I met Vinnie in 2017 when I was at my favorite little outdoor tiki bar in the middle of a sunny afternoon. A group of guys came in and sat along the bar and I look next to me and I thought to myself, wow this guy is really going for the Vinnie Paul look. Then I see the rest of the guys and they look kinda rock n roll too. I looked it up on my phone and realized Hell Yeah was playing that night. So I ended up having crab legs with Vinnie Paul and Hell Yeah that day. And if anyone is wondering if he was really as nice as he seemed in interviews, the answer is hell yeah. Before they left I told Vinnie “I just want you to know, back in the day all I was listening to was hip hop and then I heard Pantera and it changed everything.” He was like man that’s one of the coolest things a fan has ever said to me. RIP Abbott brothers.

Born & raised here in Fort Worth Texas I was lucky enough to know Pantera before they hit it big. I was a waitress for a bit back in the late 80's early 90's @ a bar where they first got their start called Joe's Garage (Dime went by Diamond Darrell back then)..They all had spandex on & big hair for a little while & Dime was tiny af! Lol. They were untouchable but grounded. They never sold out or changed their music in any way shape or form for the masses. They stayed true to themselves, their music, their roots & their legions of devoted fans till the end. The Abbott brothers are irreplaceable & the void they left will forever be there cause their shoes will never be filled. I pray that they will forever Rock & Rest in Peace side by side

I got to see Pantera 7 times from ‘94 to the early ‘00s and I even got kicked in the head by Anselmo trying to get over the security mote onto the stage. It was epic, I was 15 years old. Vulgar shaped my young metal mind.

I'm old enough to remember when Vinnie and Dimebag were trying to get Phil to shit or get off of the pot, concerning the fate of Pantera. Phil, not liking how he was being asked to rejoin the group, made the statement in a magazine about how Dimebag needed to be severely beaten. Then a couple weeks later, some lunatic took that to heart and then went one step further by stepping on to the stage Damageplan was playing on a shot Dimebag Darrel to death.

Just saw these guys open for Metallica in LA. Pantera will never be what it was with Dime and Vinnie, but Zakk and Charlie did serious justice for the brothers. You couldn't ask for two better fill-ins for a special reunion. They were incredible.

I agree wholeheartedly with Phil. It would have been an absolute nightmare for even the most experienced and reputable bands to take the stage after Pantera in their prime. They were relatively unknown during the show in Moscow, but it’s one of the most intense and incredible performance I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t there, so thank god it was recorded. I could never get tired of watching that set. It makes me feel like I could slam my head through a cinderblock wall.

Yeah I’ve actually heard that in interviews over the years from a few different bands back then, where the promotion company had whoever lined up to play “after Pantera” and even the guys in those bands were like No! We obviously want the gig at this show … BUT you absolutely have to change this lineup !! You Don’t Ever play After Pantera! No band will ever match that intensity! 😮 it is impossible! I know I’ve seen it for myself back in 1994 Far Beyond Driven tour. That footage from Moscow is all the proof anyone needs if they didn’t get to see Pantera live for themselves! I saw Pantera live with Megadeth and Skid Row at Alpine Valley WI. I never saw or have ever seen again the energy Pantera brought at that concert. I had the IMMENSE pleasure of seeing Pantera smoke one of those huge bands at Glasgow Barrowlands, namely Megadeth. They SHREDDED the place that night and to be fair Megadeth stepped up that night too, it was an all round amazing night. Scotland definitely did NOT hate Pantera, I think they were as stunned by their reception as we were by them. Phil told us that night that they were totally blown away that we were the best crowd they'd ever seen, which most bands say to every crowd every night of course, but Phil fuckin MEANT it. I think it was late Nov 92 and they told us "We WILLbe back here guys and it WILL be soon!" Well, within a month they announced their own headline show in Glasgow in early Feb 93. Amazingly they were even BETTER second time round.

IDGAF what anyone says I love Nu Metal the most and it doesn't make you or anyone else "more metal" than me because I prefer nu metal over thrash or metalcore. Nu Metal is heavy as balls and the riffs and the tunings are some of the heaviest in metal history. Hell, even Slayer, Metallica, and many other heavy bands were inspired by that genre at one point. Nu Metal is easily the most important metal genre of all time AFTER thrash metal!

I think your able to relate to more people if your more open to listening to what they like to listen too so like that when they bring up a band u know who they are talking about or at least know the kinda vibe there into , but yea Ive never considered myself more metal than somebody who likes punk or nu metal

Saw them in 94- Far Beyond Driven tour , Vancouver BC , Canada 🇨🇦, with Prong and Sepultura- Chaos A.D. tour. I bought the heatbag Pantera concert shirt with the huge pot leaf and rusty PanterA logo. I actually got to meet Vinnie in 2012 on his promo tour for his new signature DW Drums snare drum and have him autograph that shirt and the Damage Plan CD and cover … 18 years later! 😄 man Vin was such an amazing drummer and awesome to meet in person as well , really funny, friendly and cool. He was super happy to see and sign that old shirt from 1994 in 2012 ! 😊 R.I.P. Dime and. Vinnie , You will Never be Forgotten !!! Thank You Both ! Had the privilege and honor of seeing these guys on this tour, in November of 1992, at the Wilson theater in Fresno, California. Only my second concert ever by that point, just behind Metallica, but probably one of my top 3 concerts ever attended. Like other comments on this log, Pantera was the band of the times, during my adolescent to my young adult years, and they truly were one of a kind. I feel truly blessed to have lived through the 90s while experiencing this group's timeless contribution to the metal scene and the culture, in general. This is still my favorite Pantera album, along with Great Southern Trendkill, and definitely deserves its glory and recognition, as possibly one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

Long story short, Extreme went on after them and played "More than words" and everyone started starting cursing him and booing him. PanterA has always been my favorite band ever since i heard CFH at 13 yo that my older cousin was into being a extremely good guitarist. He taught me how to play guitar showed me the tricks of the trade and i was playing domination solos at 15. Those grooves are in my blood and come out when i jam now. Seen PanterA six times here in Seattle and followed them to Spokane on my jet bike CBR 1100 doing 150+ 500 miles through the desert on the FAR BEYOND DRUNK tour. Dimebag threw a pick to me in the pit and fought three other fans for it. When i got home it said FAR BEYOND DRUNK TOUR on the pick still have it. Great times.

At the time I never realised how special it was to grow up through my 20's in the DFW area. Seeing pantera out at Joe's garage, or even places as small as hotel hell which was just a gutted house with a bar in the back. I remember pantera coming on stage with their pyrotechnics in such a small space. I was sitting in the back and you could see the flames rolling across the ceiling towards me. It sucked all the oxygen out of the room so fast that people started falling out. Then they opened the side doors and let the air in. The yell from the croud was something totally different than normal. Saw them at Joe's Garage and a guy broke his arm in the pit. They tried to call him a ambulance but he said no way. So they backed a pick up truck to the back door and he sat in the back and finished watching the show. Sooo many memories...!!

I'll never forget being 10 years old in eastern europe and my dad bringing a Pantera collection CD and a Sepultura best of CD. Old man comes in crazy excited and was like "Wanna hear the best music ever?" And we jammed for hours as he was explaining who was who, who was playing guitar, singing and so on... good fkn times.Never stopped listening after that, this music get you through both some tough moments and the best moments in life. I don't even remember how or why I bought the Vulger CD, but I'll never forget getting home and putting it on and as soon as Mouth For War kicked in, I was immediately hooked and so blown away by the production. I played it nonstop for months and saw them on that tour in Toronto with Sacred Reich opening. I never head banged at concerts, but that one I couldn't help it. It was mandatory. Pantera ruled the world.

I saw Pantera at Prince's favorite small venue (1st. Avenue) in Minneapolis back in the early 90's. I didn't know who they were, and it was one of the best shows I have ever experienced. They came back with White Zombie a few years later to a bigger venue, and that was my favorite concert experience of all time. They put on a pretty good show. Thanks for the memories.

I have issues with Anselmo these days, but back in March or April of 1992 (it was near the end of the my senior year in high school) going into Peaches Music and they were playing that album. My ears perked right up and I asked the cashier "What in the world is that?" "Ummm... New Pantera." was her response. I had heard Cemetery Gates before and really liked it but nothing could have prepared me for what I was hearing that day. The CD was sold out and they only had cassettes and I bought one right then and there. Eventually picked up the CD a few weeks later when I wore the tape out. People compare it to Reign in Blood but it's so much more than that. I was never that blown away by Reign to be honest with you. The first and the last tracks are great but that's about it. (I'm actually one of the rare few people to think South of Heaven is better album) Everything on Guitar killed. The production, THAT guitar sound, the vocals, the grooves, the riffs, everything. That spring & summer saw new releases from Megadeth, Testament, Iron Maiden, Exodus , Warrior Soul, Black Sabbath (Dehumanizer which is still my favorite Black Sabbath album) but Vulgar buried all of them.

You just named my 3 favorite guitarist. I started listening to metal when I was just 2 1/2. My Aunt turned me onto it. I was born the same year as Dime. When I was 5 my Mom told me she was taking me to National Record Mart to pick out my first album. I chose Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Van Halen was the next band I was blown away by and I loved. Diary of a madman and of course Randy Rhoads. I found a guitar in my Grandparents basement and my Mom took me to guitar lessons. No other band blew me away until Pantera. I've still yet to find a better band to this day. I don't think anyone can top them. I highly doubt I will see it in my lifetime.

Just like us Dime was a fan of music, being a fan and a player he went naturally way above and beyond everyone else before he had finished his teenage years. I hate the fact he isn't with us, I hate the fact of the way he was taken. Being a magical, humorous, decent, generous person, who the f would even let that cross their mind. That guy should not have been in society as he was known to be able to do what a marine was meant, but he was too good at one action and had no mentality to be able to live a general life. For a person to do what he had done must have been incredibly angry, easily triggered or paid off. Listen to Dime daily, it keeps perspective of knowing there are good people on the planet..

I was 20 yrs. old n it changed my life, much like the discovery of metal when I was 14. Metal saved my life, I was sooo angry, full of angst n babybatter. It was so incredibly liberating I wept wth gratitude to know I wasn't alone and bein' a percussionist n all around musician, Darryl's riffs and Phil's effortless metal voice ( although asea at times) was incredible. Phil, Rex, Zakk &co, you guys changed my life growing up as a young aspiring musician, a d I want to send my deepest condolences for the loss of the two legends Dime and Vinnie Paul....I can only begin to imagine the sadness you carry in your hearts for losing your brothers in metallic arms...Phil as far as I'm concerned you will always be the toughest frontman metal has ever seen, no matter how tough life may get remind yourself you can man and you changed the face of metal with your powerful voice that is indeed a Vulgar Display Of Power, and Dime did things that were impossible to do on his axe Eva will continue to inspire future generations of guitarists abr may his name and memory live in forever! I'm a metal guitarist myself of 30 years and still go hard and strong but I pale in the shade to Dimes absolute metal genius...Rex, you are worthy of a mention too for your powerful bottom end that worked perfectly with Vinnie to create powerful groove and insane rhythm section for dime to shine doing what he did best!! I vote the surviving members of Pantera be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame for your input and influence into metal which changed the essence of music for so many people still to.thiw day...may your lives be long and prosperous Phil and Rex, and may the memories of those you have lost be remembered as two of the best metalheads whoever lived!! Vulgar is still on high rotation in my playlist, and Hollow is my favourite off the album, even though there are so many golden masterpieces on it, mainly because the theme hits that spot in my heart that laments with Phil's lyrics and the way Dime wails the whole way through it with technical precision and speed, a classic of the ages from one of the best mwtal album of all time...well done boys!! Vulgar display of power was the album I had been searching for years for and didn’t know it, till I heard it the first time! It was the heaviest thing I had ever heard but still had this underlying groove that Vinnie and Rex threw underneath that just bridged that gap for me that no other band had even com close to at that point and rekindled my love for heavy music. As a drummer vinnie showed me you could be heavy as fuck and still play with feel and groove, one of the most influential and important albums of my life and one of the most important album for heavy music at that point as well. Thank god for Pantera!

I met phil and rex down in chile in 98 at their hotel. Some of the nicest dudes you could meet and took their time to greet their fans that were all there! That same day my mom met dimebag and vinnie at one of the golf clubs! She recognized them through all the pantera posters i had in my room

Last time I saw Pantera was 7-13-96. It was the night Phil OD'd after the show. I believe White Zombie opened. The reason I remember so well, It was my 20th birthday.

Saw Pantera a few times. Listened to this Album an infinite number of times when I was in High School(1990-1993). They played walk at the Lakeshore Ampitheatre in Atlanta Georgia. I swear the crowd almost brought the covered part of the amphitheater down singing RE-SPECT-WALK-

I met Vinnie at the first Uproar tour. He was one of those people who passed his happiness on to people he interacted with, especially for empaths. He was genuine. He gave every hung, handshake, and autograph, and was so glad to do so. I hope he and Dime are looking down and glad that Phil and Rex are continuing the name and legacy. I wished it had happened with the Abbott boys still with us

I remember Dimebag we saw Damage plan with Arch Enemy and Chimaria at the house of blues very small venue which kicked ass because you were right up front. And Dime was pouring shots of Jager Meister down fans throats while doing a guitar solo. Fucking awesome!

My big brother was a huge Pantera fan, He had the CFH tattooed in a old english like script on the left side of his head right above his ear. Sadly he died in a car accident on his 21st birthday in 1997. I was at school when i found out and i just remember losing it, it was one of the hardest days of my life.

I have very fond nostalgic memories of listening to this album on cassette on boombox in my room ! Back then I knew a few metal bands and me and my mam would go grocery shopping every Saturday and she would let me buy a video or a cassette and sometimes you would buy albums or horror movie blind just off the back of the art work ! And even as a kid I just knew an album in the metal section with cover like that could not fail ! I think I listened to it for about 6 months straight !!!! I’m 45 now and still have that tape and it has never dissipated me once !!!

Nice Negative Approach hoodie Phil is rocking ! But yeah, VDOP blew my mind when I bought the cassette tape . I listened to the first side 3 times in a row before I even flipped it over !!! I turned on several people to them that week I bought it , and they became life long Pantera fans !!! I was lucky enough to see them 9 times before they went away . I still have two guitar pics Dime threw out to the crowd . RIP Abbott bros .
