Here's a good one: ran your tests and discovered that there is no current at fuse! (fuse ok) Ran 12v through fuse (load side) receptacle and everything works.

Yah- - After Hour 3 trying to do the window regulator on my Toyota Solara, and was shop baited by online prices that were 1/3 of the actual price, and because now the price is three digits instead of 1/3 of that, going to test the switch with a multimeter. While I am sure it's the motor, it is an expensive gas so I want to make sure that it is the motor.

I have a 1994 Honda del sol and my driver side window does not work, I’ve changed out the motor, cleaned out harnesses, looked at fuses and relay and controller, I still can’t get it to work, I’ve run out of ideas. Please help

Isn't there a way to tell if it's the fuse vs switch vs relay quicker than checking the fuse? If the window goes up with the switch, but not down, it's not going to be the fuse, it's going to be the switch. If the window doesn't go up or down, it's likely the relay or the fuse. Also, there would be a troubleshooting step in whether the master window switch works vs the switch on the door itself. Often if one doesn't work the other does and that would indicate whether the problem is in the master switch or the door switch.

My driver window switch stopped working and cant find a replacement OEM switch so I bought a universal switch and relocate it to next to mirror switch on dashboard and used some old speaker wire that I had laying around but now the motor only clicks wanting to go up or down but when I connect the motor straight to power with the factory wires it goes up and when I the wires it goes down, so could it be that the wire that I used is too thin

Continuity tests are a good start , but a circuit can pass this test and still not be able to carry enough current (amps) to perform the task.

Hi, my name is John. I bought a 2004 GMC envoy, checked all the windows and they all worked great. Very strong quiet motors, all windows went up and down very well, but I drove it home for the first time, pulled into the drive, put all windows up, and turned truck off. Then before we even got out, my wife remembered we needed to run to Walmart, so I immediately turned the vehicle back on and tried to roll the windows back down, especially the back windows because we have, at the time, a 1 year old and a 6 year old in the back seats, and it was beginning of summer. But all of sudden neither back window worked. I have checked all fuses, checked the relays, and even tested the master switch in the driver door, but nothing was blown or broken, and the master switch works but I can't figure out why both back windows stopped working at the same time for no reason. Even my mechanic can't figure it out. Please, please help me in any way you can. I have tried everything and have to do some many repairs on this vehicle but 3 things are unexplainable. My 4 wheel drive, my air conditioner, and most importantly the rear windows. I really need this to work again. I know the motors didn't go out without warning and at the same time. I live in Michigan City, right on lake Michigan, and in the summer, it gets very hot and extremely humid, and we can't put the kids in it for long because I gets so hot back there. Please help if you can. I'm out of ideas and nerves John Mayfield.

Too late for you, but tape in series some batteries to add them up to 12v. That's literally how my Dremel works. My pack was not charging, so I took it apart. It was made of AAA batteries, all connected in series (equivalent to vertically stacking them on each other). BTW, you can connect AA batteries in parallel to create a D cell. That is how my rechargeable D cells were made, as are most (if not all) brands of D rechargeables. They create a battery harness the size of a D, then pack with smaller batteries to make a larger one. Again, though, making series connections adds the voltage, parallel connections increases current (and power) capability.

The other windows will not go down from the master switch or the individual door switches. You can here a click but nothing happens on all 3 non driver windows. I checked fuzes all good. You are doing several things wrong here. First: 6:00 Don't make the temporary test terminals (paper clips) so long and bent as to be able for the to accidentally make contact. If the battery tips over while moving wires around, there is a very good possibility for them to short out. Next: 7:20 DO NOT try every contact together as you are doing. Many relays have a Normally Closed Contact set. If you do that to that set you are going to short out the battery. This is a very BAD practice and you should NOT be telling people to do this. The proper way to find out what terminal goes to what, using that multimeter (you JUST Showed), on the continuity setting. The relay coil (which will almost always be in the opposite direction of the NO and NC) will have some resistance but will show that it in fact has continuity. Next: When you tested the switch, you ONLY tested the Down. You should have tested both and tested for NO Resistance. You may have some continuity but NOT a solid connection, meanit the switch is faulty or dirty. Next: After you ONLY tested one function of the switch you went right to the actuator/regulator. NO. There may be a problem with the CPU module at the switch that may be faulty. Next: 15:16 Never have I seen a regulator that is riveted in. You yourself just said you never done this 14:20 , so how can you make that claim. Next and this is a "OH COME ON MAN! No Shit." 14:28 Find someone to do it cheaper. Yeah maybe the tip to, Do most of the work and MAYBE safelite will do the rest, is ok but come on man like people won't try to get it done cheaper. 15:27 "or maybe just a local mechanic" Gee I wonder why he didn't mention if he already went to a mechanic, oh wait he did 0:07

First of all, even a 30A relay's coil can be magnetized enough to switch with even 6v from 2 regular 2032 coin batteries, which are being used in remote controller, with 2032 code. Easier to swap a potential bad relay with a good one that is similar than trying to test it. If it works, then relay is bad. Thanks for the other hints.

Fyi, replacing the regulator is not difficult--plenty of videos on it. You can also just replace the regulator motor (just removing screws and a connector) to make it an even cheaper fix. Thanks for a very clear and concise video!

@@DixT1 Yes, pretty much. It’s pretty obvious which one it is as it’ll be attached to the window regulator in the door. Easy to replace and a lot cheaper than than buying the full window regulator (~$50 vs $175).

I changed the master switch on the driver door and got all my windows to work---except the front passenger door! The fuses and relay are fine, also. I should be able to do this myself. (I haven't worked on my own vehicles for about 25-30 years now. I'm 74 now and just don't want to pay what a mechanic's shop wants, to do it!)

@@DixT1 It’ll be apparent if the motor is working or not if you remove the door panel and observe it as you engage the window switch. On my Jeep it was just a cheap, plastic retaining clip that broke, $6.29 to fix! On another car, I took apart the motor itself (just screws) and discovered corrosion inside which I cleaned; still working til this day! You can definitely fix your power window yourself (especially with KZbin)!

At min 7:24 when you applied power to those two terminals *if the relay is normay closed type (NC type)* you short the relay because there's continuity between those two prongs when the relay's not powered... those two prongs are terminal 30 and terminal 87 that connect to the *controlled circuit or load* and usually you can tell because they're wider prongs....the other two prongs are terminal 85 and terminal 86 and they bring the ground and positive (control signal) to the relay...

I have a 2016 Mustang conv. Passenger door window works fine up and down. But the drivers door switch to operate the passenger window only goes down. Even when I lift it up if the window is up. The switch for the drivers door window works fine for the driver side window. I had a new switch installed on the drivers door but same problem. Any ideas?

I thank you for your detailed instructions on how to diagnose the failure of driver's side car window! I thought I'd start with checking the fuse. Sounds simple, right? The fuse puller I have is not that same kind you demonstrate. Mine is one you need to somehow jam with the strength of a gorilla into the fuse and that is supposed to open up the jaw end and grab the fuse. So there I was, an over 60 year old woman kneeling on the floor of the garage, leaning into the fuse box area, using my right hand (did I mention I'm left handed?) to try to jam the jaw end at the fuse I want to pull out. All I could think was what kind of a cruel ******** would design such a tool? I have fixed a lot of toilets, I have rewired a floor lamp, I have hung a door, but this has me wanting to jump off a bridge. For my sanity, I'm stopping this now. I'm going to bring my car to my mechanic to fix the window.
