We need more honesty. We are probably 2 decades behind Germany and 1 decade behind Australia in Prostate cancer care because of FDA delays in PSMA scans and radioligand therapy approval in the USA, Plus there will be a 5-10 year learning curve once these treatments hit our shores. My PSMA scan was positive at .74 when all other scans were negative.

how long did you get to get your appointment?? its so hard to get hold of them when we use their website in ucla to call, each time they gave us different answers, and we are lost and we don't know how to make an appointment for this PSMA scan, so stressful, do they accept our family doctor referral?

@@lavenderfrench1742 I actually saw dr Leonard Marks at ucla, he Rx the PSMA scan.

@@jkl6868 thank you so much and so dr Leonard Marks give you this PSMA scan order then you can get it this done? thank you so much for your reply and so how do you do your treatment after this PSMA scan?
@jkl68683 жыл бұрын
@@lavenderfrench1742 once I got the results of the scan and it showed that the cancer had not metastasized, I could just treat the organ itself, since ucla only does spot treatment for HIFU. I started looking for Drs with more experience than Dr Marks on HIFU, Thru my local cancer support group I found Dr Pugach, he is a pioneer in HIFU, he had it done himself. He performed HIFU and melted my prostate but left the nerves and sphincter intact. I am totally cancer free as of today, no need for diapers, and could still function.

Just make an appt at ucla urology at their westwood campus, let them know that you are interested in the PSMA scan, and you know it’s out of pocket(maybe covered by now).

My PSA was 18 (not 1.8) Oct 4 22. I was scheduled to see my oncologist on Oct 14 and it was 23.5. I was scheduled for a PSMA scan for 11/30 and the hospital canceled it on the 29th. Rescheduled for 12/9. My PSA will probably be40 by the time I get the scan. Maybe i will live that long.

If yr psa is going up that quickly then you probably have an infection. Psa increase due to cancer is very slow and would take years to get to the level you've mentioned.

I'm 71, with two tumours left side: Gleason 7(4+3) and Gleason 8. I need to decide between SBRT +18 months ADT (negotiable) or RRAP. The surgeon says right side nerve sparing is possible, left side not. The RRAP plan would be to do a pathology review six weeks after surgery, to see if the margins were positive,. If so, I get adjuvant radiation. Up here in Montreal, my only PMSA PET scan option (short of spending $3500, uninsured) is a 50/50 trial. If I get the scan, I'll have the result before primary treatment, which will hopefully fine tune my treatment plan. Do you have advice? Love the videos. Thanks :-)

Great video. What I want to know is how can BCBS deny coverage for my psma pet scan on the ground that it is not medically necessary? Seems absolutely ridiculous to me. Bad faith? 72 year old fecently diagnosed 4+3=7 with mri showing tumor involving nearly entire gland and PSA 17. Should I appeal the denial?

PSMA WAS approved in March 2022. I have been waiting since last November. I finally got the test and was approved only to be told the FDA hasn't assigned a billing code yet. So, for the last 2 months I haven't had any treatment for my Stage IV cancer. Now I'm to start radium 223 Xofigo. What is going on?

Are you talking about just the PSMA PET scan or the lutetium-177 treatment that is associated with it? Representatives at Lantheus and pylarify.com might be able to help find a scan that would be covered; they are pretty widespread around the country now. As for lutetium-177 (which I assume you are talking about since it was approved in 2022) Novartis halted production because of issues, but it is expected to return around July, but we do not know about availability once it returns.
