How One Misclick Destroyed Thousands of Hours of Work

Imagine spending 2,100 hours working on a project. For 12 hours a day you’re sitting at your computer chipping away at a passion project you’ve put your heart and soul into.
And then just like that, the equivalent of 87 days or almost three months of non-stop work - gone, in an instant.
That’s exactly what happened to B0aty, the rockstar of Runescape.
When it comes to Runescape, B0aty is a loveable a--hole known for being an OG content creator with a hilariously twisted relationship with his community.
And if you didn’t know Runescape’s an almost 20-year-old point and click RPG where you level up your character, complete quests and kill a ton of stuff.
And for the few years, B0aty’s been running what’s known as Hardcore Ironman account.
It basically means you decided that you hate yourself and you want to make things as difficult as possible.
The whole idea is that you only get one life. If you die that’s it. No do-overs you gotta start from scratch.
To be clear, if you die, it’s not like developer Jagex deletes your account - you keep everything that you’ve accumulated. But your hardcore status goes out the window, and you can no longer contribute to leaderboards.
And for guys like B0aty, guys who hilariously ban people from chat over the slightest infraction and have hardcore bragging rights - that status means everything.
On his most recent account, running a character named OzyNamDied, B0aty put 2,100 hours of work into his build.
That’s almost three months of grinding, 87 days of being PERFECT at one of the most difficult modes in an already obtuse game.
And with one miss click chat watched in gleeful horror as his perfect Hardcore record went out the window.

Literally everyone needs to go watch the Gielenor Games...the series is incredible and I can already tell other games and communities will try to replicate. Made my Twitch account almost a decade ago, back when it was justin.tv just to watch b0aty. The guy is a blessing to the gaming space, really nice and self-aware person who is also so charitable. I think he raised like 200k or more across three different fundraisers over three years, which is a great achievement for any streamer, but for a community that was as small as Old School Runescape's at the time, it's absolutely insane. His community is one of the best I've seen and it's crazy to see how strong of a community he built just through his stream his alone. You can visit his Twitch channel at any time and his chat will be active pretty much. I hope this could also be an opened door into more OSRS related content because there's a lot you could cover. Woox is definitely the most obvious one, with everything he's achieved in the game but I'd also like to see a story of OSRS video too. I'm sure the OSRS team would be happy to help you guys with it because of how open and communicative they are about the game. The dev team has been a beacon of light for players and many other games have taken notice, with the community ideas/feedback system, the voting system where updates need 75% of the community approval, the weekly dev Q&A streams and more. However, it's not all been smooth sailing with some major problems along the way, it's really been a rollercoaster of many ups and huge downs.
