(if any of you rises from his bed and later returns to it, let him dust off his bed with his waist garment three times and mention the Name of Allah, for he does not know what may have entered the bed after him, and when he lies down he should say: Bismillah) 2) اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ. Allahumma qinee AAathabaka yawma tabAAathu AAibadak. O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the day Your servants are resurrected. (Abu Dawud 4:311)

All of this is not necessary. Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) slept like this. But you will get rewarded if you follow the Prophet. And there is no problem if you end up on your back. But sleeping on your stomach is forbidden.
