How OP would a Swords Dance Marowak be in Pokemon Yellow?

Marowak didn't learn Swords Dance in Gen 1 (Crazy, right?). But what is we used a Gen 2 tradeback to test this Pokemon in Gen 1. We all know Gen 1 hates Ground-types, but could one move be enough?

~~Rules~~
-Solo Challenge: No other Pokemon in battle, no items in battle, no glitches exploits (other than badge boost glitch)
*IF team faints, we can faint HM pokemon to blackout*
-No Vitamins
-0 DVs/0 IVs
-Tradeback: Disobedience and enhanced EXP gain

Scoring:
-Pokemon Starts with a score of 100 points.
-Minus 0.1 points per reset (10 resets = 1 point)
-Minus 0.25 points per optional battle (4 optional battles = 1 point)
-Minus 1 point per TM (Excluding Broken TMs)
-Minus 10 points per Broken TM (Double Team, Substitute, Mimic, Rest, Bide, Toxic)

Process:
Every Pokemon goes through 3 separate tests:
1. Minimum Battles
2. No TMs
3. Optimization for score on the tier-list
Standard Rules:
1. 0 DVs/ 0 IVs (Worst Possible Stats).
2. No Items in Battle.
3. No Stat Boosting Vitamins (HP Up, Carbos, Iron, Calcium, Protein).
4. No other Pokemon in battle (HM Mules allowed outside of battle).
5. Timer STARTS when I select New Game, and ENDS when the Champion is defeated.
6. Required Battles are the 65 battles that cannot be avoided without glitches (See Jrose11's original Minimum Battles video.
7. Pokedoll Glitch is a glitch and therefore banned.
8. Brock Through Walls is banned.
9. Badge Boost Glitch is allowed without restrictions.
10. Save states for routing and catching HM Pokemon only.
11. No wild encounters, except to catch HM Pokemon.

As a general rule, I do all Gen 2 tradebacks with disobedience. Though I could try it just adding Swords Dance once we get the TM I. Silph without Disobedience as a comp

Marowak was unironically one of my favorite Pokemon as a kid. I raised a genuine dragon killer out of a thick club monster with as much defense and attack boosting as the game would let me. It's nice to see it getting some limelight.

In all honestly, I would think of Marowak as normal and fighting. O_o Anything that burrows would be ground: Onyx (ground/rock), Sandshrew family, etc. Geodude to me would be rock (not even ground).

This certainly could have been the case. None of the pure Ground types got a 3rd stage, which was a bit weird, since most types had at least one 3-stage evolutionary line

Oh damn, I beat Rival 1 didn't I? I simply use the ultimate Pokemon randomizer and set the trainer ID to a different value in Gamehook but my usual rule is to not get exp on the Rival 1 fightm. messed up 😂

I unironically really like Marowak. Just a neat design, and while its Special blows, I still made a Special Marowak for a Red run once upon a time. (That was a run...Special Rhydon, Special Marowak, Sandslash, Arcanine, Nidoking, and Charmeleon. It was a terrible team from a balance and moveset standpoint - hi, everything weak to Water! - but they were all stupidly overleveled so it didn't matter.) I think that run is basically the only way Marowak makes it on minimum battles - with Swords Dance and extra experience. I don't know if it could pull it off with non-trade experience, even with SD. The Kanto gyms being mostly special types are really a problem for Marowak, whose special is so poor. It would fare a lot better against Johto gyms because of its formidable defenses, really only having trouble against the last two (and by then it might have enough of a level advantage to find a way). Of course, I don't think it deals any better with the Kanto gyms in Gen 2, either...but at least it's a cool Pokémon, it'll always have that going for it.

I agree, the extra experience was massive, without it, we're not outspeeding that Jynx, because we needed the Aurora Beam for an extra badge boost even with the extra EXP. The design was awesome, and I think Thick Club helps it a ton in Gen 2.

You could avoid water gun. The TM is not worthy and it would give 1 more point. Without the desobedience, marowak would have a score higher than 90.

I agree on both points. I think adding Mega Punch made sense since with disobedience we have a higher chance to use a different move and that can affect things a bit. Without Disobedience, Lance is still a major wall, but yeah

I might be a simpleton but how come no one ever runs swift for silph rival to make sure you can get through accuracy also since it works to badge boost against Sabrina aswell

The issue is that Swift is not particularly strong - only 60 power as opposed to basically anything else at that point being much stronger.

@RBYPokemonChallenges It is base 60 power however with badge boost from Abra's flash or set up while getting sand attacked *in the rare case you know a set up move by then* it can be a relatively powerful move with %100 accuracy. It has its uses if you get into a tight spot. I'm just more curious if the time to go get it and teach it is so much slower than the time it takes to reset a few times to those fights averages out

Item hexadecimal 07 is ????? Surf at any time anywhere. It allows you to access the Dream Eater TM early, fight Lt. Surge before Misty, access the Power Plant early, skip Pokemon Tower, access Cinnabar Island early, and the water in Route 23 after getting the first 4 badges.

Marowak's run wasn't op at all like it could have been on paper. Once disobedience had stuck Ghostymama, you couldn't do much,but hopefully getting by some battles by luck alone almost. It started with Misty,then Erika and Lorelei and Lance were the final straw for the viability of a minimum battles runs. In the end it was possible,but it took too much time and resets to do that. Professor Oak is a legend for being able to catch a ghost in a single try.😂😂😂 You gotta love these gen 1 shenanigans being all over the place.😂😂

Super effective rock slide = earthquake or gen 1 dig AFTER stab Good for flying types but not as reliable because of accuracy is lower on rock slide

Even on the ice, bug and flying types, Hyper Beam is the same power as Rock Slide, so it really only helps against Aerodactyl specifically.

There's people claiming that Marowak should've been ground/ghost, but I don't see that type combo as feasible since it's still very much alive. It's only the Pokemon Tower mother Marowak that's dead.
