@Zoomjah
@Zoomjah 3 жыл бұрын
I think Mirror's Edge did a great job at showing the world parkour, but it feels so linear. Even the second game feels a mixture of linear and very grindy. The story is dope, but it'd be beautiful to see a game that somehow fuses Parkour with like Tony Hawk, without the skateboard. But the thing is, it seems like at its root, parkour is all about fusing with other aspects of life. The only thing I could see having more of like a Tony Hawk feeling, would be a like gym-centered and rooftops parkour game, which is about wracking up score and speedruns, perhaps with some back story to the parkour scenes. But it seems hard to make that flare really stand out in a video game, and not just feel like a simple sports game. Thats where the fantasy aspect has clearly excelled in making it more like in Assassin's Creed. I do agree with Jimmy though, that it would definitely be cool to have more parkour-centered story-lines, that show the struggle between the thrill and the public's mixed feelings towards the sport. Games are at their best when there is a balance between having what you want, and what you can't.

Not gonna lie, Assassin's Creed introduced me to the concept of parkour and the first real life parkour video I saw was from RonnieStreetStunts it blew my mind, I never knew it was possible to do the things I saw in the games and then I was like I want to do this, and that's how I got into parkour weirdly enough.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was the game that got me into skating, I've learned trick names, pro athletes and the entire culture of it. I used to follow every THPS game since. Eventually I found out about parkour and was enjoying it a bit more, and my biggest dream was to someone finally made a "parkour version of THPS". It didn't happen sadly, so we had to make our own ways like GTA:SA parkour mod.

My favorite integration of parkour into first person shooters was Titanfall! That game was so smooth to play, and the maps were built in a way that real parkour ‘vision’ or creative ideas would work! It was so interactive, and COD pretty much ripped it and didn’t do as good creating fluid movement

Jimmy this video was BEAUTIFULLY editted, I just found your channel and I have to say I'm loving it so far. This brought back alot of nostalgia for me, I'm a late 90s baby who grew up in the 2000s and Assassin's creed is my all time favourite game franchise, this is the stuff I grew up on playing. Any time I think of parkour I immediately think of Assassin's creed and the first time I played it as a kid, how it immersed and captured me into the game with everything you outlined in the video from the smooth movement, parkour skills and death defying stunts etc. I remember going out as a boy, trying to mimic all the skills and moves I seen in the game (except the killing of course 🤣). Very well done this really takes me back

If I could, I would create a parkour game with the help of Storror. We would use motion capture suits to record some unique moves (like the double kong by Tobey or 360 dive roll of Drew etc), meanwhile we could create some iconic Parkour areas like Imax at Waterloo (once I made it with blender it was fun). And the stories could be some silly bullshit like in the old GTA games, our Parkour guy got in trouble, start to work for the London maffia as a thief or something which needs parkour to be honest the story doesnt matter if the gaming experience is fun and creative. Unfortunatelly I only know blender, I dont have motion capture suits or expensive computers to work with them ... also I don't know the Storror guys either. Fuck its not the best plan im afraid...

Amazing Video! Actually I'm not sure if I would've liked Skate 3 more with a better story (It's the game I played for the longest time in my life). Because I just loved it to skate around and set challenges for myself. As I do it in real life Parkour. I think that the next Parkour Video Game should take a lot from Skate 3 when it comes to controls. Because it gave it more diversity. And this exactly is what a Parkour game needs. Diversity: The possibility to make slightly off axis Kong Gainers or something like that. If you have this it feels more realistic. Just some thoughts I have because I'm waiting for a good Parkour game since I played "Free Running" back in 2009 or so. I thought about this topic a lot of times. Keep your great Content up and let's jam together if you ever visit Switzerland. :D

@@burntgrass8066 I actually doubt that. Skating and gaming are bigger markets, yes, but do they reward quality content? Does any sub-market on youtube today? In my eyes there is no chance for quality content - "the algorithm" rewards mediocre clickbait. It's about producing something quickly that is just barely good enough to watch. That's the bar and there's no (commercial) reward for going over it. A hidden advantage this channel has is that nobody else is making content like this about parkour. Because Jimmy has no competition he can afford to produce quality! There's no giant clickbait machine drowning his infrequent videos out. If there were he would live in its shadow and maybe have the same size, maybe even shrink. If the parkour audience were bigger there's a real risk that several other channels would copy his formula but produce lower quality content way faster than he can. You'd be suggested those in the sidebar, you'd find them when you search for parkour videos manually, and you'd use up your "youtube parkour viewing time" with them - and never find Jimmy. Bad stuff won't be watched, good stuff takes too long to make. Mediocrity with an exciting title and thumbnail is the sweet spot.

@@forasago I think there are other ways to get views, look at mark rober, he posts high quality videos once a month and has over 10 mil. People click because they know it’ll be good. While there are channels like 5 min crafts that have mastered this mediocrity content farm, higher quality content will still work to attract more people.

I'm hoping Storror teams up with someone to make a game. Explore the city, locate a spot, sneak past the guards if it's a rooftop, figure out the line or set challenges, do it, edit a video if you want, then run away. Also street competitions and non strictly parkour challenges, like the side challenges in Trials. Multiple characters that you can switch whenever, and a focus on the group. I haven't played RDR2 but it seems that aspect is done well there, so something like that. Develop your guys while earning reputation and money. A main story like the NBA/Fifa modes would ok, although improvable.

It would be awesome if in a Parkour Game, we would start out just beginning to learn parkour. So the first few levels you could only do precisions, cats, climbs and voults. But then when you become good at that and finish enough challenges, your skill tree evolves. Then you can frontflip, sideflip and backflip. Then you would go onto different challenges and learn even more step by step. Would be sick to go through this in famous spots, like start out in a backyard and then move on to travelling the world training parkour. Could have challenges such as making a video, where you set up the virtual camera and do the action to try and make it feel like oldschool youtube. There is actually so much that could be done and honestly I am here for it!

Also as an animator myself (2D but still xD) I noticed that other animators have a hard time understanding the physics of parkour. I made a parkour film myself and it's hard to have the movements feel real while at the same time animating in a way that's appealing and easy to read. Also 3D animation is pretty young so it kinda evolved alongside parkour as well so it explains why the games that involve parkour gradually became better at it haha

you could go through iconic changes in parkour history and have that be the story the games about . there's a lot of family and friend drama also so that could be interesting.

I would like it to have like some character selection where you can select teams like phat, what, storror, gup, motusproj, etc, and obviously spots like imax, and more iconic places, man, we need to expand this wholesome and amazing culture

It would be so cool to make a game where you mix parkour with Ally Law style sneaking into buildings in London to get to the top. I feel like one could do a lot of cool stuff with that especially once the security spots you and you have to escape

hi, video game developer and parkour practitioner here. I can tell that in recent years, a lot of animators reference a lot of parkour videos as to develop more fluid movements in the animation. We even refer the term 'having more parkour elements' into the games that we build. My wish is that we developers hire more parkour/freerunners for motion capture , this would definitely help parkour and freerunners is looking for a way to sustain themselves.

A story line about somebody traveling around the world unblocking and going to the most iconic spots and trying to do legendary jumps while evading security and the police would be sick

you should do a video on teamgym, this would be so entertaining, because in teamgym they do crazy flips. it is kind of like gymnastics but less strict, ive seen triple straigts on airtracks, quadruple flip from a mini tramp and loads of crazy other things

the voxel scene would make an excellent tutorial zone. set as a kid in the correct time training, then as you progress time moves on, new tricks/moves are unlocked inline to period correct time and new spots until modern day.

Mirror's Edge is my favorite game of all time, such beautiful visuals and fluid movement. It's always great to see people talk about such an underrated game.

if there was a game made, i feel like you could have different free runners like there are different cars in forza. All cars drive, but its about how. With free runners, you can get different famous or unique athletes that all interact with the environment in unique ways, and have different advantages/disadvantages. It could be a really cool thing

you know world chase tag has to go in that game, would be an insane side mission feature, almost like races in gta V. Also i wouldn't be against a game purely focusing on movement like how skater xl and session focus on nothing but the skateboarding and the skateboarding alone because the satisfaction you get from landing your trick actually compares to landing your trick in real life.

Mirror's Edge is one of my all time favourite games, I replay it at least twice a year, I've probably beaten it about 15 times at least. The atmosphere, the visuals, stunning!

Take everything great about Jet Set Radio, music, graffiti, story, add in parkour instead of rollerblades, and there you go

I did! More times than I dare to admit😁 Both before I started parkour and much more after I started. I love the game so much with the storyline and I expected vector 2 to be better but it kind of wasn't with all d laser, mines teleporting and stuff. I'd always recommend the game to any parkour athlete especially beginners
