@dustinstephenson3593Ай бұрын
@carystorm1863 it can depend on things. A lot of it has to do with your history. The more withdrawals you have had the worse it gets each time. I got to the point where even tapering felt like cold turkey did in the beginning. It also depends on how quickly you taper. Tapering down off 120 over just two weeks is far different than 4 MG a week over a year period. Not all tapering is equal. Going 120, 100, 90, 80, 70 etc each day over a couple weeks is certainly not as bad as cold turkey, but it's not a LOT better. 4 MG is bearable. The second time I got off I did 10 MG every two weeks until 50, then it was 5 MG every 2 weeks. A lot more bearable than cold turkey, but not enjoyable either (had a LOT of withdrawals previously)

I helped my brother get off heroin , methadone, and fetanyl. I did this by getting him the hell out of Cincinnati when that shit was running rampant around that area. A close friend of mine who we went to school with that I consider like a brother to me also struggled with addiction to that shit and meth, I supported him during his lowest points and through being there for him, even though I couldn't be there in person, my moral support eventually played a role in him quitting those drugs. Now he's trying to get his life back on track and he keeps me posted on how things are going. Even though I'm not sure if he'll read this comment, I love you Adam. I’m 9 years clean later this year. Thankfully I never got on Methadone. I knew better. That half life shit extends the withdrawals and it was bad enough coming of just the Dilaudid and Roxys. This is what I see as Phil’s legacy as a person. This is what I choose to focus on. His legacy as a performer goes without saying. It means a lot for a metal head addict to see a badass like Phil admit that he too was powerless and share his struggles. Mad respect. Keep it up Phil

@@brandi6087 I’ve seen the taper down have to be extended for methadone users a few times while in impatient treatment. It really is worse than the drugs it was designed to get people off of. As an addict who knows a thousand more, I realize a lot of us consider being on methadone and other replacement therapies "clean and sober" but in my humble opinion it definitely isn't. Methadone easily has more negative side effects than heroin or an other opioid and it's way harder to kick. And I say this with absolutely no judgment. Opiates simply change the structure of your brain for the rest of your life and most people don't get off them forever. Just don't let them tell you how "clean" they are.

I have detoxed from all sorts of opiates, but methadone was the most horrendous detox I have ever been through. I made it to almost 3 months before I couldn't take it anymore and that day I was at a dentist appointment and had a cracked tooth that required surgery and 2 weeks of antibiotics. The dentist was super generous with the percocet 10mg pills. He gave me 240 of them to get me through the month wait for an oral surgeon. I wiped them out in 2 weeks and the cycle started all over again. That was in 2005. I had been on painkillers for a year at that time. That relapse began the fight of my life and lasted until 4-20-2017. I am 5 years sober now and done with that life. Good job Phil. Can't wait to see you on tour with Pantera 2023!

Like Phil, I had a pretty severe back injury in my 20's. Up to that point, I had always been very anti-pill, anti-opiate, etc. I had seen what happens when you go down that road. But I was so miserable, I started taking them anyway. I figured, I've educated myself, I know the pitfalls, I know what I'm doing. 22 years later, I'm 7 years clean from Fentanyl patches, and 2 years off of methadone . I'm a lot happier, even though I'm divorced and broke, I'm alive and not a slave. Kicking fentanyl cold turkey is the worst. You'd better be pretty fucking hard because it will break you if you're not. But it can be done. Methadone is rough to kick because it takes a long time. Fentanyl takes longer and is 10 times worse. When I was addicted to fentanyl, there was no illicit fentanyl on the street. I would sweat the patches off, run out early, and be desperate to cop something to keep me upright, as I worked full-time and had to function. Fentanyl being so strong, it took a lot of Roxicodone, Dilaudid, or even heroin to just feel ok. All in all, it's a fucking nightmare being a junkie. I managed to not get arrested, killed, or even discharged by my Dr., but I lost everything. And I'm lucky. I'm still alive and not a convicted felon. Take advice from people who have been there and don't follow our path. But, if you're like me, and have to find out on your own, it's not ever too late to reach out for help. I'm sure that like myself, Mr. Anselmo could tell you hours of horror stories about that life. But neither he, nor myself, could truly convey what you will go through. It isn't worth it. Plus, it's boring. I forget who said it, but a fairly famous jazz musician once said "It's boring as hell being a junkie. You've got to get off of that shit to see just what a crazy motherfucker you really are!" We have a lot of fire inside of us, but hard drugs just smother it. It doesn't make you a better musician, a wiser person, or improve your life in any way. In fact, I was atounded at how much my musical ability exploded after getting clean. I was sure I couldn't play guitar anymore without a skin full of opiates. I was wrong. And, my back pain is better managed with ibuprofen, than fentanyl. Go figure.

@@humanipulationnation LARGE doses of Immodium. I had a heroin dependency for most of my adult life. Nearly 30 years. And I was one of the special breed of sorry sacks of shit who never stopped using the street shit when I got on methadone so I piggybacked the junk on top of the juice for 11 years. VERY EXPENSIVE - so I spent many consecutive days a week waaay undermedicated OFTEN. To get through those periods with some semblance of comfort I would take 32 immodium tablets in the morning, 12 tablets at 2:30pm and 18 tablets before going to bed. Yes, I could sleep through the night. Every night for several days following that same immodium dosing. I relied on this scheme for years when I couldn't get the street shit and I was out of methadone. Use the generic tiny tablets and NOT the brand name gel caps. Drink lots of water. Of course any Benzos will really help you get through dope sickness and nothing is better than Phenobarbital but I don't know if they even make that stuff anymore. I'm sure there's plenty of info online about the immodium remedy. I wouldn't go by my dosages - you need to figure out the least amount that works for you but I'm telling you I got through HUNDREDS of days and nights using nothing but immodium when I normally used 180mgs of methadone and 20+ bags of junk a day. I could get through 5 consecutive days of withdrawal comfortably using large immodium doses. Sleep EVERY night.

I had to oust that person from my life because I just couldn't handle my house getting smashed up any more. Here's the weird thing... to this day I can spot a user instantly. There are a lot of high-functioning users doing business, going through life, and I can see in a millisecond that they likely did a little bump of something an hour prior.
