I too own an old 4500 and I rebuilt the power steering mechanism. There is linkage on the ram that can get out of adjustment (worn) that makes the power steering work poorly especially one way more than the other. Check that out first.

What you pointed out at 1:13 and called the power steering pump is actually the steering ram. The pump was correctly identified earlier in the video.

Your tractors king pins need to be replaced. I have the same tractor. And the same problem. The king pins that ford used in the 4500 were the same king pins used in their older pickup trucks, I believe early 60s models. It's much cheaper to buy the kit to repair them from a company that sells the king pins for ford trucks, rather than buying from a tractor dealer. Somebody else on the internet mentioned it. Just in case you decide to fix em... the part is MOOG 8459B. The tractor dealer wanted $180 for the kit. The Moog kit is under $50. on the internet and a perfect fit. I used that kit to repair my 4500 tractor. You will need to ream the bushings to size after they are installed.

Thanks! I’ll definitely take a look at the pick up truck pins. I was considering pulling the part and cleaning everything up on the lathe. This tractor runs like a top, they don’t build them like this anymore.

On my 4500, the steering hydraulics is the same as the loader and backhoe. Only the front hydraulic pump! It’s a 68

Can you do a walk through and show me the hydraulic loader system? Front pump reservoir lnes? Bought one but no front pump and I can find anything about it.
