We cut Lavender's nails today. She was ready right away to forgive my son. He got licks and cuddles. She is still upset with me and 5 hours later will still not even accept a treat she just chins it then flicks her feet as she runs away from me. I love a bunn who is a bit sassy, to me it means she is comfortable being herself.

Guess what?! I found a place that will spay Rukia! Time to try and find my pokemon cards. I know someone who can put them on online auction for me. I can use them to get money for spaying and for christmas! and pro tip, if you have trouble with self restraint when it comes to saving money, try using a CD account. You can't access it for a certain amount of time, after which the money and interest is put in your main bank account or put into another CD. its useful for large once in a blue moon expenses like getting a new pet fixed or saving to have an epic christmas.

My bunny had GI stasis... so I had to burrito wrap and syringe feed critical care every few hours... he did not like it at all! He was so resistive... but 1 morning as he was improving I woke up to his little face next to mine...not sure how long he was there. I petted him for ages and it felt like he understood that I was trying to help him and that despite the ordeal he was letting me know he still loved me. ❤

My lionhead Mufasa was 12 when he passed, such a spoiled old brat.. he counted his sweet potato wedges in his morning salad.. I had asked my nephew to hand him his food that day as one of my others was sick and needing hand feeding.. Mufasa went so far as to slide the latch on the baby gate and hunt me down to file his complaint with the manager personally... To this day 2yrs after he's been gone we still laugh about that day.. Mu at my feet grunting and thumping and my nephew shocked "omg he can count?" When I asked what he did? / well did u give him 4pcs? All that over being short 1 wedge..for shame Mufasa 😂🤣

This was an interesting topic, mostly because my rabbit doesn’t usually “apologize” but I’m usually the one needing too. My bunny isn’t a snuggly one, but sometimes he gives me openings to pet or hold. I actually got nipped today, because I misread a signal and picked him up. When I put him down he looked back as if he was waiting to see if I was going to approach him. I even started signing “all done” when I’m not going to touch anymore, and he calms down. In his own way, I know he understands, that I just want to give him affection, so when we first met he would bite me so hard, I still have scars, now his nips are light. It’s as if he is saying, “I don’t actually want to hurt you, but I’m overstimulated so I’m going to give a warning so I can get space”

Rabbits are INCREDIBLY intelligent and emotional beings. I have had Caspian for a year in February and I love him so much. I rescued him and at first he was very skittish, and we awkwardly learned to live with each other at first. I would spend a lot of time on the ground, talking to him softly and giving him treats. Now when I take him to bunny meet up, he hears my voice and runs to me saying "TAKE ME HOME!" I think Caspian likes chilling at the house. I think I am going to try and find him a girlfriend (he is fixed) so he can have someone to talk in rabbit with. My girlfriend and I also adopted another rabbit that lives with her (long distance relationship but it works.) Her name is Zombuny. My girlfriend was frustrated one day and she kind of gave the rabbit the cold shoulder for a few hours because Zombuny had done something, I think she chewed something. I saw Zombuny come in, and stand in front of my girlfriend. SHE THEN LOWERED HER HEAD and I instantly recognized she was saying sorry. My girlfriend didn't understand and Zombuny sulked off. I then followed Zombuny and noticed she was in loaf position (which she never uses that position, she prefers the superman). She had her ears back and her eyes looked half shut. I called my girlfriend over and I told her that Zombuny had apologized. My girlfriend picked up Zombuny and has never stopped giving her non-stop love to this very day, even if Zombuny chews something :)

The point you made is EXTREMELY important for people to understand, myself included - and especially for children. The fact that certain behaviors are simply completely different than we would expect ( both coming from them and from us ) thus invalidating what we believe would make them learn ( such as punishing them ) is something that is not intuitive for us but really has to be said. On one hand, it saddens me that we have been having bunnies as pets for a very long time without having material like this to help us learn, thus letting people mistreat or even be cruel to them due to lack of education, but on the other hand, people exactly like you, finally bring something like this to the table. I am sure that if I would have adopted a bunny before the internet and without you, I would have treated them much worse than I will hopefully do in the future when I adopt one, being prepared and well informed. Thank you Lorelei, in my opinion people like you are heroes. My apologies for the long text, I don't know how else to express this.

I have a typical parent's "you're being naughty" tone that I say our bun's name in when he's chewing on something he shouldn't 😂 I originally would thump my foot when he was doing something I didn't want him to, and eventually he's learned to associate it with the tone. I say his name in the tone, and he immediately stops 😂 He's actually stopped chewing some of the things I constantly use the tone with when he's doing it! He's so smart 💜 I always reward him when he listens to me, too. If he's chewing on something he shouldn't and I use "the tone" and he stops, I immediately give him something he can chew on in case he was feeling the need to chew. I've often realized that he chews things he normally doesn't when he either A) needs something new to chew on, or B) he's trying to clear a path the best way he knows how. B is super easy to help with, and if I slightly move whatever he was going after he'll often be satisfied and leave it alone. Sometimes they just have a plan and they need help finding a middle ground that pleases both of us! 💜

I usually let Nina Bo Nina do her own thing & there's only two rooms she isn't allowed in. But she hates the vet. As soon as she sees her carrier. She hides under the couch & stomps nonstop. & I literally have to go back & forth around the couch or the coffee tables until I can pick her up & put her in the carrier & she fights me every step of the way. & it brings me to tears everytime. Plz tell me this will get better. Because I feel like I am always stressing her out..
@cindychapman5900
@cindychapman5900 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is hard because I think our bunnies have a feeling about it even before seeing the carrier. Can you use something to. block off the couch and the coffee table a few hours before you plan to go? She is fighting hard because she is already terrified after you chase her. Can you put down some veggies she likes and pet her before you pick her up? Can you have a t😮owel close by to throw over her and wrap her up with her head out and then carry her to the carrier? Our buns have gotten better over time. The most important step is to find a way to stop chasing her and to not let her see the carrier early. Putting her in back to front may help too but be sure you block her from pushing her was back out as you close the carrier door.

I leave the carrier out all the time with the door open and soft towels inside. My bun likes to hop on top of it and in it. You could put treats in it occasionally. Our Dutch also has figured out a towel is an enemy if she sees it coming too soon. After several years, she has mostly calmed down. I go in there often unprepared and have to pet her for a long time until she lets her guard down. Mine had a way of telling me he didn't like his sides being touched. Back when I didn't know this, he lightly bit my hand, then licked it immediately after. If I did the same thing again, he repeated it. It was like saying, "I don't like that, but I don't mean to disrespect you." Since then, I only touched his sides when moving him (to support his front legs and rear when picking up, not to hold by the stomach) or by accident during play. He stopped bite-licking once it'd become clear that I understood and side-touches were justified. It didn't seem to annoy him years later, probably because that was one way to get him to turn his head for part of a treat if he forgot to take with him into a cardboard box since I'd already rung the bell, but if I randomly touched his side or hind leg, he would lower his ears and nose, turning his head slightly in that direction while still facing forward to show he didn't like that, but trusted I'd stop soon.

Rabbits are not generally malicious, and most of the time they do something to displease you it is as a side effect of indulging their curiosity or sense of independence. I have seen a rabbit do something they know they aren't allowed to do specifically for the sake of getting attention. My rabbit has learned I don't want her poking around the entertainment center (too many wires that a curious bun might destroy and/or get hurt by). But if I'm in front of the TV and she wants my attention (usually concerning food), she will hop into the entertainment center and look right at me. Sort of a, "Hey, dad, look where I am!" She isn't even trying to threaten my stuff, she just knows it draws my attention. Not long back she started chewing on something I had negligently left in her reach. I was too tired to move it, but managed to shoo her away from it a couple times. The last time she went to nibble on it, I looked right at here and sternly said, "Cola, you do that one more time and I'm picking you up." Now, Cola hates being picked up. It's probably my only real "complaint" about her, I wish she was receptive to being picked up and cuddled. I don't know if it was my tone of voice, or if she understood my intent (because it was not a bluff), but she backed off from it and hasn't gone near it again. And, as I often say, while rabbits aren't particularly smart, they *are* fast learners. They likely don't understand most of what we say and do, but they figure out patterns and how to exploit them to their advantage quickly. If you have a regular routine, they will learn it and anticipate it. If you feed them at 6:30 AM every day as you are getting ready for work, I promise you, at 6:29:51 AM they are anticipating that food... Speaking of which, clocks move backward tomorrow in the US, anticipate grumpy/puzzled buns as they wonder why everything is an hour late.

Yeah she did. My rabbid bowed her head and it was different from when she asks me to pet her. So i knew a little about how rabbits say sorry so i went up to her and we touched heads.

When bun does something 'illegal' in this house I always calmly ask 'hey, why?' He then stops, but is doing the same time 10 minutes later, so I thump in a way that he sees me doing it, I tell him that I'm not talking with him today, and after 20 minutes I get kisses and cuddles. Working out what will work in certain situation is hard, but it's the most important think in amimal ownership

This was great Lorelei! It's so important that people know how to understand rabbits and not punish them severely when they do stuff that upsets us somehow. Rabbits are so misunderstood and so emotionally intelligent. Snuggles takes things we do sooooooo personally. If the furniture is moved he gets traumatized or if we shut a door to keep the main room warm he seems to take it personally that he's locked out and it's not that at all. We all need to be so mindful of what we are doing that could cause a negative outcome. Sometimes they do stuff because they are upset or getting sick. There is usually a reason why. Snuggles was messing outside his litter box so we changed the litter box - it's now much bigger and has an open top so he can see all around him so he doesn't worry and jump out as much before he's finished his business. He's much more relaxed and we have put a bathroom memory foam mat in front of it so if there's the odd accident it doesn't matter. I've also discovered if he does make a mistake not to get angry and upset at him because that made him more stressed and upset and made the problem worse so he'd wet everywhere because he was so upset! Now if he has an oops we reassure him with lots of kisses and cuddles and just quickly clean it up. It calms him down and unless he's getting sick that's the end of the problem. I think a lot of bunnies can be Unusually destructive because some owners actually bunny proof the rabbit out of their space!!!! You can see that the poor bunny is emotionally upset because they are so social and want to be close and included. Thank you and God bless you Lorelei for this video!! I really hope it makes people think about their role to play in why bunnies do what they do and how to be more understanding of these beautiful little creatures. They really don't mean to be naughty and they are always seeking affection and giving so much love licks and nudges trying to be close loved and accepted by us humans.

I think you've covered all of this material in your many videos- anyway, I have been following this advice for dealing with bunny behaviors for a while, and it really does work! Behave like a bunny where needed, and your bun will definitely respond! Thanks so much for your videos - I would never have survived my first rescue bun without you, and you're still helping me now that I'm on my second rescue bun!

Once, I accidentally left my rabbit's cage unlocked by accident. He was gone when I came to do my round in the evening. I spent about two hours looking for him with no trace (outdoor rabbit). I had finally given up, crying on the floor in my backyard. Then, I suddenly hear something on the grass approaching me. It was him...He sat before me, and I could tell he noticed I was sad. Funny how he ignored me calling out his name, but once he heard my cry, he thought it was enough torture. He jumped into my lap. Told him to never do that again. He licked me, and we touched heads, which I will take as his sorry.

when i was giving my bunny his meds after being neutered he nipped me on the arm very lightly (the only other time he had ever done this was when i trimmed his nails and squeezed to hard) both times he immediately stopped struggling, let me do what i needed and gave me loads of kisses after. he was definitely apologizing

My girl has been so well behaved once free roaming. She always apologizes if she messes up (say Chews a base board instead of playing with her toy or doing her forage activity) but she is normally such an fun little angel. Spending time with her is the best.

Hi Lennon and Lorelei! I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how grateful I am for your channel and the both of you. As soon as I got my bunny I took to KZbin for tips and found you guys. I’m just so grateful for your tips because it’s helping me give my bun the life he deserves from the very beginning. His name is Luna (we thought he was a girl, kinda opposite of Lennon hehe) and he is almost 3 months old. We got him in a big exercise pen and let him out for monitored free roam time a few hours a day until he gets neutered and fully potty trained. The binkies earlier were wild lol. Anyways, just thank you for everything. Much love!

The first time I cut my dwarf rabbit’s nails she got scared and bit my hand and escaped. I was shocked and the bite hurt quite a bit so I started crying. Instead of running off and hiding (as I would’ve expected … I just scared her after all!) my bunny stopped in her tracks and sat right in front of me. She stared at me and I knew there and then she was sorry. It’s eight years later and she hasn’t me bitten again since. And she’s a feisty! But she only ever punches with her tiny claws now when she’s grumpy. 😂 it’s so cute and it tells me she’s unhappy without hurting me. Since having her in my life, I know for a fact that animals no matter how small have emotional and mental capacities far beyond what people give them credit for.
