Paul Skenes has quickly become one of the most exciting pitchers in baseball, and with the ability to consistently throw 100+ mph, it’s easy to see why. However, his journey to stardom was not as easy as it may seem, and fans are worried that arm injuries are inevitable.
This is the story of Paul Skenes.

Skenes didn't start throwing 100+ until he went to LSU. The pitching coach put him on an MLB training program and worked his mechanics and then suddenly he was throwing 102-103. He can throw faster but chooses not to.
@paysonfox88
@paysonfox88 6 ай бұрын
The poster boy for "damn, he sure got here fast!" was Dave Steib of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978. That guy pitched like 3 games in college as an emergency replacement for starters getting lit up. He was an 400 hitting outfielder with power, who just so happened to possess a cannon arm. A Jays scout offered him a minor league contract after watching him pitch only once, as an emergency pitcher just trying to get the ball over the plate. In less than 130 innings in the minor leagues, he was called up to the major leagues. He threw over 2000 innings in his first 10 seasons. This dude was amazing. Sometimes you find a guy like Paul Skenes, that's just that good.

I wouldnt really say it was "out of nowhere." The guy was drafted #1 for a reason. He was a beast while at LSU. In the first minute of the video they talk about how he's the best prospect they've ever seen. It's pretty expected that he's gonna excel. To your point, maybe not to this degree quite yet... I thought at LSU he was more over the top like Verlander and Nolan Ryan. He needs to get back to that or he's not going to last. Save the splinker for when you really need it. You got 5 pitches you can control, work on that, and make going over top your primary. He's big and powerful, too many pitches in this video are going to blow his arm out, much like Strider.

Skenes throws with mostly his legs and core. It’s why he can throw so hard, but also why his arm might hold up. Will he 100% need Tommy John surgery at some point? Yes. But the surgery is world class now, it usually doesn’t have an impact on pitching velocity after a year.

People do not realize. They were working on mechanics and he had game situation bull pen sessions durring this. It's not uncommon to be put on 35 pitch counts because of the frequency of his sessions. Pit even went into a 6 man rotation to get him more recovery time. They habe another young guy that should get more attention thanbhe does named jones. If they add another OF bat and bull pen arm, they're going to make noise in the playoffs. They were dealing with injuries and are getting healthy. They already made significant ground in the division. I believe they were 12 games out and now only 6. They're only 1.5 out in the wild card.

Looking at Paul Skenes, I worry. The dude is utterly dominate on the mound at times, but the human elbow isn't designed to take that kind of repeated stress, over and over again, over a course of years. Maybe we will get lucky though, and he'll have both the velocity of Nolan Ryan, as well as his tendon strength. The game would defenitly be better for it.
