Here’s a cool fact from the rescue. At one of the crash sites, while under intense fire from all directions and still in the process of freeing the body of one of the pilots, a wounded and understandably panicked sergeant entered one of the APC’s sent to rescue them and demanded that they leave immediately. The Malaysian APC driver, knowing most of the Americans were still outside, simply responded in broken English with: “No, no. We stay” What a line.

A bit more details about the rescue since a lot of people overlooked this: It was headed by the 10th Mountain Division, technically, but what they lacked it armor, having on Humvees. The only forces nearby who had armor the Pakistanis and Malaysians. The Malaysians had Condor APCs, four wheeled, German-made armored cars, while the Pakistani had old M48 and M60 tanks for fire support. There was a fight going on with the higher ups since 10th Mountain just wanted to commandeer the Malaysian APCs. However, the Malaysian Army 19th Batallion, Mechanized, had battlefield experience of their own and extremely competent soldiers at this point, objected. They eventually reached a compromise where the combat teams dismount and leave only the vehicle crews and the 10th Mountain. The Pakistanis soon pulled out of the battle due to the lack of night vision equipment, making it hazardous for them to fight. The Malaysians and the 10th Mountain pushed on. It should be mentioned that the Malaysians were the UN QRF for the area, so the Malaysian brass was royally pissed when the US didn't even tell them about an op going on, only finding out after the first Black Hawk was shot down. To see this other side of Operation Gothic Serpent, MALBATT Misi Bakara is a dramatized retelling of the events (it's on Netflix).

I still feel the same today, but we still keep throwing tax dollars and bodies into fights that aren't ours. Those were the UN, not strategic base like the US.

Another huge error with this vid is that he says "US and NATO forces" which is incorrect, they were UN forces, and also the night vision 'footage' of the incident is not from Somalia 1993, camera quality is far too good and they all have M4s so unless all in that shot are delta (which is unlikely) the footage is not from this event

It’s always a good day when popo releases a new gem that’s displays what a man/men do when they have a mission.

That's the big difference between the USA and China and Russia, whoever. We don't leave our men or women purposely behind like cowards. We're willing to die for each other, not for terror or power. That's what makes us great. Honorable. Rip to the operators who lost their lives that day, and the civilians who needlessly starved.

One of my drill sergeants in basic training was a part of 10th Mountain QRF that responded. My first duty station was ft Polk, and the urban/city training area is named after Shughart and Gordon. Incredibly bravery. RIP

By taking back Mogadishu, you mean getting their asses handed to them by an underestimated force and having to run for their lives out the hot zone?
