Tadej Pogacar has won the 2024 Giro d'Italia to no one's surprise. Now he will have to prepare for the Tour de France 2024 against Jonas Vingegaard, but first here is the analysis of the Giro 2024, how Pogacar broke records of dopers like Tony Rominger or Eddy Merckx and how he won 6 stages wearing the maglia rosa for 20 days. How Pogacar won clean, without doping, the fastest Giro d'italia in history.

Genuinely, the most blatant exhibition I've seen in 40 years. Rides off the front during Milan's lead-out to catch Narvaez... faster than the 85kg hour record holder... faster than 52kg climbers... rarely out of breath... holds time on Mt Grappa chasers despite waving to crowd, handing out bidons and riding with his hands off the bars... It wasn't the overall time gap over second-tier opposition (no disrespect), it was the ludicrous rate of in-stage time gaps and the utterly implausible style.

The increase in average speed is interesting when you look back at previous similar jumps. 1983/84 are exceptions given the flat parcours to favour Moser. The next big increase happens with EPO in 1990 and then another with TR and Dr Ferrari in 1995, just around peak Gewiss. There’s a couple of other suspicious jumps along the way but none of them come close to a 41kph average even when we know guys had haematocrit readings of 60% through the mid nineties. Over 2kph faster than Roglic last year or Bernal in 2021?? 2kph extra at 40kph is how many watts? About 40 I would think and maybe 50. Madness.

Human physiology. And these borders exist even on clean track and field. In cycling we have an athlete doing 21 marathons in 23 days, with different disciplines, climb, endurance, sprint, etc without sweat and he is ready to do it again in less than a month...... Motor doping controls were largely absent at the Giro last year, and allegedly blood / urine controls were quite patchy. I'm sure they must have corrected it this year. Wouldn't want to have the fastest edition in history with no fig leaf, that might look bad.

@@papalegba6796 the most blatant motor was Froome's ridiculous high cadence vs. perceived effort (yet still raw speed at such cadence). e.g. i can also spin my legs at 120rpm, but i'm doing it in such a granny gear i'm still going slow as hell. We've seen advances in equipment, in nutrition, what's to say there's similar advances also in recovery - and if it is not currently on the WADA list, then it's not illegal or breaking the rules! In this arms race, the problem is the testers/governing body are always a few steps behind what is currently popular. Think Tram in the last decade, now on WADA list... Ketones more recently... what exactly is in the finishing bottles? etc.

I seen a stage highlights in this Giro , where he fiddle fondled right handle bar of the velo to engage the equivalent Deflector Shield and Warp drive of the Pro road cycling realm.
