IMO, Malgus' greatest unstated strength (in-universe and as a character) was his pragmatism and open mind. He viewed anything and anyone as a potential resource and ally, and used that to climb through the Sith ranks despite his reputation as a reformist and despite his alien wife. Easily one of my favorite characters in the franchise.

Which make it funny they sent Darth Nox on the mission to kill him since they would have sided him Malgus due to what they've dealt with on their rise to power. The same thing with Lord Wrath and Cipher 9 they've all dealt with empire being stupid, greedy and arrogant. While the Bounty Hunter could have been paid off to betray the Empire. The imperial 4 would have sided with him. It's the Republic 4 that would have fought him outright.

Can they PLEASE start making movies about the REALLY interesting era in Star Wars? The Old Republic! The giant Sith Empire army, the Jedi power house. The Galaxy was so much more interesting. TosinAsLeader maybe just maybe Rian Johnson will venture to the Old Republic. As he did say it was going to be set in the past with no characters of the Star Wars Saga being attached to it. So fingers crossed he will create a trilogy based on the Sith fighting the Jedi. Because just creating another Jedi conflict against the Sith is fundamentally the same thing as the Star Wars Saga except it is based in another timeline.

Malgus was first and foremost a Sithlord, so when the Empire brokered a peace with the republic and its Jedi's, it was inevitable that Malgus would sever himself from the weak Empire and go his own way. Remember.. Sith and Empire are 2 seperate factions, the Sith only uses the Empire through manipulation and force.

In many ways Malgus had Sidious' flaw. He could conquer the galaxy but he could not rule it. It wasn't in his nature to negotiate, compromise or even just sit down and talk things out. Much like Tulak Hord he achieved his power by focusing on a single aspect above all else but that left him poorly rounded and vulnerable in certain ways (political machinations for example)

I can definitely agree with you on one thing about Malgus: he always DID lead by example and fought as hard as he could. I found it very interesting that he had his family as moral support. That was a fact that I didn't know about him, but it would certainly help explain why he always fought so hard in battle. And there were not many Jedi that could match him. The only one I can think of that actually managed to beat him (and this is NOT counting whichever character a player of SWTOR plays) was Grand Master Satele Shan. True she did get some help from a Republic Trooper, but for most of their fight they seemed pretty evenly matched in terms of abilities. Although he did move a split second faster than she did and managed to destroy her Lightsaber, she was still able to use the Tutaminis (hopefully I spelled that right) technique to stop his Lightsaber with her bare hands.

vader would beat malgus, although it would be a very close fight, but vader is one of the greatest lightsaber dualist of all time, bc he had to be to protect his cybernetics. malgus is like a near unstoppable force and vader is an immovable object. vader had only really loss when he wasn't trying to kill his opponent. but like I said, it would be a very close fight

+Cameron Latham Maul did not kill nearly as many jedi as Vader or Dooku. He died too early for that. Grevious, however, has killed many jedi, But I still think that Vader has more under his belt, expecially if you count his inquisitor force

Great video and I really wish Disney would make the Old Republic stuff canon. I mean it takes places thousand and thousands of years before the prequels, Force Awakens and the original trilogy. So it is not like they have to worry too much about how it's lore ties into the current lore that they are building with the new Star Wars movies.

Far more than victories in combat or feats of strength, Darth Malgus contributed to the Sith Empire by identifying key flashpoints Imperial forces could be directed at to garner tactical and diplomatic advantages. But, most importantly, and by his own description of his intent, his rebellion against the Sith Empire would either replace it with his own or force the older empire to adapt to changing times. And it was reborn into a more adaptable and progressive form.

malgus was a god of war in one-on-one combat. because of his mastery of lightsaber form 5 (the same form anakin used) malgus overwhelmed his opponents and some of his blows could break bone. you cannot block form 5, also known as djem so, because it's literally designed to shatter armor and was made for large aliens like wookies. (like chewbacca for those who don't know) for a human to use let alone master form 5 it costed a massive amount of force energy. which is why so few humans have used it. on top of malgus mastering form 5 he also had a natural talent called "tunnel sense" in battle he hyper focused on his opponent, being able to see every eye flick, every muscle twitch. this made malgus un-beatable in one-on-one combat because he could see everything his opponent was and would be doing. HOWEVER, there was a draw back from tunnel vision. his hyper focus caused him to lose track of his surroundings allowing his opponent to get saved by allies or (if they had time) to use the natural surrounding to their advantage. though this usually didn't matter. the most perfect case of this was in the CGI trailer "hope" for SWTOR when he is fighting satele shan on allderaan. she was a powerfull jedi master yet was almost instantly overwhelmed and though she used the surroundings it didn't help and malgus had won, though he failed to kill her and ended up getting messed up, he had won the duel between him and the jedi grandmaster. he would have killed her if her ally hadn't arrived.

I know I'm pretty late in commenting here, but one thing I kinda wish you'd done with these "How Powerful Was…" videos would be to have some kind of established 1-10 power ladder to help visualize the subject's placement on it, with people like Sidious, Vitiate, and Marka Ragnos (maybe) on the very top rung, and people like Vader directly beneath that. As it stands with Malgus in my personal opinion, I'd put him somewhere around the 8th highest rung of the ladder, being above someone like Maul and maybe around the same level or higher than Dooku, but falling short of someone like Vader. I have a few Star Wars characters (most of them villains) that hold a special place of favor for me, and Malgus is definitely high on that list.

And the acquisition of his slave, his slow-growing fondness for her, and then his eventual murder of her to free himself of the burden it put on him is equal parts amazing and tragic.
