Kit Fisto was actually an extremely powerful Jedi. Right before he was killed, he sensed that Anakin arrived at the building, which caused him to hesitate for a split second, which Palpatine used to his advantage.

In the novelization, Palpatine first records his conversation with the Jedi Master, he acts innocent and frightened playing his part for the recording, lulling the Jedi into a false sense of security. He then uses the force to activate and throw his hidden saber through the desk and the recorder, into the head of one of the Jedi, he simultaneously activates his other saber and leaps into an attack, killing the second. (Masters Tinn & Kolar)He duels with Fisto and Windu briefly after cutting down Fisto, duels Windu to a draw (or so it seems) Windu believed that he had the upper-hand due to the amount of fear he was sensing from Palpatine, whereas unbeknownst to him, it was Anakin's fear that Palpatine had been channeling, Just before Anakin betrays him, Windu realizes that palpatine was never afraid and is sent out the window. After Anakin's arrival and intervention, he used a doctored version of the recording to convince the Senate of the Jedi's betrayal.

Not nearly as fast as DBZ but really fast none the less. So it goes like this. Even little shit Jedi can easily deflect a laser beam right? It's very basic shit to them. Which means that even as a base knowledge they have a very good reaction time and reflex. Now in order to be in the Jedi Council you have to be extremely talented. We seen how they can move faster than lightning. As for fighting I'm not exactly sure but I know that they are faster than the speed of the sound. So take all that into account when you see this scene. Here 2 of the council members couldn't even see Palpatine move from his spot because he was that fucking fast. They only knew what's happening because they felt a sudden pain before they died. And than Fisto a very talented very famous Jedi Master very skilled and a strong Force user could barely block his attacks and after about 3 strike he died as well. After that Windu were amplified by the hate (Dark Side) Palpatine used in the fight which gave him so much boost that he was almost on even levels with Palpi. In the screen of course they had to slow it down so we could see what's happening. It's the same thing in Dragon Ball really. Remember when Goku and Freeza fought? They were so fast we couldn't see their movements yet in Dragon Ball Super every fight is slow as hell. So if we would believe in our eyes only we would say that they were MUCH faster in Super which is ridiculous isn't it?

While maybe clumsy on itself, I actually enjoyed that fight, as for the first time it showed how Palpatine is actually strong. It is more of an iconic fight, rather than a well directed one. The end of Windu and Palpatine's last stand with force lighting was also very engaging.

It is only how it relates to other power levels that give it any context. 3. It would have been very intense and enchanting to depict this scene exactly as the authors envisioned it. Fighting shadows drifting in and out of sight and lightning speed reflexes would be a much more accurate portrayal of the power of the Sith. This could have been done beautifully with 20th century movie technology, the prequels debacle has no excuse to suck so bad...

The way I think that the fight should have been done is to combine both the novelization’s depiction of the battle as well as how it was portrayed in the movie. The way I see this being done is through different perspectives: from Mace and Palpatine’s perspectives, the fight would look more normal since they are equal in terms of power, and therefore able to follow each other’s movements more effectively; however, this would change whenever the perspective would cut from that of Anakin or the other masters (with a slight exception with Kit Fisto), all that would be seen is various flashes of light with Mace and Palpatine occasionally phasing into focus.

In the novel, Sidious also uses trickery to help get rid of them. While still in the guise of Palpatine, he convinced one to briefly lower his guard and took the opportunity to behead said Jedi Master using a lightsaber throw.

While I agree with this, I have another theory... Palpatine was holding back. He unleashed his full power against the first three masters - but he held back against Windu because he knew Anakin would return. He wanted to put Windu into a possition where it would look as if he were winning, so when Anakin arrived Palpatine could play the role as the victim of a Jedi Coup - therefore adding legitimacy to Palpatine's own claims about the Jedi being corrupt.

Windu was using shatter point throughout the fight and followed the one possibility that looked the most promising because he could sense Anakin near as well. Windu actually said, "The chosen one is here." Which is really amazing because as we know Mace never acknowledged Anakin as the chosen one until moments before his death when he thought Anakin was there to destroy the Sith. Very powerful stuff

I actually agree with this theory more, mainly because people always forget that Palpatine also had visions of the future...which is how he was able to plan his uprising so perfectly and the demise of the Jedi. He had to allow Anakin the opportunity to make a choice in between him and Windu with his wife's life hanging in the balance. This is how he knew of the dreams Anakin was having and how he was able to take advantage of it. If he had just defeated Windu, then Anakin might have still gone against him, instead of fully going over to the darkside.

Most of the Jedi in this time period have never fought against a sith. In the clone wars they fought against blasters not lightsabers so they didn't have a lot of practice fighting a real fight with lightsabers. They fought other jedi with lightsagbers but that was just for practice they wren't trying to actually kill each other.

Lucas directed some fantastic sabre fights in the prequels, but was seemingly unable to direct one decent killing blow. I mean, all of them were terrible; Qui-Gon gets tapped in the face and then game over? Even though he bitch-slapped Maul off a ledge moments earlier? It looks so stupid. Maul gets cut in two whilst standing there like a lemon. Plenty of time to react, but instead - Lemon. Obi-Wan gets jabbed in the arm and leg by Dooku. Palpatine makes orgasm faces whilst wildly stabbing in a fashion any trained swordsman could deflect, but somehow ends up impaling two Jedi Masters as if he'd caught them with their knobs out at the Senate urinal. Mace randomly kicks Palps lightsabre out his hand and Palp collapses on the floor like a noob (ok, I will kinda accept this one as Palpatine throwing the duel in order to tempt Anakin. Still looks stupid, though) Obi-Wan defeats Anakin by "having the high ground," despite that not helping Maul one bit when Obi-Wan cut him in half. It really wasn't that great an advantage. All those are parts in otherwise incredible duels. I don't get why Lucas managed to direct such great fights, but always failed on delivering a convincing killing blow.

I had a version of this figured out on my own: Palpatine could control the perception of time of his victims. His opponents would not know that they had slowed down, they would see Palpatine as having sped up! Easy victory if you can play with your opponents sense of time. I don't think the description the novel gave means they'd be sightless lights, what you're fairly describing is like the fight scenes in Dragonball Z however I think, this is my humble opinion, the closet visual look to go with that speed's description is the Force Unleashed's gameplay, when Starkiller is a blur but every now and then he's striking a pose as he slices...THAT is how they could have done it :P

You should've also mentioned and hinted at Palpatine being disarmed during his fight with Yoda in Revenge Of The Sith. Which would explain why we saw them battling in one scene while in the next scene cut inbetween Yoda Vs Palpatine and Vs Anakin and Obi Wan Kenobi, that Palpatine switched from Lightsabre fighting to outright force using instead. Both Mace Windu and Yoda finding ways to compete if not match Palpatine in Lightsabre dueling, other Jedi's not being so lucky etc.

*Here's how I would have changed it,* fixing the most fundamental flaws of the fight: -It begins the same, "I am the senate" and so on. The Jedi approach to arrest Palpatine. - Palpatine begins by blasting lighting from his hands and shocking the 4 Jedi masters, pushing them against the wall of the room. (This shows Palpatine's sheer power with the force and it being his preferred form of attack) -Cutting to Anakin approaching in his ship, the audience sees the windows of the Chancellor's office lit up with flashing blue light in the far distance. - Mace is able to recover, blocking the lighting with his lightsaber and slowly approaches Palpatine, with Kit, Tin and Kolar doing the same not long after, while lightning continues to arc from Palpatine's hands. - Palpatine, realizing that he could not hold the 4 of them, pulls out his lightsaber and the fight begins. - Palpatine evades Mace's strike and does his neat little torpedo spin across the room towards Agen Kolar, impaling the weakest of the four. - The rest continue to fight Palpatine as it cuts to Anakin landing his ship. - It cuts back to Tin with Palpatine's lightsaber through his chest, falling to the ground. Fact Free I feel as if Legends made them OVER powered, compared to the other movies, shows and games. Even the 2003 Clone Wars and The Force Unleashed games didn't show such power, and though they did push a few limits, it's still not nearly as much.

When I think of Star Wars, I think of space battles with laser guns and lightsabers, not freaking superpowers like the Flash or Wonder Woman. I'm just piecing together an answer that is most supported by all sources in star wars, as well as what makes sense and is repeated in other stories. Although it's true that the movies technically go above everything else, they can sometimes lead to "plot holes" or events that aren't fully depicted properly due to budget/technology/time restraints. the theory in this video about purple lighsaber and some BS about speed fight...come on guys, you really dont know it is a nonsence and the saber is purple simply because Samuel L. Jackson want it to be purple? The killing of those Jedi Masters was simply a lame part of the movie that cannot be justified. Also I doubt Palpatine is that fast. Yoda was roughly as strong in the Force as Palpatine, and was a much better lightsaber duelist, but Palpatine was far more fluid in his use of the Force, and had more Force abilities at his disposal. Plus, Yoda's extreme age greatly reduced his stamina, so he ended leaving the fight once he became too tired to continue.

The reason the fight in the movie was weak, was because they only had three days to film it! They were on a tight schedule, and something to do with Ian's stunt double, so he had to film the lightsaber duel himself. I bet if they had more time it would have been epic, like Yoda vs Palpatine.

Palpatine had plot armor, that's all. He even tried to run like a scared little bitch before he fought with Yoda, and during that fight he spent most of the time cackling like he's trying to audition for a Wizard of Oz remake. Even at the end of that fight, Yoda overpowers him. You can see the "Oh shit, I'm screwed" on his face as his lightning trick fails, before the explosion blows them both back. I know the novel goes into all sorts of detail here, but what's on screen makes Palpatine kinda like Voldemort in his duel with Dumbledore. He's outmatched. They draw, but he never has the upper hand.
