The worst thing about being a Browns fan right now is … we just don’t even know who’s making decisions. Berry? Depo? Jimmy?
@MinisterManDan7 сағат бұрын
Anytime you don't know who is making the decision, you actually do know: it's the owner. Strong orgs with clear chains of command have people taking credit. Orgs where the owner makes all the key decisions have a smoke screen and tons of people with different job titles to mask the owner's involvement to avoid blame. This is Jimmy's show. It has been since he bought it. He's deeply stupid.

Moneyball was about saving a cheap ass organization money and hoping that the product they put out could win. The NFL has a salary cap and puts every team on an equal, financial footing. DePodesta isn't a good fit in the NFL.

@joericottone8 сағат бұрын
Well he fired Alex Van Pelt, or at least lobbied to other people to do so which undermines Kevin Stefanski - a coach historically sets his staff up himself, so it’s a massive overreach. A lot of what I’m saying is me inferring, but that bit is 100% true
@billosters81628 сағат бұрын
Just last year this team was viewed as a Super Bowl contender. But the Watson gamble blew up and Chubb was injured. In reality the Browns made one bug mistake in Watson, a gamble that Atlanta , Miami, and others were willing to take. Now fans want to fire everyone, blow up the team, and start yet again. Yes the team has holes, but it's also loaded with talented players. Retool, certainly. Clean house, hell no!

@mkl544847 минут бұрын
You're really only partially right, it all comes from the owner. The owner is 100% to blame for everything, he makes the decisions, he signs the checks, he has the responsibility. And this owner stinks and is clueless on how to run a football team.

Football is not 1s and 0s. It's Xs and Os. Look at Dallas and Cleveland and compare them to Detroit. Ownership who think they know football and are overbearing vs a football guy like Dan Campbell. Who knows the game. Kevin knows the game, let him do the thing.

The Browns are a cursed team. When Cleveland got a new team, the LAST thing they should have named it was the "Browns". I know to someone in Cleveland thinks that the most absurd thing they've ever heard but it's true. The Browns were named after Paul Brown...who was fired. He left, went to Cincinnati and created the Bengals, using the same colors. The only time anyone EVER saw Paul Brown cry was when his team BEAT the Browns. He was personally offended that they kept the name. That team went on to struggle and eventually left, changing the name and moving to Baltimore where that team is GOOD, having won a few titles. The city of Cleveland has NO claim to that name as the Brown family STILL owns the Bengals. I know, next you'll say it's a "tribute" or something stupid like that but it's pale in loo of how TERRIBLE this team has CONSISTENTLY been. The team needs a complete BRAND change. They should have named them anything...frankly, I think the Cleveland FIRE sounds better or the Cleveland ROCKERS...anything but the Browns.
@bryan-still-a-poker-player7 сағат бұрын
Gtfoh, I grew up on the 1980's browns. A cleveland team not named the browns? Get outta here. The city and the people in it, even surrounding cities, people from rival cities all fought so that we could keep the name, colors and records here. Where they belong. All the real browns fans feel the same. I feel sorry for other fans that don't have the same type of connection to their team. We are generations old, it's in our blood, born and raised and that's how we like it. Do not tell us what our team should be.

100%. All conjecture. And misrepresenting certain aspects of DePo’s tenure and decisions. Disappointing to see such wild conjecture calling for someone’s job. My man Joey just became another Cleveland sports fanatic hovering over the big red button every single week.
@joericottone7 сағат бұрын
Tell me where the conjecture is - other than the areas where I openly admit that I have nothing to back up what I am saying - he fired AVP, he continually talks about process, continually talks about “finding value where it isn’t apparent to others” - I’m sharing my opinions in this, and at least my outlandish takes are interesting, you won’t find someone else who made the Hatteberg/Watson comparison, if I was like the others id be saying the same things as them
@Itsalwayscloudyincleveland7 сағат бұрын
@ this is just the first five minutes bud - “DePodesta has made the bulk of the macro decisions in Cleveland.” No backing for this. - “DePodesta fired AVP.” Breer made it clear that DePo AND ownership were unhappy with Deshauns progress. We have no idea how the decision took form. - “2023 wasnt about the analytics or Depodesta’s 5 year plan.” I think building a roster deep enough to carry an QB to a playoff run despite a plethora of key injuries is part of the plan. - “2023 was about the coaching.” And who was it that banged the table for the Browns to hire Stefanski back in 2019? - “DePodesta hired Dorsey.” Havent seen any reliable reporting to this. - “Depodesta’s philosophy running a football organization is built off a baseball organization.” Brother, this is just “analytics bad” jargon. Assuming one of the most influential minds in modern sports doesnt have the ability to understand the difference in football and baseball organizations is lunacy. Actually read Moneyball the book. See the thought processes that go into these things. - “DePodesta fails to grasp NFL contracts and player life cycle.” How? How has he shown he has failed to grasp that? Just insinuating on your part from nothing. - “Development cannot be prioritized when constructing a roster.” Im sorry, WHAT? Lol thats asinine my guy. Am I to believe that the Chiefs are drafting every single player expecting them to contribute year 1? - “MLB is more predictable.” Baseless conjecture. Because everyone predicted the youngest team in the league Cleveland Guardians to make the playoffs the last two years. Because the Angels won all those penants with Trout and Ohtani right? - “Process does not work when drafting NFL players”. Conjecture. - Pinning Schwartz solely on DePodesta. Complete conjecture. Like teams dont take a flyer on speedster receivers all the time.

@@Itsalwayscloudyincleveland Ok man, you say he's misrepresenting aspects of Depodesta's tenure so could you at least explain what Depodesta does to counter claim that what Joey says? Because I legitimately don't know what he does for the team to be completely honest
@Itsalwayscloudyincleveland8 сағат бұрын
Oof. This is a swing and a miss brother. Saying DePo “ruined” the Browns? We dont even have a clear understanding of what his influence is lol We do know it wasnt influential enough when it came out he was pushing for Browns to hire McDermott instead of Hue. We do know he wasnt influential enough to stop Dorsey from hiring Kitchens, DePo actually wanted Stefanski that first go round. Then we finally get to hire Stefanski and it works out. This has all been widely reported. Nah brother, this aint it. Also I recommend actually reading the book Moneyball and not just watching the film where liberties were taken due to it being a movie and all. Great film, but not an accurate representation of who DePo is and his thought process
@joericottone7 сағат бұрын
His influence is significant, the head coaching decisions went to a vote so no, he could not completely get his way - however, he absolutely was a key figure in firing Dorsey and AVP and the latter has absolutely negatively impacted the team - additionally, he 1000% believes (and enjoys) finding underrated talent that hasn’t been fully recognized - that’s my argument here - trying to build a winner through identifying the “hidden gems” is not conducive to success - furthermore, the belief that being a consistent 9-7 or 10-6 isn’t the answer is ridiculous - that mind is what is building the frame work for this teams approach and that is why they’re inconsistent - tell me what part is wrong in what I just said
@Itsalwayscloudyincleveland7 сағат бұрын
@ so lemme get this straight. You think that losing Alex Van Pelt, the guy who (checks notes) is “killing it” with the Patriots is what derailed this team? Replaced with the guy who (checks notes) you yourself said was going to be a great hire and mesh with Stefanski. And EVERY team believes in finding underrated players. If they didnt then nobody would have draft picks past round 3 lol thats not a negative point bud. That is how good teams are built. Find cheap, young value to fill out your roster. Sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one. The acquisition of Deshaun Watson is what set us back. As of now we dont have a clear answer of who is responsible for that, but according to Jay Glazer and PFN the owner with a history of making QB decisions with this organization was the responsible party. If you wanna fire DePo cuz u think he was the reason we got Deshaun, fine. I understand that opinion. But this weird bashing of simple team building philosophy isnt the slam dunk takedown of him you think it is lol
