What are the two most common issues our coaches see in how racecar drivers manipulate the throttle:
1) Too aggressive of initial hit: You will see in the white line, our driver hits the throttle very aggressively. But, in the middle of the brake zone they have to release off some throttle because they lose traction (breaking one of the golden rules in our sport).
If they were slightly more progressive to throttle, they likely wouldn't have upset the car causing them to lift off the throttle and would have likely got back to full throttle earlier.
2) Early Throttle + Maintenance Throttle: In our red line you will see the driver picks up the throttle even earlier, but because they can't unwind the steering wheel they aren't able to progressively get back to full throttle. They have to spend a prolonged period of time at only 20% throttle -- anytime we spend a long time using maintenance throttle something has gone wrong.
This early throttle causes the car to understeer (check their steering trace on exit) which then means they can't get back to full throttle until it's way too late!
