How Power Windows Work

Here's how automatic power windows work on a car.
The power windows are controlled by a regulator and an electric motor. Window operation depends on the motor's control circuit and the window's position.
In this video, a window regulator from an Infiniti G35 is torn down. The limit switch is comprised of a planetary gear system and tells the window switch CPU when the window has reached its top most position. The encoder tells the CPU the window's speed for jam protection when using the auto-up function. The motor itself is a 12V DC electric motor, which rides on sleeve bearings and has a spiral gear.

Amazing video! Came up on my feed this evening after spending three days working on my 2002 toyota 4runner driver door window motor and lifter. It was like OMG! I took the motor all apart cause the armature bearing surface at the tip was rusted. Cleaned and lubed everything and got it running again. Having to air freight a good used one from the US to me in Costa Rica jungle. Toyota stopped selling a lot of parts for gen3 4runners, sad. You went a bit deeper in than I needed to get it up and running. Thanks from a very old retired MB auto tech. Cheers!

After removing the motor from the regulator, you said the motor will spin infinitely (reference: approximately 2:30 in the video). Please double check. I suspect the limit switch is still active and would still stop the motor after a few rotations. I briefly searched the existing 279 comments for similar question without success. GREAT JOB on this video!!! This is the first time I've found the answer to this question I've been wondering for years. I wish there was a way to REALLY LIKE a video.
