were completely and utterly out of touch with both their community and their own game back in the day. They were unwilling to do anything at all about insta-blind flashlights and just content to let killer players suffer through it. UNTIL the lead game developer himself was humiliated and bullied into oblivion with the very thing the community was saying was problematic in front of both a live and online audience while trying to promote the game; RIGHT AFTER saying that the advantage it provided was negligible. And what do you know? The very next patch, it's immediately addressed. I'm glad that they learned from this and that in 2023, they're actually listening to the people who play their game.

You think that's nuts? Look up insta-generators. Back in DBD's early years, Brand New Parts add-on would repair gens completely from 0 to 100% the very frame you used it. You didn't even need to do skill checks, it was truly instant. You can guess really easily what a squad with 4 of them would look like.

I think this is a good point that sometimes really negative events can help smack people back into the reality of the situation. Had these changes not gone through, the game may have died due to the game running out of killer players willing to handle this torment without switching to Nurse. I remember playing back then and it was a nightmare even without the instablinds. The vacuum pallets and infinites HAD to go to get DbD to survive to the present day as well. All of it combined was just too bullshit to take in.

With certain addons, but yes (it's a red bar, so it was being slowed down from its native speed at the time) Killers were seriously that slow in general. Trapper had to wait 4 years to be able to not lose his entire power from some toolboxes, or to reset a trap without picking it up first. It used to be something like 5 seconds to set a beartrap. And you could only carry one at a time, basekit. And BNPs were just press button complete generator. And you saw how slow it was to break pallets? Killer just *looking* at the pallet for a solid second before actually moving?

You forgot to mention: Back in the day, killers pick up animation was SUPER slow, combined with the crazy fact that survivors could flashlight during the animation AT ANY TIME! They didn't even need to time it, as long as they blinded the killer PERIOD during the pickup animation, they got the save....

I remember this time. I have always mained killer and during this time the game was a nightmare when you got to high ranks. This crap happened every match so running lightborn became a necessity to try and buy you a little bit of time to not get insta-blinded. Lightborn btw was not what is was today, it didn't make you immune to flashlights, it made your resistance to being blinded increased and your recovery was also increased but it dimmed your field of view. Ironic how a tool that shines light brought upon a dark time for the game.

Funny I played a game as killer today that was exactly like Matheiu's. Constant insta blinds. But I know they were hackers, their flashlights lasted over a minute with only a single battery and no item related perks. It was not a fun match, it's clear their only goal was to bully me into dc'ing, I got the last laugh though as I was able to kill them all thanks to basement hooks. blocker, MrFiretown, Magix and miseyl were their names, all on pc .

To be fair, Cote was put into a position where he HAD to play that match. As soon as that match ended, BHVR was in a lose/lose in terms of what the player base would think on next patch. If we assume that they had the changes being prepared, either A) they waited on those changes to avoid the suspicion and risked Killer players being (rightfully) upset or B) they did what they did and let Cote be made fun of for the greater good of balancing the game. If they didn't have it planned, well, certainly that match was an eye-opener for Cote, and I'm sure he would've been like "We need instablinds to go, the Killer players have been complaining for far too long and they were proven right when I got brutally bullied live." and if there was resistence from the Balancing team, I'm sure he would've played the "Then how about you all go play Killer as well, see if you actually think instablind are healthy for the game." and then we got the removal. Regardless, I still think that we should shame the Devs into playing DBD in high skill settings more often, especially as Killer, because Survivors have a much louder voice in the community than Killers, and I think that the Devs have a bit of a bias because of it.

I think the game needs a punishment system for toxic survivors as well. Unhooking when the killer facecamps was a good first step but nothing is more annoying then toxic survivor. When a killer facecamps you know at least 2 if not 3 survivors escape. It's kind of a trade for being annoyed by a facecamper. However there is no downside to being a toxic survivor aside from maybe having one person less on a generator. Excessive tbagging, flash light clicking and fast vaulting far away from the killer should be limited or faces with negative consequences
