Well no, they have never been really ahead of their times. Just if you see the 90s as Nirvana and Oasis (and 90s were much more). Their music is cacophonous pop rock that keeps up with the tecnological innovations and arrangements, often already experimented by others and not really so experimental like you might think. They have always been just in their times, not ahead. They were not the Slints, they were a britpop band that saw what others were doing (looking at the krautorck) and followed the path. And doing that they didn't even invent a new genre, they're just cacophonous britpop/altrock. They just showed a new trend to follow to masses bored by grunge and britpop.

@@nickn2794 dude You nailed it, this is exactly it, radiohead is incredibly overrated. Its a good band, but overrated. The fans are ridiculous if they say they revolutionized music because until age 20 I didnt listen to any track besides creep by them. They werent that popular, or revolutionary. Experimental? Yes.

Well, I think more and more bands who incorporate lots of different styles in their music and/or play different styles, have been getting more and more popular because of Radiohead. I am still amazed how a band like Radiohead is super famous though considering what is famous on the radio these days and they are one of the few artists today that are super famous that I like. I do know fame is not "everything" for me and lots of people though as musicians.

I'm from China, being a fan of Radiohead for over 20 years. In 1998, I was one day at a friend's house, when I about to leave, he gave me this album called "Ok computer". He said: 'throw it away or take it away, just keep it from my sight.' I got curious and had to listen to it. After the first time I listened to the whole album. I felt lost, depressed and something like seasickness. I decided to throw it away as my friend told me to. Before I do that I was caught up in something so I just left it on my desk. However, for the rest of that week, this music just stuck in my head. So I listened again. and again, and again...before I knew it I got obsessed with it and radiohead became my favorite band of all time. To see a live show of them is on top of my bucket list.

Howdy from Texas, USA!...been a Radiohead fan since Pablo Honey, but I must say, OK COMPUTER is by far, my favorite.( KID A, my 2nd)...later on, my son, who is grown now, developed a liking of RADIOHEAD and we (he was in 11th grade, maybe 12th) went to a show in Austin. They played Paranoid Android for the encore....so awesome!...what a wonderful experience for a Mother and her Son...I truly hope you are able to check this off your list!

Hopefully Freddy you see them live. I am fortunate to have seen them live 5 times. It's like a religious experience. They are by far the best band I've ever seen. My first gig to see them was in Dublin in 1997. I've never heard anything like it since. My uncle who was a musician brought me as I was young and only getting into music. I was about 17 years old. He explained to me all about how they arranged their music and how good they were. He was always with me for their gigs. Sadly he passed away a few years ago and I put a copy of ok computer in his coffin. Only last week I played paranoid android for the first time in years and I've forgotten how good they are. My 11 year old son heard it for the first time and thought it was amazing and hasn't stopped playing it since. They are absolutely amazing band.

Radiohead albums are always ahead of their time. To explain why, I developed what I call the “Radiohead conjecture”. I buy the album and listen to it once, and invariably I’m not sure how to process it. A year later, I listen again, and invariably find it to be a timeless masterpiece.

During an interview in 1996 Thom Yorke was asked about his thoughts on the 1995 movie Clueless’s take on Radiohead, saying it was for crybabies. Yorke responded with saying that the character that says the line is one of many 2 dimensional characters, and the character that was listening to the song(fake plastic trees) is one of the few 3D characters. Afterwards he says “So the answer is: F*ck you! We’re for 3D people!”.

The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A are albums I can listen to frequently. The Bends especially is a more traditional recording, and I love it. OK Computer blew my mind when it was first released, and still continues to do so. Kid A was a slow burn for me - like the guy said, I didn't know what to make of it initially, wanting as I did "More OK Computer". Slowly the tracks wormed their way into my mind, and it kind of infected me, and now I love it, especially Idioteque, Kid A, How To Disappear Completely, and In Limbo. Their follow ups since have been albums I enjoy and respect, but I have to be in a certain frame of mind to listen to them, and are not really very easy listening experiences. That's part of what makes them so good, that they are dense and complex.

Whoooooaaaaaaa Mr. Beat does music too??? words can’t explain how awesome of a band Radiohead is. They took the spot as my #1 band. I love that every album is unique but always Radiohead they never lost who they were, they only grew, it should also be noted how relevant their music is in 2021. Right now I have ‘Amnesiac and ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ on repeat, I’m also really enjoying Thom Yorkes solo work, the ‘Suspiria’ soundtrack is 10/10 genius. Highest praise to this band for the marvelous work they’ve put out. Their ability to make you feel textures, their ability to make you feel different emotions is breathtaking. I love that I can listen to Radiohead whether I’m waking up or going to sleep, whether I’m happy or sad, or whether I’m feeling rock one day and electronic the next, they do it all.

I remember listening to "creep" for the first time in an alternative music club in West Palm Beach-FL. I loved it immediately. I bought Ok Computer right away after it came out. I listened and listened to that record over and over. Before Ok Computer became the record of the year, I already knew it was fantastic. Incredibly they are still making great music. I hope that they will be around for a long long time.

paranoid plane97 Yeah, because both of them have introduced, not created, a lot of genres/techniques for creating music. Radiohead also changed how we listen to music as well. I think their lyrics are honestly up there with The Beatles and Bob Dylan. It seems like they haven’t hit a major snag either.
@Zholobov1
@Zholobov1 5 жыл бұрын
@@paranoidplane9799 not really. The Beatles gave this world quite an amount of popular songs, but Radiohead are going in another direction. They explore the essence of Music itself, they are cosmically far ahead of any other band. They are smarter than The Beatles enough - not to have broken in freakin' seven recording years after a silly egoistic disagreement. They are as deep as Pink Floyd, but melodically and rhythmically are way much more talanted and skillful. And how many great albums does it need to be considered a classic group? Radiohead have done them. And the Story has just begun...

What a unique, amazing band. Lot of times I try to explain Radiohead to myself and I can't. I became a fan cause I kept hearing nothing but insane praise of them. At first I had to really listen, listen and get in a whole music mode. I was so glad I did because I really was spending so much time on my phone, playing video games and just went back to the old school way where I would have headphones on most of my free time and some of my busy time. I just see such a solid group of fans, just watching Reddit posts and watching new fans start to really get the band. There is not even a band in the same atmosphere as Radiohead. By that I don't mean they are so much better, but they just are so unique and they just stay consistent and just are always fresh. Just imagine a bottle of milk in your fridge, every time you drink it or use it, you go back and the bottle is super fresh, new expiration date, and full to the top. That is them.

Bravo, Matt Beat! I agree. Radiohead, though anomalous, fits alongside the classic greats (Beatles/Floyd/Zep) and alt.rock greats of the 80s & 90s and even supersedes them as the point of critically acclaimed rock. There is never a commercial compromise with these guys and they always keep you guessing, questioning and opening your mind. I hear the influence in bands of today like Muse

11:13 my cousin won tickets to see this show, she is the biggest Radiohead fan. When this tragedy occured, she was disappointed...but not for very long, considering The Flaming Lips were giving a free show that night. She did eventually see Radiohead when they came back to Toronto in 2017; the band gave a minutes silence for the deceased.
