Grange later became a policy salesman for State Farm. He visited my family's farm near Springfield, twice-per-year mostly to visit with my great-aunt, who was an English Professor at Illinois & she had started the Student-Athlete Tutor Program at Illinois.

Yost retired for the 1924 season. George Little was coaching the team that day, with Yost watching from the stands. Yost unretired for the 1925 season and retired again after the 1926 season but continued as athletic director until 1940.

I really enjoy your videos about college football history, and legends like Red Grange, that shaped the sport in to what it is today. Do you have a series that focus’s on rules and changes to them. I’ve seen your forward pass videos. How about a video or a series videos on goal posts and field goals? When were posts moved to the back of the end zone? When did they switch to the Y style posts from the H style posts. Three universities still use H style posts. The post used to be much wider than they are in the modern game. When I was child, missed field goals resulted in a touch back at the 20, even if kicked far out side the red zone. So that a missed field goal from a scrimmage line of the 45 was just as good as a 25 yard punt. When did that change. And Why? Anyway a series about rule changes like that would be interesting. Other ideas;when was the two point conversion implemented as in idea to prevent ties. When were kick off tees first used? How about a series on end zone painting and decoration? Seems to me that coincided with the advent of color television. Just some ideas. Keep up the good work. BTW my uncle used to teach at Nebraska. So I like cornhuskers a bit.

I have the foundation series about early football and rules changes. They were the first I did, so they're rather cringy. I will put your other idea about goal posts into my list.
@BigLewBBQ2 ай бұрын
@@CollegeFootballHistory Yes I watched those. I didn’t think they were cringy. Actually I liked the narration, I just listened to some of them like a podcast while driving. I learned a lot from them, thanks.

Red Grange was the first superstar in the history of football. Because college football has always mattered. Pro football did not really matter to the general public until December 28, 1958. When the Baltimore Colts defeated the New York Giants in the first game in the history of football to go into overtime in front of a national audience.

History of trinkets? You mean like winning Floyd of Rosedale or the Little Brown Jug?

Friedman and Michigan outplayed him in 25. Grange joined the Bears in 25. Friedman had a somewhat prominent and in regards to the pro game a more lasting effect on the pro game. You might look it up!

@@jbj7599 There are newspaper articles from 1924 referencing him at the game and ripping into his players about not tackling Grange.

So 1924 was that one year that Yost is not listed as the head coach. I wonder if he was effectively the head coach that year? Perhaps Michigan made him give up the title to become athletic director.
@ericdailey85872 ай бұрын
He wanted to take the year off, but apparently hung around the team and was on the sidelines for the Illinois game giving the temporary head coach advice.

If Friedman had beenplaing as he should it might have been a very different. Why he wasn't is a story in itself. Also Yost had elected to delighted head coaching that year so he was not coaching. Your Report is very innacurate in that respect. According to Friedman when asked years later he was not in the game " Because my name was Friedman". Yost took over a week later and Friedman was playing.
@ericdailey85872 ай бұрын
According to Chris Willis who authored a book on Grange, Yost was present for the 1924 Illinois game. Though he took the year "off" he still hung around the team and was on the sideline to give the temporary head coach advice.
