How POWERFUL Is Wolverine REALLY? (Marvel Comics)

A video essay analysing Wolverine in Marvel's 616 comic continuity. I made this in the summer of 2019, and it sat on my PC for one-and-a-half years while I was doing other stuff. I decided to throw it out there as it took a while to research and make at the time.

Logan possibly has the most depth of character out of every Marvel superhero. He committed several lifetime's worth of atrocities and is trying to do right. He's vicious and ruthless, but still abides by a code of honor. He likes to act cool and aloof, but it's just a mask for how surprisingly emotionally vulnerable he is. Despite seemingly the entire world trying to make life for Logan as difficult as possible, he perserveres while (almost) never succumbing to those forces

I was in the pharmacy store when I was a kid, Wolverine #50 I remember buying that comic with money I made from cutting grass I was 11 years old and he was the invincible super hero for me at that age maybe for my dad it was Superman but for me and my generation it was The Wolverine.

Wolverine learned that he can abuse his healing factor and push his muscles much higher thanks to his reinforced skeleton. It's painful because his muscles are breaking down, but they heal just as quick. They show him running over100 mph, blowing past Cap. That also puts his strength level pushing into the lower levels of super strength.

I'd say strength 3 and speed 4. Otherwise I'm with you. But I think you glossed over how absurdly _sneaky_ he is. He can move without sound, his super senses allow him to ping every person looking for him and every alarm system from far off, he can climb anywhere, he can mask his presence ninjastyle and he's about as good at all the cloak and dagger spystuff as at fighting. He sneaks up on wild animals and touches them as recreation. Sure it's only situationally useful, but when it is useful, Wolvie is a 6 out of 7.

Wolverine has always been my favourite mutant. Mainly because i was a very sickly kid, i was always in hospital and sick. I use to say to my parents i wish i was like wolverine and heal from anything. Thats why he resonates with me as an adult. As an adult i have chronic pain from a drink driver hitting me at a red light. So i still resonate with his healing ability even as a 40 year old man. Id love to have a healing factor to end the pain bascially.

Healing factors only work for damage you gain after it's active. Just look at deadpool, he had cancer before he had a healing factor and they merged so deadpool is a walking pile of cancer with a healing factor. If you're missing a limb before gaining a healingfactor they you'll be still missing that limb

I think Wolverine's healing factor makes him right below Omega Level mutant. I know i'll get push back for this, but I really do. Between his healing factor and Adamantium protecting his bones so he can regenerate even when incinerated, he has faced off against some of the strongest beings in the universe. To say he is on par with Captain America is frankly insulting. I love Cap, but its more the other way around. Captain America is on par with Logan, but when The Wolverine goes berserk, Cap doesn't stand a chance. Logan is the most deadly fighter on the planet, and when the Hand goes to sleep, they don't look under their bed for Chuck Norris, they are looking for Wolverine. He does take hits that he should be able to evade, but most of the time when he takes those hits, its because he is holding back. Frankly, Logan holds back alot of the time, because he knows he can win the fight. Just like spiderman holds back because he is so strong and fast, Logan holds back because unlike Peter, Logan has gone over the edge, been driven over the edge. Logan has stared into the abyss, and abyss winced.

It's if every second of his life he was being hit by knife during centuries. But Logan just regenerates at the very moment every time this view became popular after the last film, but Logan drinks a genetic engineering product that suppressed his x gene, so his healing factor began to fade, it's not about adamantium.

The adamantium bonded to Wolverine would've killed anyone if it wasn't for his healing factor even if his healing wasn't required for the bonding process in the first place. His healing factor can also be overloaded and as seen in Old Man Logan, will eventually deteriorate with age to the point where attacks he could've healed from near-instantly in his prime take multiple hours or days

I'm not a huge comic nerd, but I was an avid reader in the 80s and always thought he was badass. He was like Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry and Charles Bronson rolled up into a short, hairy brute with claws and he said "bub" a lot and just seemed like a cool, cigar smoking anti-hero. I was the perfect age when I discovered Wolvie. He was brought in so the Hulk had a challenge. When Jackman came in and played him he did a fantastic job, just wasn't physically like him at all.

Wolverine carrying 100 lb of adamantium in his body and he still moves as fast as he does keeping up with Spider-Man imagine him without the adamantium when he was feral wolverine how fast he would move I think that's the reason why he beat Shang Chi the first time but then again he also beat them with the adamantium. The thing about Wolverine that makes him scared, is his berserker rage. He takes it, and keeps coming. He is a loyal friend, and protects his friends viciously. There is also his lake of talking it out. Where Cyclops talks, Wolverine just cuts and moves on. It is his up frontless, and direct nature people like. When wondering why he feels little pain, it is because he is in constant pain. His insane healing factor is hampered by continuously trying to repair his skeleton. Getting torn up probably feels better, because his healing factor concentrates on the open wounds, versus his skeleton. I would love it if in the comics they had him use more of his gained knowledge from being so old. That is my only real beef with the man who shows no fear.

There was a time in the comics for a good while that his heightened senses didn't come up, besides his sense of smell, but he can hear people coming a couple of blocks away. I'd say his senses are second to Daredevil. Apart from eyesight, obviously.

I'd say overall, they're pretty equal. Wolverine doesn't use taste too much, but it is enhance, and that's arguably the least important of their senses. Hearing goes to Daredevil, Smell to Wolverine, both have enhanced touch, to the point that they're control is pinpoint precise, Daredevil has his radar, Wolverine can see, even in near total darkness.

I don't think he's a 7 in fighting skills as an individual combatant. He's an absolute 7 when he fights in a group. His knowledge of how to effectively use everyone else's abilities make him crazy adaptable. Where he falls down in the individual level is a strange refusal to use any CQC skills even though he's been in the military and special forces. Plus he almost only uses his claws. With a deficit like a lack of ranged powers, why doesn't he carry a ranged weapon of some kind? Isn't a a bladed weapon used as a last resort!?!

hand to hand there is no one that has ever beaten him, shang chi, iron fist, captain america, no one has beaten him at least more than once so I would say he IS the best hand-to-hand fighter in Marvel, I would go so far as to put him against anyone hand to hand in DC as well, I also think you way underrate his speed, his run speed is not what I would rate but is reflex speed is on par with anyone even spiderman with his spider-sense, he can keep up with spider man and captain America in run speed so I still say he deserves at least a 4 on the ranking.

My head hurts, so a barret 50 cal can punch through an inch of steel, wolverine can punch through like all the steel, a barret at a rough look produces 11,000 psi of pressure, and is good for 2inches? So wolverine is more like a tank round, like literally him punching you is like getting hit by a tank round, in full flight, but he can do it punching, like he has the capacity to punch with the force of tank round in literally the space of a few inches, my brain just broke, i cant maths, but if you took wolverine as having the power to punch with a tank round, you could literally work out what he could lift, im not smart enough to work that out, but literally worked out, he has to hold himself back in everday life, like a crocodile with just over 3000 psi, him holding something would be like 3times the force of a crocodile bite, he literaly has to hold himself back, or would tear his body apart and destroy whatever he was fighting, brings more questions now, his regeneration is more impressive like, if he went to squat a fly off your back, he would put his hand through you, like a simple thing like opening a door to us would require so much restraint, his strength is basicaly he is the strongest, its a constant battle to not break things

don't need a video to say he is OP, same with Deadpool. Deadpool might have started OP but Wolverine didn't, his major thing seemed to be his healing factor grew to ridiculous levels. He used to be killable in the early 90's and more so before then. So now with his healing factor he will always get up eventually, removes any possibility of losing and makes him boring same goes for Deadpool (admission hat Leifields stuff and his characters but it does not diminish the point). Only way Old Man Logan works is with him nerfed, not a good look nor does that make a good story. OP characters will always end up with weaker stories than those not OP. If they have to be nerfed for a good story, well then the character has gotten too powerful. Just my point of view.

Wolverine is an absurdly weak mutant who only survives due to plot armor. A single non-mutant with a small caliber gun, a bowie knife, and enough money to rent a small fishing boat can neutralize Wolverine and then drop him into the ocean deeps, where Wolverine's adamantium skeleton will keep him lost in the black for 10000 years. He's harder to bring down than most other mutants, but still VERY easy to deal with except for that pesky plot armor.

You mean the DOZENS of times he's fought the Hulk. Wolverine was originally made to be a Hulk antagonist, that's why he's got the BS healing factor. So he can actually take hits from Hulk and keep going.
