One thing I never hear mentioned in any of these docs is that the Somalis were so effective during this fight, Operation Gothic Serpent, because Bin Laden had provided the Somalis with proximity sensors for their RPGs. So, instead of having to actually hit the Blackhawk, they just needed to get close. It made a huge difference in their effectiveness and was what led to the two birds being shot down. Idk why no one ever mentions that. Its pretty important.

As a Somali, I could tell you that the American mission in Somalia was unsuccessful and could be the biggest loss they have endured in the late nineties. This massive defeat exposed their weakness in close combat even after amassing better technological advancement in weaponry. You’re clearly just an uneducated Somali, I’ll educate you. We had 25,000 soldiers deployed to Somalia in 1992 24 US soldiers were KIA, 70 were wounded, again that is out of 25,000 total deployed troops. Over 500 Somalis died and over 1000 were wounded. What was that about “losing” again? One death is to many, but don’t go around running your mouth on KZbin about things you CLEARLY know absolutely nothing about. 😂

Fun fact. Aidids own son was part of the Marine Corps contingent that initially arrived in the area. That “One Injured Private” was Todd Blackburn. He somehow lost grip on the fast rope and fell. The US was defeated though
@ultrajd
@ultrajd 2 ай бұрын
@@SomaIipirate technically no. If you mean by the fact that we lost a number of servicemen on that mission then by that logic, the Normandy Beach landings were a greatest defeat in military history. They went in. They got the people they were after and they got the prisoners back to base. yes they took casualties. Yes, things didn’t go the way they wanted. But in the overall mission of that day or days, I guess you could say the overall objective was. Also, you have to remember that the US wasn’t even there really for anything like what a lot of people may think. The United States was there predominantly to provide security for the United Nations and Red Cross organizations. The reason the US left was not because of this event. The US left because DC lost the stomach. Which is actually kind of hilarious when you consider the fact that the whole operation was being undertaken by the orders of Washington DC because they were growing impatient. Not only that, but during the operation they originally wanted to have some light armored vehicles come with them as well as the potential for a, specter gunship overhead. But again Washington DC in all of its wisdom said that this would have made the operation “too high profile” Which is why the overhead cover was undertaken with the Blackhawks and little birds.

Special thanks for the great work as a response rescue from team group under pbb *Malaysian army and another group for successful tasks Rescue Team members from the USA military consist of rangers and others!! It is very important to give the real story that their bodies are indeed a bit small compared to the US army, but it is not necessary to argue that the bravery of Malaysian soldiers is very high and salute for the task

I just came back from visiting the US last month and one of the stops I always make is visiting the destroyed main rotor blades of Super 61. After all of these years I still do not know why the US went into Somalia with such limited forces.
@G-man-survival
@G-man-survival Ай бұрын
“Limited forces” you mean 25,000 soldiers. 24 total killed. 70 total wounded. The US was there to grab and extract a war lord, stop the Somalis from blowing up and shooting their own people, distributing food/water etc. America is a world super power and conducts itself that way.

The two snipers were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor the continually asked to go down and protect the survivors but were denied on multiple occasions. It's a pity this video fails to mention their names 18:42 At the second crash site, two Delta snipers, Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart, were inserted by Black Hawk Super 62. Their first two requests to be inserted were denied, but a third request was approved after the QRF troops were ambushed.

The Clinton administration refused to allow assets like the ac-130 or armored vehicles because they didn't want to appear too militarized and aggressive. That's why the only air support available were the 160th birds that had miniguns and rockets. I believe eventually marine cobras showed up, but that's why they had to lean on the Pakistanis for the rescue operation. Those assets weren't allowed in country. If I recall the task forsk commander had asked for an ac-130 and bradleys, but was denied.
