Agreed. The only way they tricked us really was by Schofield being a n-once and Willoughby being his cover, who ran for her reputation as soon as it came out. But I don’t really expect that subject to feature in the RIE podcast.

Bidding for local radio licences was just the same. But we also had to do things like say what frequency we wanted, where we would put a mast, and all the rest. But they asked for far too much redundancy (had to have a spare studio which ended up used as a cupboard) and insisted on back up finances and all the rest. It made it stupidly expensive and restrictive. As a result, at the end of the 70s there were like 30 IRS (independent radio stations) and in the 80s they added another 30 or so. In the US, where to open a station you bought a licence from the mayor, there were twenty-eight THOUSAND stations!!!!

When selling rights to a book,do the authors get any say or control over casting? So many films/series have been ruined by terrible casting, either by simply poor choices or agendas taking priority over art and storytelling.
@carolineskipper6976
@carolineskipper6976 13 күн бұрын
I think that probably depends on how fierce the competition for the rights is. I seem to remember JK Rowling was able to specify that the film(s) were to be British, with a British cast right from the get-go, because Harry Potter was a very hot property, much in demand.

I'm a bit late to this one but Marina's take on the minecraft movie feels way off base. Firstly she implies that the negativity is exclusive to some kind of toxic gamer culture, when fans of any media get up in arms if their adaptation isn't right. Books, comics, even existing movie franchises get hate like this. She also seemingly belittles people's grievances saying they'll "cgi in whatever weapon or something is deemed acceptable by the fanbase". Fans of that property aren't mad over some insignificant detail that the production got wrong, they're mad because the film looks utterly horrendous both visually and conceptually. I'm not fussed about it personally but I usually like Marina's views and that conversation seemed really reductive.
